hi everyone from sunny Seoul I recently gained a lot of new followers so I thought I’d introduce myself hi I’m Sol a Korean-Australian living in Seoul, Korea I grew up mostly in Australia but worked in Tokyo for the last 4 years I moved to Seoul at the start of this year and share my travels and daily life on this channel so if you haven’t already, please follow along for my new adventures :) since moving to Korea I realised I don’t know many areas in Seoul so I thought I’d take you guys along to explore some of Seoul’s neighbourhoods the sky looks so nice today today we’re exploring the area of Jongno starting off at Seoul City Wall it’s right next to Dongdaemun I didn’t know this place existed looks so dreamy it’s still so hot but the autumn flowers are starting a well fed stray cat it is a little bit of a hike to the top it’s about a 15-20 minute walk the persimmons are also starting while I’m struggling this old man is casually walking up barefoot... but the view from the top is worth it this area is also line with really unique cafes and shops I wonder where that leads it’s already Christmas down here found this house that looks like it’s out of a kdrama in this village you can find streets lined with these murals you can also really get a feel of old Korea it’s an actual residential area so you do need to be mindful there are a bunch of cafes here as well with a great view you can even see Namsan tower think I could spend hours here exploring each alleyway this whole neighbourhood feels like you’ve slipped back in time definitely makes you feel a bit nostalgic the street is filled with cute shops, small bookstores and cafes it was fun finding all the art scattered around the village came across this cool viewpoint the walk down was even harder than the walk up I definitely recommend wearing proper shoes when you visit we’re visiting one more place in Jongno it’s about 15 minutes away from Dongdaemun and a 5 minute walk from the famous Ikseon dong cafe street this place has been trending recently in Korea it’s a lot less crowded Ikseon dong the walkway is lined with unique cafes, restaurants and workshops a lot of them have outdoor seating so you have the view of this stone wall I really needed a coffee at this point and this one had a nice rooftop sitting area they even sent me a little fan but the breeze was actually pretty cool outside just what I needed I also got a matcha cheese cake the crust was interestingly made out of red bean I think this is the bluest sky I’ve seen in Korea now let’s have a look around there’s so many cute cafe’s in this area I think it’s a good place to enjoy the local vibe I definitely want to come back to check out more of these cafes this was the most popular spot on the street seems to be a Mexican restaurant this area also has a lot of jewellery and craft shops there seems to a couple of fun workshops too lastly we’re checking out a craft beer bar they had so many options the bar is in a Korean traditional hanok house and the food here was good as well I’d come back just for this chicken the atmosphere was so cozy a lot of the cafes here open till pretty late at night would be nice to come and just read at night I think this area is still relatively quiet compared to other neighbourhoods I definitely recommend giving it a visit if you’re in Seoul we’re checking out another neighbourhood today Haebangchon and Hannamdong are located in Yongsan district which is probably most well known for Itaewon you can get a pretty good view of Namsan tower in this area we’ll be visiting Haebangchon first this neighbourhood is located on a hill so you can get a great view of the city the entry to the market I want to check out is kind of hard to find took me a good 10 minutes to find it time for a coffee I wanted to try their special magic latte the cafe had this cool spiral staircase it was also giving me plant envy for the magic latte the barista makes the coffee right in front of you so that you can get the smoothest first sip apparently this is a coffee from Melbourne the coffee was really good now let’s have a look around the market a lot of the restaurants here sell food from different cultures I found this cute puppy map it’s a map of all the dogs that live in this area it comes with a matching photo and introduction the drawings are done so well this cafe looks like the door to Narnia there were also a few secondhand stores in the area also found this candle and diffuser store love a good ocean scent time for some lunch the restaurant also had a nice view I got the Pakapau (Thai basil stir fry) I think this is one of the best Thai places in Seoul there are also a lot of shops right outside the market love small bookstores like this you can find various independent publishing books from Korea most of them are in Korean but you can get some interesting finds they also had some art pieces next we’re headed to Hannam which is about 15 mins away going to kill some time here before dinner this area is great if you want to do some shopping all the autumn clothes are already coming out you can find some good basics here been looking for a new bag this place had a good mix of interior goods and clothes I still had some time left so going to check out this music library you can use this LP library for free if you download the app I liked how they had a tablet to help you find all the LPs they had a really good selection of music there’s a 30min time limit which is just enough if you want to kill some time the back streets are also filled with popular local brands I’m back in Haebangchon for dinner this this is one of the best places to see the sunset this restaurant is meant to have a nice rooftop view you get the view of the whole city timed it perfectly for the sunset and the weathers just getting cool enough to sit outside my favourite time of day the sunsets in summer are so vibrant the night view is quite nice as well time for a after dinner walk this area has so many restaurants and bars I want to try found this grocery selling all kinds of imported food here you can see the famous view from Itaewon class I think this is one of my favourite neighbourhoods to visit here you can find all the trendy cafes, local shops and popup stores we’re starting off in from Seoul forest station found this cute shop selling all things crochet everything is so cute I think these would be a fun souvenir to get people let’s go get some coffee the bakery here had a really good selection since this area has a huge park it’s also very pet friendly I got a ice latte and raspberry cream scone the main street has a lot of interesting shops the alleyways also have some unique cafes and restaurants this is another cafe I like I think Korea is a great place to get high quality bags and they have some interesting designs as well as simple ones the prices are also really reasonable this sunglass brand has also been really popular recently they have the same manufacturer as Gentle monster so they are really high quality for the price range I needed another coffee and I had this cafe saved on my list the basement of the cafe had this huge waterfall projection there are so many interesting themed cafes in Seoul next we’re headed to Seongsu which is called the Brooklyn of Seoul and is only a 20 min walk from Seoul Forest (or 5 mins by train) again you can find a lot of trendy Korean brands here this is a popular fragrance shop they’re most famous for these hand creams this is my favourite scent this one is also really nice another fun store to visit if you like incense this makeup brand has been super popular in Korea especially these blushes the texture is really interesting the main store also does a lot of events you can find some some nice silver jewellery here this is a trendy stationary shop catered for adults the tote bags were cute as well I wanted to try this hot pot rice I got the steak hotpot you first mix up the rice and add hot water to it and at the end you can enjoy this rice soup hope you guys enjoyed this tour there are so many more cool neighbourhoods in Seoul let me know if you want a part 2! see you in the next video!
