It's okay It's okay Hello It's the first dog Good morning Internet! It is 7:10 in the morning and welcome back to the channel Welcome here, in my Airbnb in Quito Today is going to be the first ride. You can imagine my excitement I am super eager to hit the road The route that I planned for today, it's mostly going to be off-road I am pretty sure. I have no idea about the condition of the road of course There has been quite some rainfall recently so maybe it's really bad Maybe it's just gravel, I have absolutely no idea So I decided to not go too far on the first ride and just kind of Get to know how the bike feels and go on the first like off- road track of this new season That's basically the plan so I'll show you on the map where I'm planning to go today So I got a new map. This is not entirely Ecuador So it continues a little bit at the bottom but that's on the back side of the map But here at the top, that's the border with Colombia over there And that's the border with Peru And I am now here in the capital in Quito And today, I am riding to Mindo Valley which is over here And I'm going to take a small back road which runs all the way here So this is the main road, I am pretty sure that will be paved But I'm going to go straight through the mountains here and ride to Mindo over here So the first challenge of today is going to be.. to get Alaska out of this building The owners let me park inside which was super nice because parking outside on the street here, really wasn't an option So they let me park Alaska downstairs But it was not easy to get her there and now I have to try to get her out of there Unfortunately as it turns out there are some.. how does this work? Protests against the government happening in Quito
At the moment And so the police and the military police and I don't know, I saw some heavy armed guys With dogs and everything They locked down the historical city center of Quito So unfortunately I can't walk around there But.. from the bedroom of my Airbnb, there is this little.. terrace I can go on To show you just a tiny bit of Quito, not much but more than nothing Look at this amazing view See.. you see down there, they put all these gates so people can't enter the city center from that side So there's loads of people waiting there Maybe they'll let some people in, I'm not to sure but I thought probably not the best idea to mingle between protestors See the street is locked on that side as well And.. nah I think on this side it's open There she is Hello! Good morning! Wow, beautiful! I couldn't do it! I couldn't.. Could I take a photo as a souvenir? - Yes, of course For my son, he will love it.. my little one

I can tell, I am not fully acclimatised yet, I am out of breath so quickly Like walking up one stair, or pushing the bike around a little bit and I'm immediately oehh But I am sure it will get better I really quite like Quito as a capital It's really beautiful And this city was founded by the Spanish In.. what did read? 1554, I think But it was built on an existing Inca city So there was already an Inca settlement here and when the Spanish took over They built Quito here Still relatively quiet in the city now Which is kind of nice 'Cause it can get pretty hectic up here Oh, I missed my turn But no matter how much I like this city, my first idea is pretty much.. get out of the city!
Let's get into the mountains All this traffic and yeah, I just want to show some Ecuadorian dirt to Alaska Loads and loads of motorbikes here They're all, usually quite small It's kind of fun to ride somewhere again, where there's like loads of people riding on motorbikes Slipping through traffic How is that bike still riding? That bike got a proper beating Oh Yes1 I needed that Good morning Super Good morning - Good morning Super, please Full - Sorry? Full? - Yes, full please Yes, thank you sir You see the price? So they have 92 and 87. Obviously, I am always choosing always, 92 or the best quality You see the price is three dollars and forty eight cents In the beginning I was thinking how is petrol so expensive here Three dollars fifty per liter But it's per gallon So, for some reason they displayed a gallon price and not a liter price I am now rapidly going up. Now at 2,895 Heading towards the mountains, this is really the outskirts, outskirts of Quito Wow! Oh, check out this view! Over the city I don't know how well you can see it, because it's partly in the clouds but All of that is Quito and it just goes on behind that hill all the way that way as well There we go I knew this road.. had to turn into dirt or gravel at some point Hey doggies Nice little pot holed road! Woo hoo! Oh, we are back Oh.. I find it hard to describe, how I'm feeling right now Other than just so happy, to be on the road Be in the mountains Being back in South America Oh.. it's just the best feeling Tandayapa Tandayapa, that's where I'm going It's extending now into a valley, I think Check out, the location of this house Amazing I saw a sign something about fishing, so I'm guessing those are ponds where you can fish in It said pesca deportiva or something Which I think means sports fishing What a place to live There's been a little bit of rain here Looks like Maybe it's just coming of the mountains here Woo hoo! Oh, this is awesome Awesome, awesome! It's okay It's okay Hello That's the first dog Some small town here Look at that, the sun is even coming out Amazing Where am I going? This way Wow Ho Look at that Amazing I've come through there and then I rode through the valley and now I'm climbing over this mountain here I'm very close to the top already This is just getting better and better Yes, Alaska shown them Wow! Oh my! The views are amazing Look at those mountains there. Let me see if I can..
Find a bit of clearing in the bush here I wonder if there is any big wildlife here, I know this area is super rich in birdlife But I don't know if there's any bigger animals lurking around here, actually Oh wow! That was a vulture Don't be afraid I have reached the paved road again So the last 8 kilometers to Mindo.. will be on this brand new tarmac By the looks of it I have arrived in Mindo What an absolute stunner of a location With that backdrop of those mountains with jungle.. wow Amazing Let's first find a place to stay for tonight Hostel Another hostel, Los Pajeros Ah, I think there are plenty of places to stay here Let me see Hello! Good! After, you can put it here - Okay Perfect Ah, how nice! - This one, this one or this one Ah, okay There are no other people here? - No, no, no - Ah, okay And how much is it? - 20 dollars it costs - 20 dollars Here.. the bathroom, and shower with hot water Okay There is wifi - Wifi is there? Okay I have got a place to stay. Alaska will be living down there
So now, I'm just going to walk into town and see if I get myself a lunch And just have a little look around. Before I do so the owner did tell me.. that he has some bananas up here And he is like, they are all yours They look absolutely amazing so..
Just gonna take.. think these ones look nice This one So I have found a restaurant and they just served me a drink which is based on quinoa It only has quinoa inside, or something else? It has quinoa, pineapple and tangerine and then eh.. *inaudible* Oh this is really, really good. I cannot describe the taste It's unlike, I have ever had before but it's super.. it tastes really fresh Like a juice And then it has a strong kind of a..
A strong flavour that I cannot really.. tell what it's like Oeh, I just got served another snack Ah, these look like platano Those type of bananas They turn them into some sort of chips, really nice Food has arrived, check this out. It looks absolutely amazing! If this isn't healthy food then I don't know what is So I'm just going to dive in and end this video right now So I really hope that you liked this first real episode back on the road.
