7 Channels You Should be Watching. [& why I disappeared]
hello you lot it's been a while so getting on three months ago now i let out a video not very well articulated basically explaining that um i wanted to take some time away by design that video was only supposed to be out for 24 hours because i knew it was going to cause more uh heat and interaction than i was willing to deal with at the time yeah i joined the height of the male strum going on in my brain that i just wanted to grab and stop but essentially guys i just took a bit of a tumble um things just got on top of me um so many people knowing absolutely everything about your life wanting to know more this wave of of interaction and messages over multiple platforms that you just can't get away from like the online world and the real world is so integrated now it gets a lot and fell down and needed to take some time off from posting to the big wide world and it also allowed me to realize that i just totally got sucked in by the youtube machine the constant pressure of you need to post regularly you need to be more clickbaity you need to add all these adverts more adverts more adverts you need to sell it's just churn out content basically and the whole love the whole everything that i loved about making videos and all that lot just slowly started to get stripped away and replaced by this narrative but during that time i've still had plenty of you messaging and asking what's going on when i'm coming back so what this video aims to do is cast a bit of a light on the fact that all of you from the vast majority of decent people that enjoy the content they watch and stick with certain creators right down to the balance that just like to piss and moan about everything is that there is an almost infinite amount of creators out there creating content very similar to what you currently enjoy and that you miss them because of your viewing habits or the algorithms just don't show you them i want to show you seven channels that really should be explored more channels that have blown me away by their production their storytelling their personality and their journeys and why i'm baffled why they're not bigger than they already are i could show you so so many more and in the future i might but for now here is seven van life off-grid and alternate living channels that you really should be watching jake and his journey mate was brought to my attention last year when we met a band gathering instantly i enjoyed his company his energetic personality and his ability to click straight into the group and make everyone laugh and smile jake was a soldier in the british army but after serving seven years he's recently got out and has now begun his adventures into van life he started out in a ford transit connect micro camper that he confirmed which gave him a taste while serving but now that he's free he's upgraded to a peugeot boxer that he's building whilst living in the old soldier to nomad coming out and that transition um and also especially not going into just normal life as well into the nine to five it's like sorting your head out or coming from such a a mental institution and then being just chucked into flipping hippie life man his videos now follow along with his re-entry into civilian life and the ups and downs of such a drastic and unique change of pace his van build all manner of outdoorsy goodness the odd adventure thrown in that are always great to watch and of course throughout he's always cooking up some form of awesome van scram a little bit of sauce a little bit of avocado a little bit of bacon a little bit of whole grain wrappage and man he's all over that little bit of love and tenderness jake's video style and editing is seriously impressive and encapsulates his personality and gravitating cheekiness in them providing a more modern faster paced vlog and some serious laugh out loud moments make sure you drink all this sort of good stuff because i need it because i'm literally a grown child and i'll forget to drink and then i get grumpy and then no one wants to be around me all while still being real and relatable i can see big things for this channel and look forward to keeping up with jake's journey mate and i definitely think that you guys should too on to the next adventure it's been a pleasure what love gangsters i'll see you next week from rooster road trip is the story of lucy and ben their incredible little ldv that could and continues to see some places way out there that it really wasn't designed to go to as well as their newest addition their project bedford cf camper conversion what i enjoy most about ben and lucy and what they bring to their videos is their passion for traveling to places that most just wouldn't dare much like myself they won't shy away from pushing their van to the limits to tackle perilous roads and dirt tracks all in the aim of exploration and adventure i really want to go home the road is not good it's usually the place for the falcons it's not whether you're allowed to drive the road it's when you can drive the road these guys have an extensive list of countries traveled under their belt 28 to be precise but judging from their videos they seem to have a soft spot for eastern europe and the balkans we are in the flushkagora national park in the north of serbia just outside of navisad and have managed to cast a beautiful light on places that most wouldn't think twice about which has definitely inspired me to add some of those to my list they're huge fans of hot springs so we'll always make a beeline for a dip and i've had some wonderful encounters with the locals of where they are that so often come with traveling the world from watching them on and off for a while now i've been massively impressed with how their videos have come on leaps and bounds knowing the extra time and what it takes to get some of these shots that they get makes it all the more jaw dropping their level of detail and storytelling makes for some great watching that you feel a part of their travels and ldv itself almost came to an end when an mot inspection basically condemned the poor van completely complete the mot you just said no you know what guys this is it's just it's just too far gone this will never be on the road again as this was a similar time to when my van decided it was ready to die i shared this helpless feeling of loss of our mechanical counterparts but at the last minute in the most incredible turn of events that's usually reserved just for movies xavier came all the way from japan requesting them to become hosts of a hot springs tv show stating that the ldv really needs to be a part of the show and they sent the funds to start the extensive life-saving repair work and let the van see the road once again a truly amazing story that you can hear much more in detail on their channel as well as the bedford restoration series and what they plan to embark on next going over now to something close to my current standing a couple that makes me feel a total off-grid noob luke a chef by trade and sarah an early childhood educator have shared a passion for travel like many of the channels here touring through asia australia new zealand and america they've done the graft within a food truck business from their home country in malta but this brought money and not happiness this is when they stumbled across you guessed it portugal however these two found this gem before it went mainstream and all these bloody youtubers started rocking up they arrived four years ago to check it out and never left i don't know what it is but meatball if you move out of the way people can you move people bait ball look one take two ticks on meatball i'll take them off for you in a second i don't know why i keep trying to film with the goats it's always a disaster i started watching these guys whilst i was over in portugal myself hunting for my land and constantly find myself dipping back in to see what they're up to and some awesome projects they also live out here off-grid on a 17 hectare plot that by the way is massive just reference you could fit our plot into theirs almost 41 times i got hooked by their energy constant smiles and mind-blowing work ethic their ability to do the things they do and make the things they make is a true inspiration and i myself have been inspired by many of their projects they got to grips with the land made massive headway built their infrastructure out of items they could get on their budget or could find that includes dismantling their entire caravan to make a chicken coop and eventually they started to pick up a camera and record their antics to bring to us in a wonderfully pleasant and feel-good manner that in turn would also bring in some money that would continue to do what they love to do new things in here too all driven by the need to save money and make our life more comfortable here and it's been such a huge learning experience and we absolutely love it they often throw caution to the wind and leave the health and safety behind favouring to get stuck in which is very much my style okay too many kilos as usual i'm all good and now seasoned off-gridders with four years under their bout they have created a playful paradise complete with an ever-growing animal family that is truly spectacular and a testament to their dedication and hard work i bumped into these two a few weeks back by chance at river beach had a lovely chat and weirdly got a bit fanboy on them as they've shown me so much of what is possible out here and can do the same for you too so get yourself over to luke and sarah's off-grid life and check them out when we bought this land i felt like we bought ourselves a huge present and now we're still unwrapping that present four years on and we have many many many more areas to discover now on to the newest channel of the bunch road viking joe only started his channel this year but it's already become a delight to watch being so new to video making he's not as polished as some of the channels here but you can see improvement in each and every video and considering he doesn't have a laptop and does all of his editing on his phone it's actually really impressive i don't have a laptop i don't have anything fancy i'm using a gopro six from like five years ago the most modern thing i got is the microphone on the top and a little light joe's also a full-time vanlifer living in his big red of aco daily and traveling up and down the uk as a mobile mechanic and he'll take you along giving you a refreshingly honest account of full-time van life in the uk and making a living on the road joe's a s** hot mechanic and seemingly mostly he's been working on old mercedes lately including mine joe played a part in getting amber back on the road helping me out and saving the day when i found yet more rust disclaimer though if you want him to do welding you need to provide the welder i mean the man lives in a van he can't carry a welder everywhere in many ways joe's videos remind me of myself when i first started i focused on the storytelling and having a laugh with it rather than the fancy edit in the music which when you boil things down all you really need is the story and he doesn't mind sliding into it i mean yeah drifting an ivico daily into the field probably wasn't on his plans well no but it worked he got me in here while i've been sat down there again joe is a friend of mine although weirdly having both grew up in coventry both having close friend circles similar interests and both going to the same bars and clubs in our youth it took until just last year for us to meet but with his beaming smile and ability to keep you hooked on a story it'd be hard not to instantly like him it's safe to say one of my first experiences of jogging dogging places and then i heard a male's voice go hello what are you doing i replied with i was like what do you want and he said can i come in and my response was maybe he was a bit savage right but i said no and if you come in this van i'm gonna you're gonna leave in pieces the lawyer said to her was sorry and then jumped into this car and then i heard it drive off so i can only assume he was looking for a fun time and he definitely didn't get one recently joe's had to go back to full-time work for the man but hopes to get to a stage where he can work from the road again get over to europe and see what all this fuss is about so if you enjoyed my early days and videos head over to road viking subscribe and watch another newcomers journey flourish but yeah i'll leave that one now and i'll see you guys next week hiya welcome back for those of you who don't know me my name's ivan i've been traveling the world since 2015. um this year i decided that i was gonna buy a motorhome and travel around europe let's see how this goes the next channel is possibly one of the most well-traveled people i've watched ivan of curbside travel retired from the world of finance after having us fill up the rat race he started with vw campers fixing them up going to shows and getting a flavor for it but soon wanted more so he sold his vw his house and all his belongings bought a plane ticket and never looked back it's i think it might be tuesday i don't know what the date is though i think it's may as well with no plan or time frame ivan has wandered through some of the best destinations this planet has to offer starting in copenhagen where he stepped out the airport had a cigarette thought bugger this is too cold so went straight back in on a plane to dubai once there he had another cigarette in 35 degree heat nah too hot straight back on a plane to sri lanka where he found it to be just right and his travels took off and that story sums up why i really enjoy watching ivan his videos take you through all kinds of incredible places around the world he brings you right into the places where he is filling the videos with info but also his brilliant dry humor little rock formations and caves to walk through look at that pretty amazing and here is a bloody great hole that i can't even see the bottom of don't fancy that he's been to some serious book bucket list locations including bali indonesia australia singapore malaysia thailand hong kong mexico usa canada i mean the list goes on the latter two particularly caught my eye as ivan often accomplished by his daughters encapsulated what it's like to travel through the states in a true american rv something i've always longed to do another night in the bush i like it in the bush actually honestly with 59 flights 33 countries and eight equators of crossings under his belt that's hard to say i feel meager in comparison as a traveller now back and having sat through covered like the rest of the planet and i had the fortune of our paths crossing down at stonehenge when lance took a [ __ ] outside his door we then had a very random night with some awesome welsh guys around the fire pit and the rest is history we still keep in touch to this day ivan bought a motorhome whilst back in the uk and has once again hit the road to explore europe and has currently gone as far as turkey if his instagram's anything to go by there is some seriously good content on his way so head over to curbside travel get stuck into the archives of ivan's travels and prep for the new stuff and i promise you won't be disappointed boats there's water sunshine *** lovely. we're those weirdos a family of seven nearly three years ago we gave up our conventional lives to live travel and work in our self-converted sprinter vern formerly known as those weirdos the wildlanders are on a very similar life path to myself having settled into portugal not a million miles from us and are now living off-grid and south sufficiently this is a fantastic van life and alternate living family channel consisting of dom missy their daughter rosie dog juan and cats more flio and bella starting out in their awesome bright yellow sprinter known as the sub they fell in love with travel and spent three years living and traveling on the road homeschooling rosie and like myself feel travel is hugely educational and beneficial for kids and the family should have much more freedom to do so so they also felt the draw to portugal like so many others these days and after three years in their van decided to head on over find a plot of land way out in the wild settle down and begin living south sufficiently growing their own food to live off sussing out what it takes to live off grid and inspiring others to detach from the rat race morning and welcome to today's video on the wildlands where we're slowly building our off-grid paradise in central portugal we've got four new ibc's a thousand liters each giving us 8 000 liters of ibc's on the land as emma and i were forced back to the uk during covid and sentenced to a year of limbo and van building or rebuilding dom and missy were just signing the d's to their land and it's truly awe-inspiring and what they've managed to achieve in just one year recently i've had the pleasure of meeting up with them all seeing their place in person and i've had my eyes open to what can be done plus a sense to get the finger out my ass as well as being entertained you feel you come away from their videos having learnt something and admittedly i've watched a good few of their videos as how-to guides i've never been in a well in my life it's interesting it's a bit scary really a genuinely lovely bunch of people and animals lance likes juan which says a lot and their videos are a wonderful insight into family van life and alternate living so as always thanks so much for watching and we'll see you next week and last but certainly not least is houseless not homeless uh what can i say about my i mean most people are already into van life probably already know who marty is honestly the first time meeting him i wasn't sure if we'd get on but very quickly i knew he was michael petty and that we shared a thirst for adventure even at our own vehicle slash homes detriment and this first meeting and getting to know this at the time stranger was followed up by me being overtaken down a field by marty's van without marty in it he just casually ghost rode his home down a field like playing a giant game of shuffleboard and managed to overtake me 10 meters from the controls and that is probably the best way to sum my up his legendary antics and adventure put a huge smile on many faces and water to the eye of many pristine moho owners marty's been in the youtube game since before me and has had numerous fans and vehicles during this time most notably his old chalk painted rape wagon honestly i've never quite seen repairs and vehicle care quite like it but with a beautifully unique custom interior and a delicate ecosystem shall we say keeping the thing alive it was quite the vehicle that later ended up being a studio for car throttle i couldn't tell you how many times he had that van toad out of ditches and places it should really not have been which is exactly the reason why i enjoy his travel ethic how the hell did i end up in here how how how right and tremor martin fashion we ended up in the valor in the trench so i'll keep you posted he also toured in an estate bmw for a time and now living over here as well he's moved into his newest home so far a custom-built motorhome which was brave which despite doing surprisingly well for a long time even with marty at the helm and all the off-road tracks he used to thunder it down unfortunately the coachbuild motorhome slowly started to give way and causing major issues okay so this is one of my repairs it's held up really well this isn't repaired there's another big crack there's a repair in between my groin here this is good another repair this is where i haven't prepared so everywhere i haven't repaired has split it's the same over this side firstly with his roof followed by the walls and now mechanical issues too honestly during his time it's very impressive to see how he's kept in such high spirits when the van life is truly kicking him in the balls and he does despite all these mechanical issues with his home and he's very open about his mental health it's inspiring to see maya continue and enjoy life his way whereas most would have crumbled down to the floor like rivita so marty's next step i believe is to find somewhere to retire the old girl and who knows what he'll get up to next like myself mighty took some time away from youtube to reevaluate and has some new ideas and directions he wants to take his channel in so as well as going through his backlog of videos there's new stuff on its way and i highly recommend you should check him out too so there you go seven incredible channels i really think you should explore and watch more you know just while i'm away or sharing of the channels distributing your audience social media suicide i don't think so i am genuine fans or friends with all of these people and i feel this rivalry between creators especially in the van life scene these days is pathetic and honestly their demise focusing on positivity and raising the people around you lifts the entire playing field and makes youtube and all of the scenes within it a nicer place to be so break the algorithms spread the viewership the positivity and the opportunity further along everybody on here works so hard and sometimes solo to bring you some top quality content that doesn't cost a penny facing wind best views i'm running this on 4k so every second that i'm not talking and getting this bit in the bag it's just filling my hard drive right go go and check out these channels i've shown you all the links in the description below and also let me know some of the creators that you watch down in the comments i'd love to see some more channels that i've missed don't post your own channel oh yes i watch this amazing channel called project amber honey informative strategy bold right that's about me done whether i come back to regular vlogging or not still remains to be seen hello buddy um yeah we'll see on that one but there is some more videos coming up in the pipeline that i will be putting out i've definitely got the spark back and i've come up with some other styles better i think video ideas that take a little bit more time but overall will be a lot more entertaining and that's possible now thanks to the amazing people who come over onto patreon so thank you to all of you so for the first time in a long time it was like forever i'll see you next time i should definitely work here more often this is just this is nice the table is minging now because it's come out of the caravan we've got you
