We Eat EVERYTHING In 24h In Malaysia
hello and good morning from the wonderful penang good morning guys today is going to be all about food all about all the types of food possible and with chef bob here he's going to be your guys let's go today it's only talk about eat only yes we're here with momc we're gonna try so many things we're gonna have a street food marathon here in penang let's go get some noodles yeah let's go this place is called mengchai kopitiam and it's been here since 1952 actually it moved location from a previous location to this one because it can accommodate more people and the main thing they are serving for the past 70 plus years is beef four generations of people are working here inside of this shop to give the food to the people and now it's time to taste actually the main thing which is beef noodles these are the noodles this is the soup fresh tastes like herbs a lot it's very simple not many ingredients inside not salty it's like a beef soup you can taste the veggies and the beef is almost soft what are you guys this one is these guys at the table are all chefs so they're way better at describing food than we are so hopefully they can help us with the taste and with the descriptions oh oh man the meat is so soft literally falls off the bones very good and herbal you can feel the the bone marrow of this bone inside the broth amazing very good soup in the morning perfect for waking you up and for keeping you on fire energized do you have this roti here okay the difference what they specially do here this is one piece of bread usually but what they do is that they cut in the middle you can see it makes it more thin and they stuff it with the kayak and butter yeah so kawin roti is red cow is the term that they use that they put it back together between kawaii's marriage marriage of two ingredients in one bread let's see how the married bread looks like very buttery and sweet nice good dessert it's like you have fried honey inside it's good yes good dessert that's a nice touch and with some 932 special drinks the special drink from here oh cheers a bit sour but i love it salty time for us to go to a new place because now the sun is up and we're lucky so we can continue our food experience in a different environment our next point on the agenda is yam rice and this place is a pork place and it's been opened for the past 30 years and they serve the same thing over and over again yum for christ which is supposed to be amazing and the funny thing is that next door they have neighbors who actually sell the same thing but people prefer to come here because of the taste and because it's here twitter let's check it out see how it is today we came to yam rice this is a main dish okay it's a sour type and a mix of all ingredients is a fork you have a kidney and a belly and so on then this is a vinegar thick leg okay this is side dish tofu tofu with egg and this is the rice special rice you see the white color one it's a yum rice they cook it and then they fry it then they mix with the rice then go and steam it okay and now this is nutanix for for the pork okay very nice so you cannot try okay thank you let's get ready for pork and rice like this the soup has um in distance i love the herbs inside you can feel the taste of the herbs that makes it so so good it energizes right it gives you a lot of a bit of a kick and now time for some rice and each of us has its own small bowl okay cool chopsticks level um to go with are better than the intestines look at this one they have a jigglypuff they make chickens the rice is the perfect combination normally rice makes me sleepy but this one is special and now lastly time for some tofu and i love the vinegary taste of the sauce goes very well soft guy with the rice and the yam amazing i think this kind of portion is enough for two people yeah if you're not very hungry just have it you're gonna get a kickstart in the morning sucks up a lot of energy yes plus we have to we have to find a lot of more other places to eat so we cannot afford to eat that much otherwise we are makhan makan beliful let's ask other participants at the table because now we're joined by jackie and paul so what do you guys think about the time jackie is an expert and she knows everything all the dishes i don't eat pork i'm famous for not eating pork oh yeah but i think it's true the rice apparently the rice are so popular so far i'm really impressed like i enjoy the yam rice it's like very tasty and then all the little thai dish serena is like the vinegary one the intestines are nice and chewy like with a nice like softness the tofu is always a good time and i like the soup the soup is like really impressive i expected it to be a very like plain broth but it's like very dense with flavor very good thank you so much paul and jackie next shop is for you thank you so much your food is very good bye bye have a nice day okay now it's time to go to the next place on our list and i think the next place has chicken i have a question for you is this your favorite place to eat yes this is one of the favorite place for me very good so if this is your favorite place it should be also our favorite place i hope so okay let's see let's try the food okay makan maganta let's see what we have and we have the assam fish fishy fishy fishy so let's try them together this fish turn over time over a very slow cooking process into this kind of a soup which is very appreciated by everyone around here it's an old recipe of the owner's mother i'm gonna put some of the broth here from some of the soup that has some mint and veggie inside and mix it with the rice and taste it so let's go this is a bit like sour it hasn't got the fishy flavor it's a bit spicy as well i feel the cucumber taste let me see i would say it's more like laksa more like laksa but it's more thick if laksa and assange had a baby it's definitely this yeah totally agree now i understand why our tour guide love this place so much but it's very good okay for my untrained eye and to me as well yeah it's very good the indonesian one is not as sour as malaysians and the malaysian one is give you a slight sweetness in the sam cooking as well tamarind slice we got some of the goodies here get some salted pork this is cooking yes special pork don't tell other people normally this is a special off the table menu item fried deep fried melts in your mouth let me try also a bit there's a little bit of sugar on top as well that shirt and with some barley ice which is the first time i'm trying it perfect the barley ice washes the whole pork down it's actually funny because when i introduced the place i introduced it as a chicken place and we get to try the chicken lastly so still nevertheless let's see how the chicken is crispy soy sauce sweet i'm very proud amazing chicken amazing but since the local speciality is the fish i think the fish is better you can come here for the chicken as well yes if you like fish you get the fish if you like chicken you get the chicken and the rest is so many places to go to today and i don't know how we're gonna manage i think we can do it we can do it yes okay good thing i'm wearing my metallica t-shirt because we're on a mission to seek and destroy the street food in penang let's go seek and destroy we interrupt our program for a short commercial break on the way to our next shop we receive some of this max candy which is supposed to be a very popular local delicacy so we can try it out strong i feel like jumping from vine to vine and behaving like tarzan for some reason it's very refreshing though good it's good it's tasty it's a very strong flavor malaysian special candy some kind of like fisherman's friend friend very good description very good the local version though the local version and just like that commercial break is over now we can continue our program and the next step on our list is drum rolls please you guessed it guys let's go have some laksa the thing that is special about this laksa place is the fact that it is a family owned business and i'm here with the owner yeah you can call me mr yeah okay tell me what is your laksa why is your laksa so special basically our vlog we are using the first material fresh french fresh lemongrass and then we do it all step by step by our own and then to make sure that our flavor is the most satisfying for our customer okay and how long have you been doing this uh we started our business since 2016 from my hope my hometown so i think the space is quite small so it started as a combo business and now it became a bigger business yeah basically yes okay very good i'm looking forward to try it because my favorite laksa so far is one and the sarawak one so let's see if your laksa is gonna be better yeah thank you we have different type of laksa from i think compared to north and south right basically you get all those sweetness pineapple the sweetness flavor very fresh mint and then the ginger torch together even the fish you can taste the sweetness of the fresh fish thank you thank you so much okay now time for us to try it us non kitchen people see if we like it which is already liking my segment so let's see if we like the laksa as well let me see if i can balance the camera with one hand and the chopsticks with another one so um noodles are amazing soup is a bit sour and fish i think it's just straight yeah the fish is it's so good that i cannot even tell it's fish oh i love it i don't know what this is salad the mint makes all the difference otherwise it would taste honestly like a borscht we have in our country a bit more like on the fishy side but it tastes like that a lot but you have like some ginger here you have the mint that makes all the difference i love it very good dj now you know now i know why it reminds me of foam because of the boris taste and fish borsch in our country one of the best things ever so this laksa definitely top three laksas that i've eaten so far i think number one is taranganu number two is sarawak and number three is penang this place so very good guys first time ever amazing okay time for us to finish and then continue our food trip by the way guys i think i almost forgot the dessert so we have some black glutinous rice with coconut milk and we have some dumplings with gula melaka so let's try the dumpling the dumpling is very soft and the gula melaka is very sweet and it has also some paper at the bottom and i think i ate a bit of paper as well because it got stuck to the dumpling but nevertheless paper actually gives it a better texture i would say and then let's try the black rice with the coconut syrup this one is better i like it more because this one is not that sweet so it actually balances the palette a little bit better so now we can go properly to the next place oh i made it ah i went for a run that's so far away no i went for a run because we had too much food and i want to make some space for the food following because we have a lot more places to come and to trace so let's go to our next destination which is very good let's try it out kendall nothing happier than making the youtube police heavy so people here have been doing this since forever and this one has also beans inside i already love it beans and corn and green let's see what the other people think about this food it's very very good it's i love the cendol because it's very soft this is the green thing the actual the green strings it's very salt corn and the beans normally you don't get that it's just coconut milk ice and the green thing so i like it better actually should people come here to eat definitely one more thing that we have here is abc that they order here which is ice bucket challenge no ice bucket ice battle champal okay thank you people for helping me out with my non-malaysian description so ice battle shampoo let's see i think i like this one more abc better than cendol oh no my opinion did you say that i don't know let me try oh my goodness a year ago better yes the peanuts they make the difference so i'm sorry guys those of you who like cendol not today i think out of everyone here chef bob enjoys the most uh noodles i have five bowls okay yeah don't play play okay no play play around here no play play makan serious business very serious business traffic thank you so much for the shindol abc with abc my favorite team we just got to our next stop here in penang to a place that sells rojak and this project is called rojak tong oh yes and from what i understood tonga means bend over and the only thing i'm bending over is bending over backwards to try all this food because it's been a lot of places yet somehow i still have space in my stomach so hopefully we're not bending over and we're not tonguey after this meal we're still safe somehow but yeah we're staying from tanganyi okay enough of my bad jokes let's go try the tange i understood that there is a special way to eat this special rojak so you take your rojak sticks in my case it's i think tofu and it's a star fruit and it's pineapple wilson and you tongue and dip it in the sauce good starfish and now for the last time again very good tofu i like this kind of wood because you exercise while you're eating very good and it's very good because we had a lot of food before and this way it keeps getting the food down and down and down now let's see what other people think about this wonderful dessert here i think the the thing that is important here is the sauce oh it's flavorless these are just normal fresh vegetables and fresh fruits but then this this is the um the dip yeah the secret thing yes it's got i i believe um shrimp paste sugar uh brown chicken powdered sugar uh what else is in there peanuts do not and it's cooked down until it's really thick yeah very good yummy very good okay from the series of people who are way better at describing the food than we are thank you so much okay for our last rojak tony of the day we have sotong which is my favorite so far yeah let's see how the tonga is one for you gigi oh my god you go first i'm so scared to try this and one for me did you smoke too tongue or something i don't know if it smokes so tongue but it's good so it's good very good thank you for the guy with the car for uh intermission and for rowing in our shot because nevertheless you guys know i love satong because of the chanda satong experience that we had previously somewhere over there over there so very good thank you i don't know about you but to me it seems like there's a special place in hell for those people who have the big loud exhaust pipe on their car or on their bike because every time we're trying to film a video every time there has to be one guy with a big loud exhaust pipe even now i think this is malaysia big exhaust pipes a lot of noise means you go faster i don't know time to go for our hopefully last place of the day because so far my belly is full full and i don't think i can eat anymore holy mother of food gg this is the 11th 12th 18th 99th 101 dalmatians last one on the list how many one did we have so far gg i forgot the count i think nine so far this is nine i don't know 9 10th 11th whatever this is our last spot of the day and finally we ended with a bang so from what i heard it's about sotong today so let's see nor let's go before we get the satong we have to get the nasi kandar which is this one and we are lucky because we share the table right now with a very important person hello hi can you tell us about yourself my name is and i am a malaysian but i live in england in bristol england um i'm here to join all these wonderful people on a food tour and we are today in penang no no restaurant yeah restaurant muhammad to try their nafikanda and some noodles later on as well so okay from the series of us not describing the food properly we bought we brought a special friend with us to describe it properly so you can start describing let's try the food quest yeah spicy oh okay all right very spicy the curry is really good let me try this curry right so they have two types of curry here let me try this one as well right there's three types of curry here these are slightly uh these are like i think it's a chicken curry or meat curry this one is like more of sambal slightly sweetish and this one in the middle i think is the biryani spice maybe they cook the lamb in this this curry so blend all these free curry you can mix your flavor that's the specialty yeah that's a specialty of the nasi kanda they will put only they know how to put the curry how many spoons of curry each curry you'll put it in mix it together that's why it's called nasi kanda we're going to mix it all together and then savor the flavor same with the flavor okay yeah it even rhymes you know you know your stuff because you also attended sponsorship i was a master chef uk in 2018 and i after that i just start cooking selling food and i've got my cookbook published and today i'm with you guys i'm very lucky to be with all you guys they've brought us all from different part of the world to be here to eat and share the same plate very good i couldn't have said it better myself okay now time for us to try a bit the food to see our layman people impression so we got some lamb lamb and some rice rice for me it tastes like a biryani but different exactly same tastes like a brownie but different sauces but with a malaysian hint yeah what is that what do you think yes we had pakistani biryani we had indian biryani and now we have malaysian briyani bangladesh bangladesh as well yeah all sorts of briyani types but yeah this one is different and i kind of like it but i'm waiting for our sotong to me this is how you crown the whole video so let's see if the satong is going to arrive finally the time has arrived for the tongue to enter the action so as you guys already know by now satong is one of my favorite things to eat so far in malaysia and we have a plate full of satong so perfect time for me to try and see how it is let's go big spoonful amazing sweet spicy so tangy noodly amazing what do you think should i try it i don't know of course i'm scared it's gonna be too spicy for me to try it how's that fish flavor yes if you like fishy taste that's what i like the fishier the better the drink that you have to follow it is this pink concoction and it looks like it's going to give us diabetes but let's see hopefully it's not going to happen oh yes very sweet what was the name of this thing cheers guys okay thank you youtube thank you very much thank you so much question of the day which was your favorite food that we tried today in a street full experience extravaganza um but i wanted to let the people in the in the comments get my favorite one okay mine was definitely the assam fish very good amazing and i think one of the best things that we ever did today was the memorable experience that we had with all these people around us yes that was the best part and it was great to see them again yes they are amazing chefs they're amazing tv personalities or influencers influencers or however you want to call them public figures which are way better at describing food than we are yeah so that's why in this video they were present okay now time to find our tour guide and say thank you to him after the whole day of going around with our friend be yes hi it's time to end the video thank you so much bae for the wonderful tour and for being the perfect logistical expert around these places thank you because without you this video would not have been possible because i would have gotten lost so far so welcome
