hi everyone, we’re headed to our next city we’ll be visiting the city of Gujo Hachiman which is said to be the water city of Japan because of it’s pristine rivers and waterways looks like it’s going to be another clear day Gujo Hachiman is an 1.5 hour bus ride from Takayama just enjoying the views along the way and we’re here another struggle somehow made it down the stairs with my luggage bag you can already see the river I think this place it a lot more rural than the other cities I visited the town is already looking beautiful one thing about traveling in countryside is that the transport isn’t very regular you just got to trust the process and hope the bus comes a bit late bit it’s here this is the main Yoshida river that runs through the city the water is so blue and clear going to drop off my bag first now let’s go explore! there is water flowing everywhere throughout the city it’s nice hearing the stream of water everywhere you go Igawa lane narrowly lines this old canal and is home to dozens of beautiful Koi fish they were some of the biggest koi fish I’ve seen you can buy some food for the fish for 100 yen you can just take a bag and leave 100 yen in the box I think they can sense I have food actually quite relaxing just watching the fish time to check out the main town area I was honestly a bit surprised at how quite the streets were many of the shops seemed to be closed the water is so clean here that the drains also have Koi in them another thing Gujo Hachiman is famous for is their food replicas it supplies 50% of food replicas you see in restaurants in Japan some of theses looked so realistic they also had a makeshift restaurant at the back there are also workshops where you can try making these samples or buy premade ones they are so realistic they need a do not eat sign next we’re off to the other side of town the whole town was quite empty with only a few locals even the open shops didn’t seem to have staff this neighbourhood really reminded me of the old streets in Takayama you can get a amazing view from this temple looks like a postcard I was getting a bit hungry at this point and found this dango tea shop that was open I got the dango set they freshly grill the dango on the sport for you I also got the strawberry milkshake they gave me some kinako powder to eat it with this was a game changer it was so good I ordered another one the sun was setting by the time I finished the atmosphere is so different in the evening this town is also very famous for it’s summer festivals I missed it by couple of weeks but I can imagine these streets would be a lot more lively perfect place to enjoy the evening breeze heading back to the hotel for tonight good morning there seems to be a bit more people in the morning and also more people fishing the water is even more refreshing in the morning first thing today we’re going to visit Gujo Hachiman castle it’s a bit of a hike to the castle so got to stay hydrated and let’s go it will be about a 20 min walk I couldn’t find any buses either but you can enjoy the nature along the way and finally at the base of the castle the castle is nicknames ‘Castle in the sky’ because of it’s location overlooking the city you can get a great view of the city from inside the castle you can see the whole town I say the view is definitely worth the hike up the castle has 3 floors each with this view the walk down was a lot easier all the shops were still closed so just going to walk around until they open for lunch the town somehow has a nostalgic feel to it found this cozy restaurant for lunch the menu is Hoba miso again the meat looks so good I tried this dish in Takayama and wanted to have it one more time before I left I think the meat here was even better time for some much needed coffee saw this cute cafe right on the water decided to sit outside so I can enjoy the view from here planning for the last leg of this trip the month long trip is slowly coming to an end I feel like the month has gone by so fast we’ll be spending the last few days in Kansai before heading home although I had an amazing time visiting countryside Japan I’m also excited to be back in the city reunited with the convince store really wanted to try this viral ice cream the ice cream has this creme brûlée top but it’s a lot harder than I thought had to wait about 5 minutes but it was absolutely delicious see you in the next video :)
