UNEXPLORED TERAI - BARA DISTRICT | MAINALI FARM HOUSE ON HONDA NX 200 | 4K
If humans are a part of nature, then despite every civilization they create being artificial, there is always some reflection of natural beauty. In the geographically diverse land of Nepal, glimpses of such civilizations can be seen in any nook and corner. For instance, the Himalayan region has its own charm, the hills have their own resonance, and the Terai has its own beauty. This time, we are heading to a region of Nepal where the paddy fields dance with the wind, and traditions sway beneath the infinite sky. Here, rivers flowing down from the mountains find their rest.
In this fertile plain that offers grain as precious as nectar, we are going to the Terai region to gather experiences of its life, nature, and civilization. we are taking you to the Mainali Farmhouse in the Bara district of the Terai region. Here, we will spend a few days in this new environment, trying to gather new experiences and memories. Due to the overnight rain, Kathmandu was cloudy and cool in the morning. This time, we were traveling with Honda's new NX 200, aiming to gather unique experiences and unusual adventures.
Hello, I am Hemanta Bhandari and I wanna welcome you all to the new episode of our travel series. We are travelling to Mainali Farmhouse which lies in Bara district. We have to cover 150 kms to reach there. In this epi we have the brand new NX 200, and the price is Rs 4.85 lakhs. THe ground clearance of this bike is 167mm which is suitable for both on and off roads. Fuel tank 12L.
Average mileage is around 40-45 km per litre. We are near Chobar region and we gonna take this route to Hetauda and the to Mainali FH. Lets go.
There are several routes to reach Hetauda from Kathmandu, but since many of them are under construction, we chose the Kulekhani route. After Balkhu, we found Taudaha with its own history and tranquility. This place, nestled close to the valley, felt truly natural and picturesque.
After 20 kms from our office, we are here in Pharping. If you take the down route, you will reach Dakshinkali But we are taking the bypass route to Hetauda where we have to cross Kulekhani on the way. Pharping is famous for Monasteries where you will see many on the way.
This place is cool and foogy which can be the perfect place to escape from KTM valley. We are going to have some breakfast and head back to our route, In Pharping, the site of Nepal's first hydropower project, many monasteries can be seen. The sight of these monasteries nestled among tall trees was mesmerizing. Amidst this, everyone's daily routines were gradually beginning. The road from Pharping to Kulekhani was better than expected. Although some sections were unmaintained while others were maintained, the journey was not difficult.
Due to the fog, some houses were intermittently visible and then blurred. We just reached Kalanki, Kulekhani and travelled 50 Kms from ktm. This road is the mixture of on and off road because of the construction work going on. Hetauda is about 40Kms from here.
This bike is such a comfortable option to ride in such roads. We are going to have our lunch and hit the road. When is the meat coming ? Right now, HAHAHAHAHA Near the place where we had our meal, there is the Indrasarovar Dam.
Originally constructed for hydroelectric power production, Indrasarovar has now become a tourist destination. Just a few moments after we finished our meal and left, the clouds in the sky began to pour rain. Wherever the Nepal 8th Wonder team goes, it seems impossible for there not to be rain.
He is our script writer Pushpa Devkota, who is with us for the trip to Mainali FH. This is my first time experiencing such thing and I am totally excited for this. This is the face reveal of our script writer Pushpa Devkota. With Kulekhani behind us, we had entered Makwanpur District. Spanning an area of 2,426 square kilometers, Makwanpur has been known since ancient times. This place has accumulated some heroic tales and still displays remnants of old-style houses.
Hetauda, the district headquarters of Makwanpur, is recognized as one of the most populous cities in Nepal. We were entering Hetauda shortly, which is among the cities with a large population. Hello everyone, we just reached Hetauda. Hetauda is the home town of our friend Abhee. I wanna welcome my all friends to Hetauda. How are you finding Hetauda ? I am finding it quite good and the weather is hot here.
Hetauda is quite big in area nowadays, back in the days this area was small. We just flied our drone and got to see this big and amazing city. There are good places to explore, near by this city but not inside the city. Hetauda, which covers an area of 261 square kilometers, has a population of around 200,000.
Leaving behind the bustle of Hetauda, we headed towards Pathlaiya. A short distance from Hetauda is the Churiya Mai Temple. Especially on the day of Vijaya Ashtami, this place becomes extremely crowded.
We reach a place called 3 no. Pul which is half an hour far from Hetauda. This place is quite famous for Sekuwa and to chill. This place is recommended to us by Abhee which is famous for sekuwa. "Telling us the way to cook Sekuwa" We have been working here for about 25-30 years.
This is our family business. To be honest every work is hard but having your family to back you up is the best feeling "Telling us the way to cook Sekuwa" On this stretch of road, the No. 3 Bridge is a popular stop for travelers to rest and enjoy sekuwa (grilled meat). Undoubtedly, the sweetness and authenticity of the sekuwa there won everyone's hearts.
As evening approached, we had entered Bara District. On both sides of the road was the dense jungle of Nijgadh. As far as the eye could see, there were only trees.
With the fresh air, pleasant aroma, setting sun, and scattered warmth, we had begun to experience thehospitality of the Terai. After 155kms of ride from Ktm we are finally here. We came to this place in the year 2022. I would like to welcome Nepal8thwonder family to the Bara region as well as in Mainali FH. I hope that your stay here will be good and exciting.
We are in the room of this farm house and these rooms are filled with the arts made by the Tharus of this region. Nowadays these art are in the verge of extinction, so we are trying to promote such arts. The Mainali Farmhouse in Kolhavi Municipality, Bara District, has become like a home forvisitors.
The homely atmosphere and surroundings allow tourists to closely observe the local lifestyle and way of life. This is the process of milking the cow. This is our household cow which is a cross breed and the milk from this cow is delicious than other cows. This is where the urban and rural environments differ. Here, you can be close to the elements that are inherently part of nature.
On the other hand, we are close to the grandeur of the man-made whirlpool. Both are complementary to each other. To free ourselves from one environment, we must embrace another.
Welcome to this farm. It has been 26 yrs, that this place is established. These goats that we have in our farm is all cross breed and we dont take them out for grazing. We have different types of goats in this farm.
"Talking about breeding of these goats" We have been doing business of these goats from Sitamadi, India to Jhapa, east of Nepal to Nuwakot, north of Nepal to Dhading, west of Nepal, as well as Pokhara. "Talking about his business of this farm" The stay at Mainali Farmhouse made us feel as though we were celebrating a village holiday of our own. For those who do not have a village in the Terai, this place offers a completely new experience. Another aspect that struck us as unusual was that people start their work even before the sun rises. Similarly, schools here begin as early as 6 a.m.
The reason behind this is the Terai's temperature, which can reach around 40 degrees Celsius during the day. In the month of Ashar, fields were being prepared for paddy planting, with farmers actively working. The scene of children heading to school and people rushing to the market filled the streets early in the morning. Even in such heat, people could be seen following the footprints of the sun, making a living and continuing their daily lives. Hello everyone, its Day 2 and we are here in Mainali FH and we have so many activities to do. We will do camping, tubing, riverwalk and explore local markets and many more.
We got to see local lifestyle and many things to shoot. We are going to have local items for breakfast such as mangos, curry, yoghart, and Chapati. We explored many sectors of Mainali FH this morning and the weather is quite hot now. We usually do our activities in the morning and the evening because the temperature rises to 35 - 41 degree C. Thats why we recommend the morning and evening time to our visitors. We had our lunch and now we are going out for our shoot of this bike.
We will be heading to a place which is 3kms away as well as we will go inside the forest to do other activities. The main reason for coming here is to show everyone that in Nepal, places to visit are not just the tall Himalayas but also the Terai plains. Being close to nature doesn’t always mean trekking; sometimes, experiencing the society, its customs, and people's activities up close is also part of travel.
Our stay at Mainali Farmhouse was challenging due to the heat, but there were plenty of activities to engage in. Among them was a jungle walk. Along with the jungle walk, we had planned to test Honda's new NX 200, and our entire team set out for the adventure. We are in a place named Charkose Jhadi which is 3km away from our hub.
This place is famous for cycling, jungle walk as well as bird photography. And we are here for our shoot of NX 200 bike. Amidst the fun and sweating in the heat, we were gathering new experiences. Some were rushing to capture photos, others were pondering what to photograph; everyone was either amazed, delighted, or overwhelmed by the heat. Just look at our condition. As per our viewers request, this is the BTS of our works's shoot.
Regardless of the situation, that time with the entire team was truly memorable. What could be a better example of how work and enjoyment can go hand in hand? Whats happening here ? We are mounting the magic arm for frontal POV shot. We just finished our shoot and its a wrap. We are on our way to shoot the local market. After finishing the shoot, we set out to explore the Kohalbi market in the evening.
The vibrancy of the market was quite different. The hustle and bustle of the people indicated how important Kohalbi market is to the locals. Additionally, as the evening coolness increased, the market appeared completely transformed during that time. Bara District is located in the central-eastern Terai of Nepal. It is a blend of dense forests, flatlands, and a mix of rural and urban areas.
We were in Kolhavi Municipality in Bara. This municipality covers an area of 157.4 square kilometers and is predominantly inhabited by the Tharu community. The Terai is known as Nepal's granary, and being there made us understand why. Despite the intense heat, we have immense respect for the farmers who embrace agriculture. Goodmorning its Day 3 and today we are going to do tubing, riverwalk.
We are gonna float these tubes in the river but first of all we will have our breakfast. We have our brand new caps which will be available soon, so stay tuned and also we will do caming tonight. It started raining when we were all set to go out for tubing. So lets wait for sometime.
Carrying a few tubes,we set out for tubing. Who doesn't want to swim in the heat? We were in a dilemma about whether to go or not if it rained. However, as soon as the rain stopped,we excitedly left the farmhouse. We are here in Jadibuti area which is 3kms away and the river is jamuni khola where we will be doing our tubing. Due to the less flow of the river we will be doing tubing in certain area.
Back in the days the water level was high enough to float and come down stream. But we can do tubing in such sections also. There was a unique joy in swimming in the water. Although the water wasn't deep enough to flow as we had imagined, we still enjoyed ourselves by pushing each other and dunking each other in the tubes for a while. How are you feeling Suyas? The water is a bit dirty but the fun is 100% This was kind of a different experience to me but the water level is quite low.
But if you guys are here in the rainy season then it would be quite fun. It was quite fun because the weather is daam hot and this place is cooling us a bit. This is escape from the hot temperature here but we have to go and bath when we reach our hub. We are back here in our hub and we are all freshened up.
I am from terai and milk tea is mandatory for me despite the temperature. We are planning to go out for camping. The loaction for our caming is the same as before but we have a small spot there for our camping where nowadays they build dam there. We have our stuffs all ready and we are going to the camping site by bullock cart.
So we will have our dinner there in the camp site and enjoy the sunset vibes. The bullock cart is an extremely important mode of transportation in the Terai. carrying all the camping gear on a bullock cart pulled by two oxen. We set out towards the banks of the Jamuni River We had several tents and firewood with us. With water and other essential supplies, we headed towards the campsite.
Our actual camp site was a bit far from here but we had to move to a safer site because of the wild elephants roaming around this place. This place is a bit covered from every side so i guess this is safer location than the previous one. The sight of wild elephants had initially instilled some fear, but amidst the hustle and bustle, we had forgotten all about it.
The scene before the campsite, with the sun setting gradually, was absolutely captivating. The time when the sun’s rays scattered and reflected off the river was magical. In the backdrop of the present, when the moment of life emerging and reflecting in the rivers is considered, it makes one ponder how long the day must have felt for those weary hands. Now, they seek rest and a sound sleep.
Yet, for us, the day was just beginning. For us, the end of the day marked the beginning... What are you up to Sadish ? I am doing this so that we can have a good spot for our barbieque. We are about 1 km away from our hub where the name of this place is Jamuni khola. For those who love camping, we bring them a bit far from residental area and close to the nature and river where we select the safer spot.
We just knew that there was movement of such wild elephants in our previous spot. So we are in a safer spot now. So many of my friend ask me that "Can we really do camping in Terai ?" Yes it quite possible . Just remember us. When we woke up by the Jamuni River, the sky was completely covered with dark clouds. Despite the apprehension about heavy rain, the cool breeze and the view of the fields around us made us want to spend some time in the morning just enjoying the scene. We also enjoyed a nice cup of tea right in front of the tent. The tea had alleviated the fatigue from the night.
Some had fallen asleep, while others had not, but regardless of the situation, the experience turned out to be enjoyable for everyone. Hello everyone, we are here in the bank of Jamuni river and we had our camping done. We slept a bit late so we are late to wake up. The weather is quite cloudy . So today we will go to Katiya where they prepare meat in a clay pot which got quite famous. We got many places in KTM where they serve the same dish carring the same essence. So we gonna see the place where this dish originated Happy Ashar 15 to everyone and today we will have mangoes, yoghart with bitten rice.
Today is the day to have dahi chuira and the day to plant paddy. This day we have a belief that if we plant paddy then it will nice the whole season. We had our breakfast and we are here in the site to plant rice. We will go there and shoot some content as well as plant rice. Asar 15 is celebrated with the traditional consumption of yogurt and beaten rice, and it is also observed as National Paddy Day. Fortunately, the village we were in had ample rice cultivation.
Rain is essential for rice to grow in Nepal, and the arrival of the monsoon season brings joy to many faces. For us, witnessing the scenes of rice planting, sowing seeds, and the close connection with the soil provided a new experience. TEASING AND TALKING NONSENSE I am excited and happy cause this is an important event for Nepal to plant rice.
And getting the opportunity to plant rice myself, i am feeling very happy. What is the importance of this day? This is a belief where we farmers feel happy and think that we will have a prosperous farming ahead. We are going to a place in Rautahat which is katarhiya and is 15kms away. There is a famous dish name Katiya which is prepared by cooking meat in claypot. Temp is 40 degree and if we faint on our way then all the blames goes to him.
No one probably imagined that a four-day stay in the Terai would pass by so quickly. We were heading towards Katariya, passing through vast fields and seeing various scenes of houses shaded by straw and thatch, and other endless landscapes. Since Katariya is known for its origin of katiya (a local variety of meat dish), we were curious to experience its authentic taste.
Hello everyone we reached Katahariya which is 25kms away from our hub. The dish Katiya is made in the claypot where meat is heated and prepared. People from different parts of Terai come here to try this dish. Our food is ready and we are gonna taste it. The taste is authentic. So we gonna end our vlog here having this dish Katiya.
During our four-day stay at Mainali Farmhouse in Bara District, we gathered many experiences. We collected beautiful memories of the people there, their hard work, activities, and interactions. We made an effort to understand a place different from where we live. We observed and lived closely with the rural life involved in animal husbandry and agriculture. Not only that, but the entire team enjoyed tubing, created new memories through camping, and participated in rice planting, making this journey highly successful. We thank our sponsor, Honda NX 200, for making this pleasant stay possible.
Despite being far from home, we never felt away from home, and for that, we thank Samip Mainali and entire family. Our gratitude also goes to our Suyas, whose presence made this stay truly delightful. Lastly, we extend our thanks to our dear viewers, whose love and encouragement gave us the opportunity to gather such new experiences. We will meet you in the next episode soon. Until then, please bid us farewell...
