It's getting quite late so the sun is just.. ..Yeah, you see Just going behind the mountain there Just shining the last rays of sun Gireson - Turkey Season 8 - Eps. 14 Good morning Internet! It is 8:10 in the morning and welcome back to the channel I'm wondering now This is one way street It's doing that again. It's sending me.. into the wrong streets

This way Well, luckily the city of Giresun is still sleeping So it's no problem Yeah, I have no idea Which one way street is.. .. Which way. That's probably one way This way Then signs everywhere Oops Sorry people I'm just trying to find my way here That's a one way.. This way then Not quite sure.. Yes Yes Okay so..

Good morning! Um, welcome to another nice day again The weather looks amazing, I'm really happy with that 'Cause the forecast is actually not so great so, let's see how I get on today I have quite a long day planned again 370 km but I'll start to ride of parallel to the Black Sea My plan is to first follow the Black Sea coast for a little bit To past Trabzon and then go back inland again through these mountains And then end up somewhere over here, I think it will be I'm almost in Trabzon I think Already the outskirts or not? No this is Akçaabat Okay, I am now on my way to the Vazelon Monastery Which should be at the end of this road Somewhere high up in the mountains Vazelon.. Still going in the right direction No I passed it How did I pass it now Maybe this track doesn't lead all the way There I think I have to go back Has to be somewhere up there, no? Ah ha Oh, there's like a super steep walking trail Yeah, I'm not too sure about that because.. .. Then I have to leave everything here Frankie, and all my stuff I have another idea What a stunning location for a monastery, right? And this is quite a special one. It's one of a few Greek Orthodox monasteries in this area

Um, but I think it's one of the or maybe even the oldest Christian monastery It was built in 270 AD It's a shame I can't ride all the way up to it But.. okay, let's get back down the mountain Let's try this track This is a slightly different route down Wow! Oh, this is stunning! Really beautiful I'm now over 2,200 m I'm not sure if I'm going to climb more, or this is going to be it Restaurant 15 kms Look at this Temperature has plummeted it as well It is really a lot colder up here Can definitely, you can definitely notice. What am I now? 2,350 m Oh the air is just so fresh and clean here Must be very good for your lungs to live up here, I would say This is a mosque Wow! Look at this view! And I'm now at 2,400 Definitely a new record and I might climb some more, let's see 'Cause I think the road is going up there The views are outstanding And 2,500 still no problem for the carb, good to know Frankie can still handle this altitude without any problems Definitely have food They have uh.. pig Hello I would like something to eat Okay There we go, got some kofte Some salad and bread Oh, it smells really good Where are you going? [German] Ah Bayburt Bayburt - Bayburt This way. Thank you Giresun Giresun Bayburt Yeah From where do you come here? The Netherlands - The Netherlands - Yeah Okay Bye bye I got it this This way That gave me the fuel that I needed To tackle..

.. The upcoming part 'Cause it's still quite a long way to go it's 133 km But I think yeah, the biggest part of that, almost everything is going to be on mountain roads And yeah, maybe.. maybe stretches  are paved like this But I think a lot of it will also be unpaved, so that will take me a while I really wonder how this place looks like in winter, because there's probably a lot of snowfall It must look like a magical winter wonderland But probably also not so easy to reach anymore I can imagine Now the next town is only over there And I am back on dirt again That's what I expected already Every now and then I must pinch myself To fully realize Where I am riding I thought today was going to be a good ride But I didn't know it was going to be this good I had no idea Oh, this time I gotta Keep my eyes on the track It's a little rocky Oh. Down here Okay But surely these mountains must also kind of feed the Euphrates river right? After winter when all the snow starts to melt Unless it kind of all drains towards the Black Sea It's also possible but.. Can't believe some of these houses are still standing Like this one These are more sheds than houses Now Didn't see a road there Wait Yeah, I go this way Ah, in an area like this, where you have all these like tiny little mountain roads I normally like, I plot a route but it's only until you get there that you kind of see oh wait, this is kind of like the main road and then this is like a tiny little track So sometimes my plotted route is trying to send me over some impossible route So then it's better to find an alternative And now I'm going straight through this village instead of just around But that's okay Sure I can find a way out Somehow Some steep drops! Don't look to the left Ah, it's fine. This is not so narrow So I am now doing a massive descent All the way down down to the valley And then I'm going to have to climb up on the other side there So yeah, it's slow going.. in mountains like these This is awesome Wow. Look at the sun just hitting the rocks there still

It's getting quite late So the sun is just.. yeah, you see Just going behind the mountain there Just shining the last rays of sun on the road here Yeah, it's now 3:30 nearly It's just been really slow going for the last couple of hours I got 54 km to go But yeah, at a pace like this, that still 2 hours What a stunning area right? Really beautiful Beautiful! What's gonna happen? Rockfall, narrow.. twisty Ooh ah ha You see this? This is what's that all about Well, let's see 5.4 km till the top. Let's go

5.1 It's beautiful with the light now right? Oh It's the golden hour Wow Amazing Oh, is that the top? Has to be 1.3 km Hairpin number two Last one What a ride as they say What next? What is on the other side of the mountain? I made it to tar So last 35 km To Bayburt So I got myself a room. Very, very nice people here And the man at reception spoke very good English. Probably the best English uh, I have encountered so far in Turkey

And I told him that I took the pass and he's like, oh my God that's the most dangerous road in the world So I guess different standards. I told him, nah it was.. it was great, I had a blast Yeah, it was just a fantastic ride But I am not done with Bayburt yet, because there is some fascinating history about this place So tomorrow, the weather forecast is actually pretty bad It's going to rain tomorrow, it's probably going to rain for a couple of days So I don't think I'll be able to completely escape the rain So I thought tomorrow let's stay here and check out this place a little bit more For now, I am just going to collapse on the bed ecause I am so shattered I've decided to walk to the castle  which is a great idea because then I don't have to walk around in my motorbike gear except that  of course the castle is right on top of a hill you see the Castle's up there and I'm now here on  street level so it's going to be a good exercise yeah the weather is still nice um it's going  to probably going to be raining this afternoon   Because I am so shattered The next morning... I've decided to walk to the castle which is a great idea Because then I don't have to walk around in my motorbike gear except that of course, the castle is right on top of a hill You see the castle's up there And I'm now here on street level, so it's going to be a good exercise Yeah, the weather is still nice. Um, it's going to probably going to be raining this afternoon So I thought, let's head to the castle right in the morning Oh, dark clouds are already rolling in I have to be quick So the location of Bayburt has always been very important for trade Because it links the Black Sea to the Persian Gulf and so Bayburt and the surrounding areas have been considered one of the earliest Turkish settlements in Anatolia But before it became a Turkish settlement, many different people have ruled here Bayburt was captured by the Cimmerians already in the 8th century BC Then by the Medes Achaemenid  Empire Yervandid Armenia Pontus Greater Armenia Rome The Byzantines The Bagratid Armenian Kingdom The Seljuk Turks The Aq Oyunlu Safavid Persia And then the Ottoman Turks And in addition, around 1250 the fort was under the brief control of Georgian Princes of Samtskhe And so this fort over history, it has been destroyed and rebuilt many, many times Even a Russian army captured the fort under General Paskevich in the early 1800s And they partly demolished the fort, after which it was rebuilt again Let's have a little look inside Guessing from here, you have a pretty good view over Bayburt You can see really well that some things are older than others Many parts are rebuilt here I have now reached kind of the far end of the castle So from here with a little bit of imagination, you can get a grasp of how big this castle was 'Cause this is the one edge. It used to run all the way down there

Up there and and then all along this wall here And the last time that the castle was destroyed by the Russians in 1828 They actually named this place, Chinaemachin castle probably mispronounced that as well Um, because it had beautiful purple  and green tile decorations And at the entrance there were a few tiles but I'm pretty sure that they were placed after to give an idea but yeah, it used to be a beautifully decorated place. But yeah, not much is left from that So I'm now going to walk back down  the hill, that was it for today I really hope you liked this video. If you did please give me a big thumbs up Subscribe down below and then I will see you in the next video
