THE PERFECT TRIP IN OMAN UNDERRATED COUNTRY IN THE MIDDLE EAST
good morning everyone today is day two exploring old man and today we're going to be leaving the capital muscat and we're going on a road trip so we got this rental car just now it's a kia rio and it's about 30-31 dollars a day so pretty good price get in here asap to cool down oh it's like an oven in here yeah so we've got quite a lot of driving to do just the first spot is uh four hours away we're going inland and uh up to the mountains i think it's the highest point in oman right i'm not sure i know it's very high yeah it might be i'll i'll check that out so so after many hours we've arrived at the bottom of the mountain range now and we were a bit confused whether we could go up this road without a 4x4 but the majority of the links online say that it should be okay in a normal car so we're gonna find out now because we're starting to go up you can already see here how huge the mountains are i think we're gonna be heading over that way though luckily there's barely any traffic right hell that's all this way yeah many uh trucks like big trucks on the roads but but it was okay it wasn't bad it was easy to drive just gotta watch out for the goats yeah the gold's crossing the the roads all the time this is what you don't need going uphill no get out of the road guys so we have arrived now in jebel shams that's how you pronounce it the last part of the road here was uh paved and this is just one of the viewpoints there's a few viewpoints on google maps get down here in a second wow yes i think from what i read some of these drops are like a thousand meters that's nuts you can see why they call it the grand canyon of oman yeah it's it's very similar we've been to the grand canyon in the u.s before and uh it's very similar yeah it kind of looked like this with huge drops as well so i think this area below is called wadi ghul wadi means valley that's why you keep seeing it in a lot of the countries that we're going to in the middle east so the highest point around here is uh 3009 metres you can't go to that point because it's a military base it might be that point up there i can see there's some sort of buildings up there yeah i think it might be up there so we can't go to the highest point but yeah we're pretty damn high either way before we continue with our road trip we're going to talk about the sponsor of this video surf shark minutes and this is actually where the road ends it doesn't continue on anymore and this is where the trails start from so i think we're going to do a bit of like a mini hike got a big bottle of water here we're not going to do the entire hike though i think it takes like uh four hours so we'll be doing that today like a little village here check this goat out here oh interesting place right yeah in the middle of the mountains and middle mountains middle of nowhere i'll put that in there seen too many videos of them like headbutting people yeah hey back off dude back off bro man get out of the way what's this guy trying to do is he gonna headbutt me what do you want leave me alone getting harassed by goats out here where's the sound coming from oh it's that little guy up there what the hell there they are that's a funny sound coming from that one man there sure are some narrow parts aren't they yeah you are afraid of heights i don't think it's this trail is recommended for you yeah you won't be able to do this trail if you're afraid of heights because i mean look at this there yep you don't want to fall down there game over i'm glad we came down there though it's way cooler seeing it from from here you can see down into the valley a lot better and you also get the cool walls at the side yes see i guess these wires are here because that's how sketchy it is oh that is real narrow man yeah best nut look so on the way to the village that we're gonna be staying in we stopped at this spot here which is really cool we saw it on the way up there's like some ruins back there so they look like they're probably like hundreds of years old i did read online that there's loads of like abandoned old towns here and yeah i'm pretty sure that's one of them there looks pretty awesome on the mountainside and here you can see the plantations below got the palm trees as well so there must be some water source flowing through here somewhere so we think we can actually visit the ruins we saw this uh road down here there's a road going through where it looks like water would flow through here maybe in rain season like a dried up river and yeah we just drove down here now we saw other cars and there are signs here for trails so there's a w6b which it says that way and uh w6a so i'm not sure if this is like off limits but there's a gate here time to trespass yeah there's someone there you sorrow so you didn't say to go away hello up there okay thank you thank you all right so i guess we can explore the ruins of what was probably an old village here so yeah that is the the new village over there and i guess this was a settlement before so this is us just winging it this was not part of the plan at all didn't even know this place existed and i wonder what happened here seems like all the recent places that we've gone that are in ruins was destroyed by earthquakes so yeah i wouldn't be surprised if this one was as well you can see like the wooden beams wow i wonder how long this roof has been here that's been the cool thing in the the middle east there's just so much uh history so many historic sites even around jordan when we were driving we could see loads of light ruins that tourists don't even go to just because there's so many but there's so many old ruins everywhere yeah that's a nice photo spot isn't it yeah yeah so we were just over there before on the roadside oh it really is beautiful here nice and green that's definitely a lot hotter than uh that mountain right girl yeah because now we're not so high yeah so the temperature is definitely hotter and it's harder to walk yeah this is as far as we're gonna go on this trail i have no idea where the proper trail goes i don't know if it goes all the way up to the mountain that we went to so from here you can actually see a old wall that would have gone all the way around this old village goes up here all the way around completely destroyed though all the way up the hill it's like a wall man look at these views that they had though amazing would have been interesting to see how the village looked back in the day so so we've arrived at the village that we're going to be spending the night in it's called misfa al albarin so we're just on the balcony area of the place that we're staying over here you got the area where we can have like dinner and breakfast and stuff and got a really nice view from over here so back there is like the new village the modern village and over here is the old village and we're also staying in the old village so you can see here that it's made out of mud brick from the old times a bit like the place that we stayed in sewer in egypt and the room is also similar to the one in siwa right yeah i think i like this one better actually it seems more cozy yeah i like the colors that they put i don't know if it's like cat carpets or over here yeah nice designs got the fridge here kyle said the internet's good yeah it is yeah we got ac and we didn't actually pay for this room he gave us like an upgrade since nobody's here because of ramadan and we paid uh 30 reals overall so yeah a good deal for for what we're getting and that includes breakfast and dinner as well places don't usually include dinner and here's a little bathroom it's like all joint together so we're just going on our last little walk of the day trying to catch the the sunset yeah so this will be the first little glimpse of the town we'll explore it tomorrow tomorrow properly though yeah yeah i think there are a trail to do and we will do it tomorrow and yeah just see what like the the houses and everything how how this place looks yep already looks good from what we can see oh check this one out here built on top of this huge rock that's crazy check out the entrance here it's like a cave entrance or something says that it's a hostile traditional hostel so this place is really strict by the way there's like uh signs everywhere saying that short clothes are very offensive here so like no shorts t-shirts okay and i think women have to pretty much cover up everything yeah yeah they said over the shoulders but i think the longer the better yeah and there's also signs saying don't film or take pictures of anyone without a their authority so yeah i gotta watch out as we're filming there's nobody really around anyway so check this out at the top we have this uh building here the guy said that it's a castle the remains of a castle kind of looks like one of those towers that we've seen throughout oman on all like the cliff tops we always see towers that look like this and definitely get some amazing views from up here so you can see how small the old town is that's it pretty much and the new town is tiny as well and we got here just in time because the sun's just about to go down so so it's dinner time now at our guest house i just got some rice and like uh minced meat and peas really tasty they also give us the usual bread and hummus and cows is the rice and that's just fish right with some kind of spices yeah tuna steak and some vegetables and i also put this is something with a yogurt i think this might be the first place ever that's included dinner like breakfast is normal about dinner never yeah yeah i don't know why maybe there there are no options around i'm not sure because those places are cafes but maybe they have food i don't know yeah yeah over there it looks like there's restaurants and stuff but yeah we're not complaining don't have to spend any money on dinner so check how cool this is already you have like these little alleyways with a roof going over we thought this was interesting virtual reality it's closed right now but didn't expect to see anything like that around here even here you have those markings of like trails so i guess there's a trail around here and then you have some buildings that are kind of ruins so a few years ago a lot of these buildings were like abandoned but because uh tourism increased a lot of people renovated the places turned them into like hostels hotels restaurants cafes this the right way girl yeah yeah so some of these buildings here are like 200 300 years old this one probably is here since it's falling to pieces and that's when the people settle in this region there was a tribe around 300 years ago that settled here because there's like a oasis nearby natural water source and there's been people living here ever since uh so i guess this is where like the plantation starts you can see these things they have here i don't even know what you call them for water so from what i've read this is like from over 200 years ago that the tribe set up in the past and that's how they spread the water everywhere so that's obviously coming from like a natural oasis somewhere yeah it's like a smart way to make the water go uh exactly where they want to so that they can plant everything yeah and use the water and don't don't waste it yeah even here i don't know what this is looks like this would fill with water maybe rain water got some steps there looks like a swimming pool maybe it is so wow so this area is really beautiful at the bottom like the plantation area so you got some bananas here probably got all sorts of fruits here that's interesting right because bananas normally like a tropical jungle kind of yeah yeah like this area it just looks like we're in a tropical place yeah but it's not just a plantation they find a way to to make it grow here well i think it's just that water yeah it's not that hard to grow did you see there like some green bananas yeah i saw it up there yeah so basically all the people that have lived here during the centuries have just relied on agriculture and now tourism and down here in the plantation you get this place here miss old house i think this is the most famous place for people to stay you obviously get the nice view of the trees and everything so the village is a bit bigger than we thought we thought that down here was just a plantation and no buildings but yeah people still living down here you can see from the top because there are so many trees yeah kyle we've been to some like oasis places in deserts before but this might actually be one of the nicest ones right with the village around the plantations the other places you just see from afar yeah they didn't really seem to be options to walk around did they here they even made a trail like a proper trail so yeah it's very nice wow so check this out they even grow mangoes there mangoes in the desert so i guess you can grow every tropical kind of fruit here didn't expect to see mangoes out there though so about a 40 minute drive from that last village we've arrived at a city here called nizwa seems like a pretty big city right now it's quiet obviously but we've come here for the four nisswa fort looks gigantic it goes all the way down there don't even know where the entrance is and this is supposed to be the most visited national monument in oman so it should be good this is pretty much how it is all around right like super organized streets clean yeah and even like the the villages like the houses are seem to be pretty good like very big houses everywhere and they are very spread out too so we haven't seen a place that seems a little bit more poor yeah everywhere seems to be very nice yeah so inside you have all the souvenir shops loads of pottery it's pretty much all battery beautiful buildings look at that building there but this isn't like the actual entrance to the castle looking for the castle right yes maybe it's inside here so that's cool it's kind of like there's a mini city within the fort i thought that maybe it was just going to be one of those forts that had like a few cannons and stuff but not an actual uh livable for so you can see all the traditional houses here we had no idea people lived here did they no yeah you can see the walls of the fort there yeah on the outside all the here oh look at this house here i don't think anyone lives there anymore yeah this is definitely like a more new one isn't it yeah almara house maybe it's something like a hotel or something yeah i think some of them are hotels and then this will be some old building here can't even tell what this is like little windows so from what i read this place was constructed in the 1650s but there are some parts of it that are from the 9th century going that far back but the majority of it is from the 17th century let's see all right check this out for a nice door carved door dead end so we're now in uh nisswa fort the proper fort so you have to pay to come in here this is uh five reals right next to the fortified like city part as well really looks awesome in here so i read that this apparently has the biggest tower in oman i don't know if it's this one this one is huge i think over here is uh is a well from what i read there's like seven or eight wells around here so i guess this is one of them right here looks like there's another one over there as well oh yeah it's a long way down yeah so this fort is good because apparently it has like the classical omani architecture so what you see in here does look nice different uh other ones that we've seen also kind of looks like the mud brick the color here you can see them using the well the water well i think they use the cows to bring the buckets up ah here's talking about the famous uh traditional omani architecture the doorways and gateways that we saw all different styles so even inside this part there's another water well right here so this place is built on top of a subterranean uh stream that helped them a lot because when like the city was under siege they were able to stay inside and always have the supply of water this is like a public meeting room from the rooms that we saw all the rooms like this it's like a big rug big beautiful rug on the ground yeah people all always sit pretty much on the ground there's some other places that just had the back cushion and not the one below but yeah they're always like low to the ground and it's not fun in this heat 37 degrees celsius you don't want to be walking up any stairs so it turns out that this area is the actual fort a gigantic flag and the area that we just showed before down there is the castle where we had the rooms and stuff he got some great views from up here though panoramic views oh you can't walk no you have to oh man i do more work pretty dangerous though look at that if you fall you're dead but if i go up you're also dead yeah so even this area just look how green it is i didn't realize what was that green just non-stop date palms all over foreign and behind the fort there is a farm here we've obviously seen this kind of thing already today oh check this out a camel hello there i don't think we've seen a camel in oh man right no not yet yeah we saw loads in egypt man it's so big i think can touch him let me try oh come on nope nope that was a get lost so it's the next day now and we've come to a spot called bhima sinkhole which is for free you don't need to pay so it's this big underground like swimming pool here so just about a three minute walk that way is the ocean and the salt waters come in beneath the ground into this pool here looks beautiful and this is the first spot with other tourists right the other places that we went it was a bit too hot and here you can actually swim so it's bearable yeah it's too hot to walk around villages and cities yeah so it's super hot once again obviously but it's gonna be great getting in there brought some supplies as well some frozen water got some apples and bananas let's go all right we're going in beautiful clear water here on this side and you can see it just goes super deep over there like black almost ah that's nice finally cool down still quite warm though isn't it the water yeah but better than outside yeah so me and kyle were saying this reminds us of the the alga of obviously the orange rocks even the beach that we went to in muscat had some orange rocks like this yeah i can see why all the tourists just decided to come here instead but in oman there's loads of places where the water right yeah we wanted to go to one but since there was like a 40 minute hike yeah we didn't want to walk in this yeah we decided not to go this one you don't need to do any hike so best option for the weather when the weather is like this so we were going to go to a spot called uh wadi shab which is like a an oasis kind of like a canyon place a lot nicer than this but yeah we just don't want to deal with all the heat are the fish biting you they're biting me yeah fish massage and the fish massage these little guys here so we've now driven about 10 minutes down south from that sinkhole and we've come to a spot that's kind of off-road here on the coast and we're looking for a spot called secret beach or hidden beach that's what it says on google maps so we couldn't pass this part here that's probably why uh this car is parked but i think we only have to walk a few minutes and look at this it looks absolutely beautiful here a lot nicer than what we showed in muscat at the beach there that's like really turquoise looking tiny little beach here we could probably just come here but maybe hidden beach is nicer well we didn't expect to see that in old man did we no we had no idea i think i just found this place by looking on google maps clicking around yeah we were going to that place over there and then i saw hidden beach and then i looked at the pictures and they were like this beautiful yeah i think it's just over this hillside here that does look really nice though secluded beaches love it yeah so this is what's listed as hidden beach on google maps awesome bigger than the other part that we saw i think this is where uh water comes down when it's like raining or something it's kind of like created this open spot here it's like a mix of uh pebbles and sand really nice white scent too what an awesome secret beach yeah and great find from carol this ah we got shade as well perfect carol found the perfect beach oh what is that puffer fish the one that blows up here another one over there oh yeah yeah so we had no idea oh man was like this as well like the orange eclipse like the algarve really cool and these pebbles are hot though the best way to end our oman trip yeah this was definitely a nice surprise yep great ending to our little vacation here one week so we had planned on doing more things in oman more videos but like we said because of the heat yeah we were just kind of tired some days we ended up staying in the hotel because we couldn't be bothered uh yeah walking around in the hoop so but maybe if we knew about places like this we could have done more uh beach trips right we knew there was beaches like this little secret beaches that's our thing right we always find a beach people always say that in the in the videos no matter where we go we always find a nice beach somehow so i'm going to close this video out now and that's going to be it here from oh man really enjoyed this country it's like a very relaxed place yeah there hasn't been that many people around a lot quieter than jordan and egypt that we went to before and i had heard travelers say that it's like an underrated country when they visit here they always think that it's underrated because you don't really hear about it that much and yeah like i just said there isn't really that many tourists here but there's a lot of stuff to do in this video we did a nice mixture of different things the historic places forts and yeah the coast and places where you can swim and we did film this over three days by the way you can't do all this in one day you could do it in two days though and in the previous video we explored more of muscat so we went to the grand mosque there and then walked around motra which is where we stayed so yeah everything that we did we enjoyed really nice mix of different things and the next video is going to be from dubai it's going to be our first time there and it's going to be interesting seeing like a futuristic city in the middle east so looking forward to that gonna just spend a few days there not like a week so that'll be the next video if you like this one here just
