Road trip to Gaustatoppen
[Music] so [Music] i'm mark andrew and this is my channel macgyver projects a channel for video editing tech and travel in this video we take a road trip to gaustatoppen a small mountain in norway it's a great example of me learning to film and what to do better next time subscribe join the journey it is 1pm um we're not here yet we're not there yet uh we are five and a half kilometers away we are on top of somewhere so i thought we would at least stop [Music] one of the other reasons for stopping is that the car um was smelling um quite a lot of clutch and uh yeah it needed a rest uh that was what 20 kilometers uphill 20 kilometers up it's about maybe 10 10 it was a long way uphill uh so it was worth just giving it a break and just stopping uh just for five minutes and what a place to stop we are in the middle of the clouds uh which is um stunning yeah so as you can see the cloud behind us the cloud is actually catching us up so uh we need to go quite quickly so let's just hope that everything er works out i don't know if you can see but yeah the edge of the cloud is just coming up the mountain and was creeping up on the car amazing oh look at that for a road snow so the green color that i didn't know what it was it looks like all the rocks have been painted they haven't but i guess it's a luminescent green how cool and it's everywhere it's almost like it rained green moss it's so beautiful and so peaceful oh i found the sign of of where we are which is good so and flesh christian started we are here it's uh nearly three o'clock um this place is a little special [Applause] so here we are in our cabin for the night with an early start tomorrow to climb uh which will be a shame because i don't think we realize just how beautiful uh the cabin and the area is really nice so we have kitchen facilities sitting and eating facilities heating i really don't think we're going to need that um awesome little kind of cove double bed sitting area and that's it it's just a beautiful little cabin uh i think we're gonna enjoy it here for one night [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] what day is it month wednesday is it a question you ask yourself a lot yes feel that [Music] [Applause] [Music] we are having a really nice first day is where are we now where are we going we're going up this way um two don two dal [Applause] in tier i think that's full in norway in norway um but tomorrow we are going to get up very early and we're going to climb the mountain uh gaster i can't pronounce it very well i'm sure i'll get shot for my pronunciation of norwegian words but that's how i'm pronouncing it for now tomorrow i may be better don't feel that bad um i'll go down to the bathroom soon and throw some water on my face and uh and we'll get going [Music] [Music] what a wonderful decision to do this this morning well it's uh seven seven a.m and we're here at the bottom of gauss-joben uh three hours climbed to the top wishes luck [Applause] yesterday when uh we drove up and it was raining [Applause] sofia had a good idea to come up this morning i didn't realize at the time that it was going to be this early but what a good idea it is less people although he's still you know there's people already here and already doing it and not just couples families as well and no complaining from the kids it's a an enthusiasm it's wonderful and uh i was a little concerned that the car wasn't going to make it because yesterday the clutch was quite smelling but i flew up today no problem because it's quite a drive to get here i mean we have snow on the where we're going i don't know if there'll be snow when we get to the top but yeah we'll see and somebody has kindly put stairs not for very long but we have stairs good decision yes so choices huh [Music] yes so behind you [Music] yes so how's it going okay i need some water [Music] [Music] [Applause] i don't know what i expected to be on the on the mountain but i didn't expect it to be this rocky almost like being on a moon or something a rocky moon but if you if you're not sure of your walking skills you definitely need some good legs and ankles to be able to walk over the terrain it is it's non-stop and we've just passed the two kilometer mark and it's 2.7 to go so we're not even halfway there yet and of course we've got to come back down so she put stuff on the dog's feet yeah that's probably socks no no cream type lotion the rock of mount gausta originally formed from sand they got deposited in rivers and later transformed into sandstone when the european and north american continents collided about 100 million years ago the stencils were pushed down two depths of 10 to 50 kilometers within the mountain chain that formed and got metamorphosed to quartzite it's one of the toughest rocks on the earth since then the mountain chain has been worn down by erosion the peak of mount yesterday however projects several hundred meters above the surrounding mountains area because it's much more resistant than the rocks of the other mountains [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] whoa it's not easy to film whilst on uneven ground whilst looking for the stones with the red tees written on them but we're getting there we have three kilometers done 1.7 kilometers
to the top oh which is just dropped into cloud as the cloud has come across the top 1.5 to the top to go i'm guessing that the radio tower at the top is the top [Music] [Music] uh-huh so oh last kilometer to go the terrain hasn't eased up much it's still very rocky the views as we're getting to the top look amazing i could say it's a it's not that it's hard going it's quite nice i think most people could uh do it it's just a nice walk in there as long as you're careful about where you put your feet and choose the right path just about anybody can do it i did wonder if we were going to go to the radio tower on the top and then we started walking away from it oh this path's over there back you have to look out for red letter t's that are written onto the rocks painted onto the rocks every so often which does not mean turn back it just means tourist tourist track so nearly there oh [Applause] so i made it [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] so we made it 10 kilometers uh first 5k to the top we did in two and a half hours um we have no idea what the time is in total yet because my battery on my phone ran out so obviously 10k was too long for it to be recorded when we came this morning there were no cars there it is it was the one we walked to yes it was it was just that it kind of s bended all the way up oh what time is it oh yeah quick find so tired i'm unable to i know the suspense is killing me 7am we started and now it's 12 26 12 26. five and a half hours not too shabby 20 minutes stop and uh at the top yeah interesting so we left we went back so they've two and a half hours back same as uh walking up yeah and i think that's because of all the people [Music] so that was an awesome awesome walk 10 kilometers five and a half hours it was a blindingly brilliant idea to get up at 4 30 in the morning be here for seven it was a fantastic idea [Music] it was a really good walk a little bit sunburnt a little bit tired we now have a four and a half hour drive to our next destination this is for me [Music] is [Music] is [Music] you
