coast of the province of leyte facing the late gulf there are a lot of things to see here in palo verde places very interesting food the people name it that's why i invite everybody to come to palo experience taste see and feel alone and i'm sure when you visit palu you will say i shall return [Music] this is palo plate an important historical town in the philippines where you'll be greeted with historic palo municipal building palo municipal building was the former seat of the provincial government of leyte in 1899 palo for the second time was made a capital of the province during the short-lived philippine republic the ornate wood carvings and window panes made of oyster shells fountain facade function hall for various occasions and overall aesthetics makes it an ideal venue for photoshoots and events just a stone throw away in a municipal hall is a peace monument that symbolizes the reunion for peace between philippines united states australia and japan [Music] guys this landing memorial national park this is the spot where general douglas macarthur returned in the philippines on october 20 1944 during the second world war [Music] located in red beach the macarthur landing memorial national park is a leading tourist destination in the region it was declared a national park on july 12 1977 that immortalizes the historic landing of general douglas macarthur and his team in lady gulf at the start of the campaign to recapture and liberate the philippines from japanese occupation on october 20 1944 [Music] the monument features seven double life-size bronze palo tanwan and tacloban city the project aims to protect the covered areas from the possible occurrence of storm surge as what happened when super typhoon yolanda pummeled leyte and the rest of the region on november 8 2013. just alongside of the road at palo thai embankment is a line of stalls where you can have a quick stop and have a fresh buca juice [Music] paulo lighthouse is a navigational aid and famous landmark in the coastal areas of palo it has an elevated view deck facing the red beach and can be vividly seen in the nearby macarthur park in sibukao island sibuko island is a protected area that has a plantation of mangroves saban wood or sibucao a medicinal plant and other beach forestries the beach reforestation in kogen coastal area is an important green belt that prevents storm surge and threats of tsunami the government center quadrangle has several government agencies and offices within footreach including the famous macarthur park in the central rotunda you'll find the boy scout monument just a few meters away from the rotunda is the korean memorial park it was constructed in 2014 by the south korean military joint support group as a remembrance of the korean filipino solidarity in times of war and disaster palo will be the future side of leyte provincial capital located along the bypass road the building has a neo-classical design architecture [Music] in the government center you'll find almost all regional government offices including the later provincial hospital [Music] palo is home to the only schistosomiasis hospital in the philippines [Music] the cathedral of our lord's transfiguration or the palo metropolitan cathedral was constructed in 1596 by the jesuits who founded palo and used it as their residence in 1768 it was administered by the augustinians and in 1843 by the franciscans on march 25 1938 it was declared as a cathedral when monsignor manuel mascarinas became its first bishop the cathedral was used as a 36th evacuation hospital during the second world war [Music] the archbishop palace is the home of the ecclesiastical government of the archdiocese of palo and it is the official residence of bishop john do [Music] mount laverna is a peaceful place on top of a hill that is conducive for reflection and meditation the convent of the franciscan handmaids of the lord was founded by bishop cyprian or hell in 1979 built in 1887 the la purisima shrine was built by the spaniards in to dispel evil spirits that was believed to have caused many accidents in vents in the area it served as a portal to the top of ginhandan hill guys we are here stairs in hangdan hill cross also known as 522 hill because this hill is 522 feet above sea level [Music] the height rises 522 feet above sea level it is the entrance to the first liberated town of palo in 1944 which also became a famous shrine for catholic pilgrims during holy week where a giant christian cross was erected more than 50 years ago [Music] in honduran hill is an all-in destination where people would go up not only for pilgrimage but also for recreation and wellness there is a chapel view decks and 14 stations of the cross beside the entrance of ginhangdan hill is lapurissima bridge it's the first still bridge built in the province of leyte the discovery of the advancing community of palo dates back to the early 16th century along the bangon river banks where the bridge is located [Music] malo is a town but it feels like an urban city because of its white avenues lined with national and global fast food chains it's also home to some of the best restaurants and food spots in leyte a new local favorite is located right along bangon river walk mini restaurangai is popular because of its affordable yet delicious seafood guys we have here seafood platter uh shrimps tahoe scallops and we have also uh buffalo wings kind of rosetta [Music] seafood [Music] one of the best bulalo in leyte is right here in palo ala is conveniently
