Overnight Snowstorm in a SURVIVAL SHELTER in Northern Wilderness
Well, this is it. This place is in really, really rough shape. There's feces everywhere. the bunks that are in here are completely, like, torn up.
There's no way we're sleeping in here. I'm gonna have to put up a tarp shelter. It's really a shame. So, as you can see, there also used to be an outhouse here, which. has seen better days. Man. Oh, man.
All right, so I think we're going to try to build a little shelter right here. It's kind of an oval shaped, bowled out area. We got some good cover from the trees on every single side. Certainly not what I was hoping for, but, you know, got to do what we got to do. It's.
it's certainly not the, cozy cabin that I was envisioning that we were going to be in tonight. But it is shelter. And, you know, we got everything that we need and quite a few luxuries as well. Plenty food, plenty of water.
It's going to be a good time. I've been looking forward to lunch. So, so much. It was actually quite a lot of work hiking in here today with that sled. and then, of course, having to set up the shelter took it out of me as well.
So this is well-deserved. So this is called a ramen bomb. It's, just your standard ramen noodles, but with mashed potatoes mixed in. I learned this from my buddy who hiked the entire Appalachian Trail. I guess this was a little bit of a hack for them out there. It just makes normal ramen noodles a little bit hardier.
And, packs more of a punch. So good. It's getting a little windy. I moved our heater further into the shelter, and I think that's kind of helping the heat. stick under the tarp a little bit better. Feels good in here.
I just checked the weather forecast, and, I guess rain or snow is supposed to start any minute. it's supposed to continue all night till about, like, 3 or 4:00 am, ramping up in intensity as the night goes on. I got to make sure all of our gear is underneath the tarp, safe and sound. The snow is here. Well, this is a whiskey moment. If I've ever seen one.
it's got some High West rye, which I believe is out of Park City, Utah. I've had it a couple times, and I really, really like it. I don't have the bottle with me here, but, the, branding and the artwork is really cool, too. Oh, yeah. That's good.
It's got a nice, strong taste, but the bite isn't overwhelming. I really like it. Thank you for this food. Keep us safe tonight. Amen. It's just a noodle kind of day.
Made some good old fashioned pasta and added some pepperoni for good measure. So good. Good dog. Good girl.
Well, we're going to be, hanging out in here for the next, couple hours before we go to bed, but I figured we might as well, get nice and cozy in the sleeping bag and on the cot. So. Yeah. As you can see, it's really coming down now. I was able to move Ellie back here, so she's safe and sound, nice and dry.
And in her sleeping bag. We are getting a little bit of blowback into the tarp here, but I'm nice and dry. And if need be, I do have, an emergency bivvy that I can slip into.
should I need some extra protection. But as for now, I'm fine. Ellie’s good. The heater is, roaring.
We're doing okay. Hey, girl. Well, guys. Good morning. I got to tell you. I actually slept really well.
Much better than I do in the cabin. And I think it's because, I'm able to, like, really stretch out. Oh, yeah. another successful camp out.
Well, we're going to start packing out of here very shortly, but I think before we do, we got to make one last trip up to our cabin just to, to mourn the loss. You know. Man, what a shame if this place was in good shape. This would have been so cool last night. One thing that I did notice is that this shelter is not on the new maps for this area. It's on the old ones. And I think it's probably because, it got into such rough shape that, you know, no one's really maintaining it.
It's kind of a bummer because it seems like this is like the stand out shelter with the bunks, the table. It wouldn't be that big of a job to clean this place up and sort of restore it and maybe haul the outhouse out of here. so I may have to reach out to the DNR and see if they'd be cool to be coming back here and doing that, because this is a pretty special place, and I'd love to see it return to its former glory, especially since it's a memorial shelter. All right. Well, you know what time it is.
it's the worst time of the trip. Time to pack up. And. All right. That's going to do it for the video. Thank you so much for coming along. you know, things didn't go as planned, but that's what happened.
Sometimes when you head out into nature and you got to be prepared. I'm so glad that I had all the materials that I needed to put up a shelter and stay warm and have a good time in the process. I want to thank all of you for watching, but give a special shout out to our patrons who donate to this channel.
