OMG! What The Heck Did I Just Order In Korea!? (Bike Touring Korea #9)
so I got to get off the main road here because, for one, I'm out of water two, I'm kind of getting hungry. so I'm going to get off the uh cycling road and go into town a little bit but I might just ask these people right here if they have some drinking water hello can I have some drinking water water thank you wow today is uh very hot very hot yeah very hot today can I pay money? eh? can I pay for it? no no no money for the water so of course the people here are extremely kind started talking to this guy over here and uh you see a lot of small tiny quaint little homes out in the countryside and they always have a nice little garden in front of them they're always well-kept and I just keep thinking like are people live in there? or they just uh you know they're really tiny a lot of the time and this guy over here and I think this one back here they've basically just customed out these train containers you know these train containers and so you see a you see I don't know if you actually see a lot of these but this one's pretty cool and he says he doesn't live here but he just comes out here like once a month and so I guess I I got to catch him on the day he's out here oh cool and so you custom everything? yeah you oh nice got an outdoor little sink kitchen can I see? yeah take my shoes off oh nice simple, your uh your little getaway home? second home? second home oh okay very nice very nice and so you have a beautiful view outside nice little man cave, little, lovely perfect perfect thank you very much thank you thank you I mean not bad not bad looks like he's a cyclist as well he's got his bike right here come out here do some cycling do some gardening just kind of hang out not bad all right thank you very much thank you thank you oh no thank you no thank you more cycling more cycling they offered me some uh souju all right okay looks like we got a long stretch of road ahead of us let's get going let's get going I mean I've already gone 75k today I mean I'm just kind of, I pinned a random place that looks like they have restaurants and things what looks like a city on the map and so kind of heading that way it's another 31k I don't know if I'll make it that far we'll see but just got to find somewhere hopefully get lucky and meet some nice people in a village maybe and have some dinner with some folk we'll see we'll see let's get going welcome to Gangwan State all right I have no no idea what state I'm leaving I guess I could just look at the sign on the other side Gangwan State what state was I in? goodbye Gangwan State there's no welcome to any I don't know there's no welcoming to the other state? oh well welcome to Gangwang everybody I guess I didn't have to go too much further down the road to get some water but to be honest these have been few and far between and I've gone by a couple of these and they just don't work so like outside of uh Busan and like Yangsan and Deagu like everything was pretty reliable but out there in the middle of nowhere I haven't been able to find like water taps or anything and so that's why I went off into that little neighborhood there and asked those guys for water because I didn't think I was going to find this this looks like a nice place to maybe camp for the night there's some people down there chilling but I think I'll carry on it it cools off a little bit in the evening and it's not so hot and luckily there ain't no wind today a nice little town they have a Nice To CU convenience store maybe a couple restaurants over here I like the trees growing over the street right here got a little kitty cat in the convenience store ah punching me too you can try hamburgers an American hot dog I don't know and we're pushing so it looks like I have one small mountain to climb and then I'm done then it's uh downhill from there and flat I should probably wait for that to cool off and get in the river otherwise I'd just be all nasty and sweaty again crossing the bridges maybe one of my favorite things to do because you get beautiful views like this this ain't too bad right here wow so I'm on an island right now you can see right here, it kind of cuts through but it's completely surrounded by water and this ain't too bad so I do have some Ramen some cup Ramen so you know I could uh eat that for dinner let's see, they got a shower here? check this out they have a shower room but it's locked looks like they're just uh just now completing it I guess I don't know maybe it's open during the day but the bathroom is nice even plays music when you go in [Music] what to do what to do Healing Center what is The Healing Center pretty impressive building that's for sure for the middle of a park well I feel good though you know even though I've gone 90k already it feels good outside the wind's not blowing like I feel like I could just cycle like this for a long time just going really slow I don't know maybe I should just continue on I have to say I'm super impressed with rural Korea for the most part uh there were a few parts like after Daegu uh in between Yangsan and Daegu I don't know like the southern part there there were some like okay this is kind of boring there's nothing to see but last couple days has been really nice it's been really nice to be honest some people out here they ain't doing too bad those are some nice homes up there with some beautiful views I'm sure I mean this is just gorgeous what a sunset what a sunset nice calm evening no wind perfect temperature now I just got to find a way to get down into that water there's a wakeboarder, skiers somebody down there having fun ah I think that'll work hopefully this river ain't too bad just feels good to get all the the sweat off you know all right time to go for a ride dry off and uh then hopefully find some food and then call it a night okay one last bridge for you this should be the last one but every time I cross over I'm like, man this is so beautiful, let me turn the camera on if you're getting tired of these shots let me know I'll leave them out but I'm not getting tired of the views that's for sure so this would be another K-water Dam Center places kind of like the one I found earlier when I had that delicious bingsu shaved ice but this one is closed already darn again though just another beautiful park area a nice place for people to come and hang out and chill another park over here with some beautiful art some uh some awnings and things like that check it out, young people, all right this might be it right here here there are lots of people out here with tents camping out and so there's more and more people that I'm seeing too tons of people out here walking on this trail so there's got to be uh some convenience stores or something around here so let's dip into the city a little bit find some food and then come back over here and call it a night all right so let me show you what I'm what I'm looking at for dinner so I got this from the convenience store I think it's those little flour ball thingies I don't know I don't think I cooked it right though I just poured a bunch of boiling water in here let it sit for a while and then I added the the chili sauce I don't think that's how you're supposed to do it probably not but it'll work all righty found my spot for the night I'll show you guys in the morning there's a beautiful river right there uh the campground and everything is like way up there but obviously you can't see it um but yeah time to call it a night it's been a long day over 100k see you guys in the morning all right that's what we're going to do today this morning I woke up and I saw some people wakeboarding out there and I was like you know what that looks like a hell of a lot of fun and I haven't done that in like 20-plus years I think and so walk down here and uh did a little bit of investigating and see how much it is and it's only 28,000 won which is like 20 bucks for like a 15 20 minute session so is that expensive? I don't know but I don't really care I want to get out on the water I want to do something different and uh see if I still got it but first I am going to eat my breakfast got me some ramen that I didn't eat last night from the convenience store but I'm excited I'm excited haven't done this in a long time so that's what we used to do in Texas like that's what you do in the summertime you go to the lakes you do water sports you ski, you snowboard, you snowboard... you wakeboard you uh you get out on jet skis and you just you spend a lot of time on the water in Texas and so it's been a while it's been a while can't wait all right here we go so it's been about 20 years and uh let's see if I still got it let's see if I so how many minutes? about how long uh 15 minutes or 15 yes 15 minutes okay this is my driver all right thank you all right[Music] still got it still got it I think it uh it did help that I snowboarded for so long in Japan still kind of got the feel even though it is very different but yeah I'm kind of used to being on the board like that man my forearms are burning right now oh my gosh my legs okay because I'm using them every day but uh my forearms right now cuz I didn't crash once and I was up the whole time and so and my left foot is kind of uh kind of hurting a little bit not like in a bad way just cuz it's been in that boot you know man that was fun I'm glad I did that that was a good time good morning so finally on my way uh I got some information about this campsite it's not a free one even though I camped for free(in a different area) I think it's free down there you know under that hill right there but up here they're they're numbered off and uh it's 15,000 won per spot up to five people so that ain't too bad up there actually let's go up there have a look okay and up here they have a lot of platforms and places you can camp out as well they have uh a couple cafes looks like some stuff you can do with the kids and I'm not really sure how much those are but uh if it's up to five people for 20,000 that is like $15 or so and so you know I think it's cheaper than the place that I saw at Biwako(Lake Biwa) in Japan where they wanted to charge 2,000 Yen per person I thought that was kind of ridiculous so good deal up here it's uh very clean you got water there's play equipment down there for the kids uh it ain't bad it ain't bad it's pretty nice and then if you want to go do some jet skiing not jet skiing if you want to go do some wakeboarding and water skiing and get on the water you can do that as well but that obviously costs a little bit that cost me 28,000 20 bucks but it was worth it it felt good to be on the water and uh good to know that I still got it but all right it's time to get on the road again and uh get to Seoul hello um I think I got looked it up about 100K to get to Seoul but about 120 or so to uh get to the finish line so I got to finish it, got to finish it so let's head that way I mean look at this this ain't bad you got a nice cafe right here you got a gorilla just chilling you got the Sun Valley Water Park right there that looks pretty cool we going to go by that? nice that looks pretty fun got some water slides we going this way water slides, pretty small but I'm guessing it's just a hotel that has a little water park added on to it I'm sure it's pretty fun for the kids all right let's go this is pretty cool so this is a uh a Greek Monument here dedicated to all the Greek fighters who fought for the South against the North in the Korean War. you of Sparta this is pretty cool look the the Spartan Battalion it has all the names of the the Fallen Soldiers here and the dates 1951 1953 says right here they uh the government sends troops to Korea in June 1950 and they were there for the entire 5 years to return home in honor among them 186 were killed and 610 wounded wow we will remember you forever go together freedom is not free no freedom is not free look at that look at that so I wonder if that's liver...
so I uh I ordered the first thing on the menu up there and the translation is ... sheep domestic, sounji domestic what is... man I think I just ordered some liver I think that is a big piece of liver I'm not a big fan of liver but this is uh what is that that mushroom or is that octopus okay well you ordered it you're going to eat it and so the uh I love it here in Korea that they always serve you sides I mentioned this earlier but this one they just dropped off two big cauldrons of kimchi right here so all righty then, let's dig into some liver it's not liver there's not translation on goolge translator, sounji is sounji ok even better blood, what is Korean sounji? this beef blood soup is spicy and flavorful okay that's what it is it's not liver it's blood even better all right let's do it yes okay I got it she just came by with her phone and said with the translation, it's the blood of the cow awesome I've done the pig's blood in Taiwan now let's do uh let's do beef blood in Korea I guess this is the Lamb not the lamb the sheep lamb sheep whatever definitely a first that's for sure kind of has a, a pig intestine flavor kind of has the texture of it too it looks like the texture is going to be like tofu what I'm expecting pretty similar yeah kind of just breaks up she said it's really spicy but I do it's not too spicy yet I'm sure it's somewhat of an acquired taste it's not bad it's pretty good kind of has that "horumon" in Japanese the uh the pig intestine flavor to it we also got some bean sprouts I love it that it's piping hot this is this is good I like that I dig it a't that bad let's see maybe I can doctor it up a little bit uh should I add any of this? sauce sauce what's good sauce? soy sauce soy sauce okay all right on the side soy sauce but it's a different color soy sauce pickled red pepper okay nice okay and then red red pepper oil all right all right all right and then put the this okay all right dip it in there? all right I think that's how you do it that's how you do it so you take you take all the goodness from the soup is what it sounds like and then you dip it in here and then you eat it okay [Music] definitely adds a kick to it I like that it has that pickle tanginess to it now it's good now it's legit good okay I love it the uh the bowls of soup come just piping hot boiling over let's see if it makes the uh the beef blood any better not my favorite but it's okay I can eat it just like horumon and just like, or pig intestines I'm not going to go out of my way and order it but if it's sitting in front of me I'll eat it you know just in case you're wondering, I did it every last bite all righty for the best beef blood soup in all of Korea come here I have no idea what that says but I'm sure if you're Korean you can figure it out and the nice lady gave me a Coca-Cola for the road how sweet and I haven't had a Coke in a long time it'll be nice
