Mysterious Vietnam Street Food & $2 Cheese Coffee
oh have a look at this there's a pink church here in the middle of Ho Chi Minh City looks quite unique doesn't it but yeah they just told me it's uh closed at the moment and open again in like one hour but uh yeah we can still see the church from outside here right but yeah today I am not here to have a look at church yes my mission is to try more Vietnamese food I got a recommendation that there is a restaurant down this little alley here where I can try something that is very famous and typical here I forgot the name to be honest but we're going to find out so I think if I remember correctly from what I saw on Google Maps it should be down this alley here so let's see if we can cross the streets here we are crossing the streets in Vietnam it's always an adventure I think I figured out the right way to do it the point is just to move and then the bikes will pass for you or will let you pass will stop for you okay that was easy okay so this is the place that's got recommended 46a probably my pronunciation is really off oh it's very hot here I think they have these clay pots here oh okay yeah I think it's some type of Vietnamese pancakes I would like to try the soup here something like this do you have different types of it over there not here no over there he keeps sending me over there okay yeah the problem sometimes here in Vietnam is that not everyone speaks English so I have to figure out my way around hello I would like to try the food over there but they sent me over here oh yeah because they couldn't speak English okay just me yeah just me what how do you say the bank seal okay which one can you recommend I don't know if you want to try the regular that's the the most popular one yeah that's the difference but normally with shrimp and pork I tried the regular one yeah anything else you can recommend something to drink um I'm gonna try something that Vietnamese people like to drink you have anything like like a tea or something oh but that's that's nothing special right maybe I take a juice and lemon lemon juice yeah lemon with soda or just just lemon just lemon please just lemon yeah and no sugar no sugar that's okay well just uh maybe a little bit sugar just a little bit okay okay so indeed and they sent me over because they didn't smoke the guy over there so I think it's gonna look uh like like this what we see over there all the way so the food has arrived and my first impression is it looks way bigger than I was expecting this was actually like a proper decent meal on what the language to be honest but I'm very curious to try it so we are having this here it looks actually kind of oily let me open oh we have some bean sprouts inside I see shrimps inside and some pork Oh it's very hot as well then there's a little soup on the side here and tons of greens I'm not sure if I'm supposed to eat all of them I see the locals over there they didn't finish that as well so yeah that's one thing I noticed in Vietnam already that you always get a lot of Greens on the sides to your to your meals and okay so now it's the question also my juice has arrived by the way without sugar it's actually totally all right just a fresh lime juice okay so now we have Chopsticks here so I will make use of them foreign [Music] and then I roll it with this one yeah you use chopstick to break it ah okay rollable piece okay I will try it thank you so much okay so see I would have never thought that you eat it like this cut it into small pieces and then roll it into the greens okay let me uh see if I can actually do this okay so let's add small pieces and then I'm going to take a leaf [Music] okay maybe like this I think this is gonna be food that makes your hands messy but that's okay I just wash my hands by the way so don't you worry about that and then I can roll it like this and then you dip it in here interesting let me take one more bite I'm gonna try to uh explain us okay so very first week which I like a lot and then you have these fresh kicks and sides that are coming from the yeah of course from the from the lectures here and from the bean sprouts inside and then this sauce is actually a little bit salad I think so you have like a like a fresh cake from the greens from the bean sprouts and then a little sour flavor added to it coming from this one I guess but it's really good actually I'm very surprised because the first impression walls is going to be very oily but actually it's not we need to try more okay maybe okay let me see if I can get a piece where we also have some prawns inside and then also there's the dough actually maybe a control adjustable so this is the outside part which is a very crispy not sweet but the more we go into the middle it gets more fluffy not as crispy anymore let me take another sleep here hold it together with the pork with the French and you can actually make a like small spice bites like this this was a little bit too much because something a little bit too sour now you need to be careful with the amount of dipping sauce like this oh very good for the problem is almost when I eat only food with my hands and then I have to operate the camera but uh I think also this is going to be a decent meal I mean look at the size of it you can easily have this with two or three people I think I think it's a meal that's supposed to be shared and also look at the amount of latches I have here okay let me see if I can actually finish this okay I was not able to manage all of it but almost all of it so it's completely gone almost eat on the fire but that's interesting and then they have these uh big pants here and then they fry it like like a pancake or adding some some oil here I think oh that's why it's so oily look how much meal yeah that's uh what you need to do when you want a new country check out some local meals go to local restaurants get to know the local Cuisine that's always the the best way or one of the best ways to get to know a new country through the food right a lot as well that people riding around with little bikes selling some hello what are you selling here ah what is this it's like plastic this is for for eating oh it looks like just like a lot of plastic but I think it's I think glass envelope actually check it out I think it's a lot of chili as well I can try ah I can try oh thank you come in oh I have no idea what it is oh she adds an egg as well oh this is inside here oh I just want to try it looks like it like plastic oh these these Chopsticks are not really uh easy to eat okay this looks actually like a like a piece of plastic but I think it's maybe glass noodles it's very weird to eat I have to say it's a very thick texture hard to bite very chewy and uh actually the the taste it's actually quite nice I think the taste is coming from the from the red paste oh this is egg oh yeah I don't know what egg tastes like um oh actually the flavor is super nice it's just the texture is very weird it feels almost like you eat a piece of plastic you know but the texture is very nice actually oh thank you so much come on oh maybe I can I can buy something from her oh what is this noodles was uh weird you have to get used to it but that's what I am here for to try new things and we have these maybe I can just uh searching for for a few seconds to try these crisps yeah I think I can okay okay let's uh sit here on a typical Vietnamese table and chair I think it looks very funny is the tall guy like me I'm one meter 90 tall sips on these little Plastics here actually these chairs are kind of thick for Vietnamese share sizes I saw way smaller chefs before okay so uh yeah how do I eat this now maybe let me open this with both hands this is a decent meal my stomach is super full already I thought it's just gonna be a quick snack with some bananas but uh no okay okay so we have the little bananas here which are usually very sweet you find them all over Southeast Asia okay I think it's a little bit sweet home you know we did that sweet so make sure they're not sure what this cream is I was expecting it to be a sweet milky cream like you get in Thailand for example actually it's not really that sweet I think the sweetness is only coming from the bananas and then we have some green pieces here and there's an interesting without vehicle over there always interesting just eating here by the side of the road yeah okay whatever the greens it gets like like a Savory uh flavor to it or they had the same reflected bananas are really good something interesting to try and not bad okay after finishing the cup uh I came to the conclusion that there's actually nothing sweet in there other than the bananas the bananas are yeah these small bananas are usually very sweet but other than that I think the the thick fried cream was more like like a thick soup not really something sweet so yeah the bananas add a sweet kick to it but other than that it was more yeah more like they're like a thick and savory soup but all the olive was very good very good I like it okay so that was another interesting stuff here okay come on thank you thank you yeah that's the thing because I'm always so uh intrigued to try new things so I'm walking around the streets towards my destination and then I end up making stuff there making a stop there and there because yeah that's what I like trying new things in a new country okay I'm actually quite thirsty there's a mini stop here which I guess will be like a little convenience store maybe like a 7-Eleven uh we have water here maybe something cold that's also always interesting to see these little convenience stores in the countries they're always a little bit different from each country to each country because let's see if I can find something that looks refreshing so we have some water here the usual teas I think this is some energy drinks then of course Coca-Cola stuff like that um oh cocoa we sweat oh that reminds me about the Philippines I used to drink this a lot in the Philippines it's like a isotonic refreshing drink let's get it why not didn't have it for a while um anything else that's interesting in here you can get sandwiches here so yeah it is like a like a little 7-eleven here some salads here as well cakes okay yeah I haven't seen a 7-Eleven here and I remember correctly there's no 7-Eleven in Vietnam but you have these stores here instead hello just this one I don't need plastic bags that's okay [Music] I'm fine okay thank you okay bye-bye oh you also got a yeah a little sausages here and meat sticks hot dogs and uh these little buns here okay yeah okay so this was like a Vietnamese 7-Eleven I got my poker with sweat and oh we might have a problem over there I need to pass this bridge on the way to the coffee shop uh how can I pass oh maybe I can go over there yeah I think that will work let's wait for the big vehicle to pass here that looks interesting now I'm good to go so I'm not really sure where in Ho Chi Minh City I am I think this is District no not really one anymore one district one is like the city center the main area the main tourist area as well so either these are the outskirts of this big one or this is already District three I think this is the next one so this might be also District three all completely different one I'm not really sure all right so this is the cafe that was recommended to me buy a local let's have a look hello oh yeah this is what is interesting in Vietnam so they have so many different coffee flavors here peach coffee guava coffee jajuba I'm not sure what it is probably another food um okay let's try something that is very interesting cheese coffee what is cheese coffee yeah but real cheese inside yeah oh that sounds very interesting okay can I have cheese coffee [Music] one and uh with ice or is it hot oh yeah with ice is better okay then one with ice please how much is it 50.
thank you so much okay cheese coffee I never even heard of this before have you heard about cheese coffee before um so yeah obviously I'm very interested uh Keen to try it now so it looks like like a Milky drink actually um so it's almost like like a cafe latte like a cappuccino creamy texture okay what was the price 60 000 dong so that's uh two dollars two dollar cheese coffee in Vietnam let's try it I don't really taste any cheese tastes like like a regular latto cappuccino like a milk coffee creamy milk coffee yeah I have to say it only takes cheese only the cheese is somewhere somewhere hidden maybe on the on the bottom maybe let me stir it a little bit um no where's the cheese I actually wait I think down at the bottom there is a little bit of cheese flavor yeah a little little bit a tiny bit of cheese flavor but it's almost so little that if you would have told me this is a regular cappuccino without any cheese flavor I would have believed you yeah if you believe try hard you can you can taste the cheese a little bit but other than that it's a great coffee I like it if the coffee flavor itself is not that strong it's very milky sweet it's actually very good coffee here what is the name uh meat Cafe Dak Sun Cafe Trung probably my pronunciation of my Vietnamese was very hot very hot all right okay and yeah sitting here on these small chairs right by the side of the road that is how I imagine to be and to have a Vietnamese life sitting here by the side of the road enjoying coffee some snacks watching the traffic going by oh I love it can I put this here okay come on thank you okay I need to go to the immigration office now to solve a little Visa problem that I have just called a motorbike grab Taxi which should be here already here which guy is it maybe this one hello is that you yeah okay okay perfect so yeah these motorbike taxis are super convenient here in Ho Chi Minh City you always get one right away I think I never waited for more than two minutes to get one probably because there are so many bikes here so they have so many motorbike taxis here available so that is uh yeah the easiest and most convenient way to get around the town very affordable like the price I'm paying now is I think 30 000 Dawn for like a 10-50 minute ride so that's like a dollar 30 or something like that and you don't have to worry about the traffic because obviously the motorbikes can pass the traffic very easily very fast so now we're going back over the river so we passed by earlier yeah off to the immigration office where I hopefully uh have some good news because otherwise my Vietnam trip might end sooner than planned but yeah I will give you more details uh once we have arrived at the immigration office oh check this out this is in the middle of the city and they are just huge trees here that looks very beautiful right an unexpected in a big city like this I mean we have around I don't know eight million people living here so this is a huge mega City and then suddenly you have a street with big trees that's very rare to see in big cities like this nice very nice I really like the Vibes here so far oh yes well so many trees everywhere yeah I'm not sure if I said that in one of the previous videos as well I think I did I'm not sure I don't really feel like in a big Mega City here like if you compare to Bangkok you feel really like you're in a huge mega City and here it almost feels like like a small town more small town vibes but it is yeah it is a huge mega City sure if it gets too much you can just take a shortcut over the for the sidewalk and then yeah you become much faster going through the traffic great way to just see something from the city I mean obviously I'm new here so I haven't seen that much of the city yet so taking a motorbike right now and it's yeah like 10 15 minute ride and you actually see some some different areas of the Town streets where you haven't been to yet it's quick it's convenient the wind makes it not really that hot so actually uh yeah nice way to like go to City a little bit noisy with all the bumping here with all the horn using the horn but that's all right that's part of the uh atmosphere here in Vietnam right see all right the immigration office okay come on come on thank you very much bye-bye okay so let me go inside try to solve the problem and then I will tell you what is the problem when I'm done okay so that was a quick I went inside I asked the question I explained the problem that I have and uh yeah I have some bad news now but uh yeah let me explain the situation so as a German I can enter Vietnam without a Visa Visa free and then I get 15 days I can stay in Vietnam for 15 days but yeah my plan was to stay here for around the month so what I did before I flew to Vietnam is to apply for a one month Visa you can apply for it online as a German at least I'm not sure how it is with other passport but as a German I can apply for one month Visa online and then the process is actually quite easy you have to fill out some forms uploads your passport a picture of yourself and you have to pay 25 US dollar I did all of that a few days before I flew to Vietnam and then the website said it can take up to three working days to a process the Visa so I applied for the visa on a Wednesday morning and I flew to Vietnam on a Sunday so that we are free working days in my opinion Wednesday Thursday and Friday that's three full days in my opinion but yeah on Friday evening I still haven't received the Visa so I flew to Vietnam without the Visa and then I tried to explain the situation to the uh office side at the airport maybe let me go inside here it's a little bit more quiet so I try to explain the situation to the our society immigration at the airport but yeah he spoke almost no English and he wasn't really Keen to help me so and to be honest I thought well I think he there's nothing he could have done anyway so I entered Vietnam with just 15 days Visa free that I get as a German and then one day later on Monday morning I actually received an email with my Visa so I do have a one-month Visa now for Vietnam but it's useless because I didn't used it to enter Vietnam so it's not stamped in my passport it's yeah it's a stupid situation I have the Visa with this Visa I would be allowed to stay here for a full month but it's not stand in my passport so it's not valid so that's why I came to the immigration office and I was wondering if they can maybe stamp the Visa into my passport so that I can stay a month but they just explained to me that no they can't do it the only the option I have would be to leave the country so he recommended for example that I can just go to the to the border of Cambodia leave the country return right away and then my Ballot or then the Visa would become valid but yeah I'm not sure if I am Keen to do that so I'm in the situation now that yeah I have the one month Visa but it's not valid I can't use it I paid 25 for nothing but okay that's not a not a big problem yeah the biggest problem is that I wanted to stay here for a month but now I only have 15 days so yeah not sure what I will do either I will just stay for the 15 days so cut my Vietnam trip a little bit shorter than planned well I am actually making a trip to the Border well I will figure that out in the next days and yeah I will let you know in one of the next videos you will see and yeah so yeah kind of an un ideal situation here now but that's life that's part of being a full-time traveler sometimes you
