Let's Tour Kuala Lumpur!
good morning from kuala lumpur today we're going to get out and do a little jalan jalan i just met up with Zul we're going to go eat some good food we're going to eat some breakfast we're going to go check out the batu caves and we're gonna go check out merdeka stadium we got a full day of touristy stuff to look forward to so join us as we explore kuala lumpur on this beautiful sunny day here let's do it so yeah this is the pnb tower it's still under construction but when it's completed it'll be the second tallest building in the world after one of the buildings in dubai and so we came here to check out merdeka stadium and it's right over there you can see the lights of the stadium up there unfortunately they're doing construction all around it so it's closed off but i made a mistake yesterday when i was talking about uh the time when malaysia declared independence i i thought they did it in the dataran merdeka the square merdeka square that i was uh in yesterday but no they did it in this stadium so apologies i'm going to get things wrong from time to time so i think zul here is trying to figure out a way that we can get a better look at a stadium i doubt we'll be able to go inside but we'll see we'll see no no go to another place see if we can get in okay that's too bad that's too bad can't always get your away so here we are we've made it to the naitional war mememorial the national monument here in malaysia so yesterday when i was walking around the city i mentioned how here in malaysia you don't really see a whole lot of statues and monuments commemorating their struggle for independence like you do in indonesia in indonesia you see a statue or you know the date august 17 1945 printed and painted all over the place but here you don't really see that but of course they do have a few and we have come to that place we have come to the uh national war memorial up there you have three dates 1914 to 1918. 1939 and 1945 world war ii 1948 to 1960. what happened during that time well that's what's known here as the anti-british liberation war so like i mentioned earlier in previous videos whenever the japanese surrender the Malaysians here were actually really thrilled to see the british come back because the japanese occupation was just terrible hundreds of thousands of people died situations here were rough and so actually the malaysians were relieved when the british came back that's not to say not everyone was relieved though so from 1948 to 1960 you had the malaysian communist party who was against the british coming back and they didn't want british to have any say on how malaysia moved forward you know how they built their new nation they set out and conducted a lot of guerrilla warfare from what i understand and there were somewhere you know over 5000 casualties from that war and right up here this is a monument that commemorates that wow malaysia might not have a whole lot of statues and monuments to commemorate their struggle but the ones they do have are pretty dang impressive wow look at that look at that dedicated to the heroic fighters in the cause of peace and freedom may the blessings of allah be upon them and then look at the view you have this way of kuala lumpur and so i think on the bottom down here the soldiers are stepping over the japanese soldiers and the communist soldiers only the communists not the japanese okay so maybe lying down down there are the communist soldiers that the fighters are triumphantly you know standing over so yeah one last thing before i go so this was called the anti-british liberation war by the malaysian communists but the british called it the emergency so they had enacted i guess a state of emergency here in malaysia and so it kind of has two names i saw that there were over 450 000 uh british troops here and there were only about 7 000 of the malaysian communist troops and so they were heavily outnumbered from here we are gonna go to i think the batu caves gonna go see some more touristy stuff here in kuala lumpur let's do it let's do it and check that out isn't that impressive so yeah next on today's list we've come to the batu caves and yes the batu caves do you know the name of the statue no i just know it's a big hindu statue the tallest hindu statue in malaysia i think it's the tallest statue in malaysia hindu or not it's the third largest hindu statue in the world but yeah look at that i think this is probably one of malaysia's most iconic images and so it's one of those things you just have to come see you have to come see here in malaysia the majority of people practice islam but there are still a lot of hindus here i think it's the fourth or fifth most practiced religion here in malaysia where are you guys from? India which part though? texas texas so you guys did you guys come all the way to see this or not uh yeah actually we came for our honeymoon, and that's my uncle. oh wow nice to meet you thank you congratulations wow congratulations congratulations so you're coming from houston? where do you live? uh so i'm just a traveler i just kind of travel all over you said you're coming from houston no no from texas west texas are you familiar with there? i live in new jersey wow it's way out there on the east coast really yeah new jersey okay okay wow in fact if you want to eat indian food here yeah uh my uncle's got a very good restaurant here really do you have a an instagram or yeah it's called the bombay palace the bombay palace okay i think i can remember that yeah the bombay palace okay here in kuala lumpur yes yes uh we used to have in houston oh really and uh beverly hills okay okay i'll look for it i'll look for it so Zul how many times have you been here? i mean you're from here probably three four or five times no this is the first time his what? his first time are you kidding me you're from here man. so many people here i'm sure it's one of those things mainly the tourists come here and obviously you know the hindus and people from all over the world coming here but probably not too many locals and they got monkeys uh-oh they got monkeys which stairs huh pick your poison i guess yeah let's just go up the right one maybe i'll go up this one i'll go with this one yeah probably uh want to hold on to the camera pretty tight i don't want any of these monkeys getting the wrong idea oh yeah don't look at them in the eyes right okay oh yeah that monkey just snatched the drink and we'll see if he takes it off yeah rips it apart and goes to town on it yup he knows what's good okay that was quick too he snatched it out real fast that's pretty cool looking and it's a long way down wow and those monkeys are getting into it wow that's pretty cool that's pretty cool so i was reading this as a limestone cave yeah that's all i can tell you about it hundreds of people can leave you right hundreds of people thousands of people could live here i mean i don't know if the video is able to capture it but it is huge it is massive in here wow it is more bigger than this it is Sarawak, uh where? oh sarawak has a bigger cave? okay but is it a hindu place? no okay so i guess there's a bigger cave in satawak again i think it's going to be one of those things where the video just doesn't capture how freaking cool this place is it's one of those things maybe you just have to be here and see with your own eyes kind of deal but it's pretty dang cool or maybe i just need a better camera wow oh my gosh that's incredible what did you think of the uh the cave beautiful beautiful other people know about indian culture a real indian religion you do yeah i agree i think it's definitely one of those places you got to come see if you come here to kuala lumpur just it takes what an hour or two but it's it's well worth it you know do a little stretching because you know you got to climb up 270 something stairs but it's not too bad but yeah it's pretty dang cool a must visit when you're here in malaysia so i just stopped off to get some water but they're selling some popular indian ice cream here it's called kulfi and this is homemade yes by him? yep this is some homemade ice cream by this guy and so i'm going to try some some we have strawberry mango milk i'm guessing chocolate yeah i wanna the mango looks good that's it right there oh yeah what kind of spices are in there? what kind of spices no egg? it's delicious something that you have never tried never yeah i mean it's not too mangoey the main... okay that's the original original is just milk smoke so yeah the mango is definitely not overpowering at all so delicious yeah not really sweet at all either he did say he puts sugar in it but apparently not enough huh it's not very sweet at all it's good it's still it's still refreshing so yeah to go see the cave up there i didn't mention you don't have to buy a ticket nothing you just go right in just climb the stairs you go all the way to the back here i guess they have some other attractions that you can go to did he say that cost money yeah five okay only five ringgit which is a dollar so it's not going to break the bank but over here on this side it looks like they have another hindu temple wow a massive eagle i guess that's an eagle and more monkeys be careful the monkeys i wonder if they like the ice cream i already had to ditch the ice cream though the monkeys started surrounding me and i knew what they were after so i just dropped it and one of them took it and ran off so didn't get to finish it but it it was good though it was good one thing's for sure though it is hot and muggy here cindol next on the list for today which one is the best i'm guessing this is the name of the place so this has to be the best i think okay i mean just a regular regular just regular it looks like there's a lot in there this is regular or no the regular i think this one but this picture yeah okay i want the picture oh i guess hold on tight hold on tight uh-oh where's the cart narc at where is the cart narc what are these cars doing out here wow look at that cendol huh it's like warm at the bottom cold on top i'm guessing it's one of those drinks you gotta mix really well before you drink it yeah you gotta mix it right yeah it mix it really well right okay yeah is it a vegetable what's the uh at the bottom? uh it's a palm sugar palm sugar okay so it's gonna be really sweet the red beans which are sweet yeah that's like drinking straight sugar oh wow you have to mix it i'm trying to mix it wow okay i finally figured out how to mix it really well okay that's how it's supposed to taste like everything's fixed up pretty well that's really good still super sweet check it out we've made it to the old railway station it's not in use anymore looks like here there's some stairs that go down into the tunnel it's pretty creepy but zul just asked if it's open if we can go inside and back there at the restaurant they said we could so let's go in and check it out see if we can get a look inside this old creepy looking railway station i think that was built in the early 1900s by the British it's still in use? yes okay it's still in use it's not closed so you can still come here and take the train wow okay i'd love to see what it looks like inside this has to be one of the oldest stations right i'm sorry the oldest okay in here looks super modern but i wonder if if we can just go see the platform without actually having to buy a ticket i think he was reading my mind i think that's what he's gonna do it's not a very used station as you can tell all the shops are shuttered and closed i mean looks like the ticket office or whatever this would be is closed i mean nobody here there's no not even any staff what about this guy this guy work here okay okay i take the card and give to you you just use the card for 30 minutes no no no 30 minutes for free and then uh you can come back wait yeah are you sure okay okay so i guess there there is a way to get in there and just walk around and just see what it looks like on the platform he's gonna go get a card so okay give me two seconds and check it out one of the places you can go to from here is named butterworth i wonder what butterworth looks like oh you can go to the batu caves from here we were just at the batu caves you can go to kl central central, i guess sg is sergeant gadot so zul gave me his card which gives me access to the platform for 30 minutes i will not be here that long but let's have a look at one of kuala lumpur's oldest stations wow look at that feels like harry potter so it looks like a station that doesn't see very much action anymore it's a sunday it's 3 20 and there's hardly anybody here all the shops are closed there's a kiosk over there that's closed up has nothing in it let's see what the toilets look like look at this old sign isn't that cool that's gotta be uh very old the toilets are the most modern thing in this entire place it's like they thought oh let's renovate the train station let's start with the toilets then they finished and they're like well nobody comes here anyways all right so we just came to Wilayah mosque it closes at 4.
it's 3 55 right now i'm hoping at least let me walk up these stairs right here and get a look at the mosque from the outside looking and it looks pretty dang cool you got to take your shoes off here zul let me borrow his saraong so i could cover my legs whenever you visit a place like this a holy place or a mosque yes they're going to let me go up the respectful thing to do is to cover your legs wow wow this place is huge incredible incredible wow this place is huge this place is massive kind of reminds me of that place in guma in japan the big Buddhist temple that sits up in the mountains of mount Haruna it's just one of those huge massive temples that's just super impressive right i mean i'll leave a link to that video you should check that out that place is really cool too wow pretty cool place pretty cool place and so i was talking with zul a little bit about religion here and it's kind of similar to indonesia in a in a sense that on your id cards you have to list what religion that you are practicing and so on his it has islam and just like indonesia i'm sure it's the same religions or similar islam christianity buddhism confucianism hinduism did i already say that also that kind of goes into marriage as well and also here in malaysia just like indonesia i think you can't marry outside of your religion and if you want to marry somebody who is in another religion that then you have to convert and so you know if you're muslim you can't marry a christian without one of you becoming or without one of you converting so i think that's pretty interesting okay and so let the adventure continue i'm not really sure where we're heading from here i think we're going to check out the bridge and then tonight i think we're going to finish it up at the twin towers and so what a day huh we've seen quite a bit and it's not over yet not over yet and here we've made it to the national palace so here in malaysia apparently they still have sultans they still have kings i'm not sure how much political influence they still carry nowadays but looking at where they might call home they still have quite a bit of money this is a nice place this is uh again one of those places that you just go wow that's pretty impressive i mean it's huge look how big it is they still have what looks like the national guard out here on on duty i think i got him to nod and at least recognize my existence just now okay so that is the national palace you can't go inside unfortunately but i guess it's worth seeing wow huge it's massive it's cool and over there in the distance, you can see the kl tower i went there yesterday over there you have the twin towers there you have the pnb tower that's not finished but we you know we were there earlier today it's been a long day we've seen quite a bit we've gone all over Kuala Lumpur it feels like and it's only 4 40. we still got a lot to do still got a lot of time all righty the last stop for today the kuala lumpur twin towers i'm sure you've all seen them but just like everything else we've seen today they're pretty dang impressive man we saw a lot today from the indian breakfast this morning to the batu caves the mosque the national monument i really don't know how i'm gonna break this video up but i'll figure something out it might be a two-part series or two-part video or whatever but it's been one hell of a day and i just want to thank zul for showing me around and taking me to all these places it wouldn't have been possible if you didn't do that for me so i really appreciate it and yeah we're just going to hang out here and you know i really want to see what it looks like at night when it's all lit up i mean it's pretty dang cool it just looks like two rocket ships about to blast off into space, doesn't it? but yeah i'm gonna end the video there thank you for joining us and i hope wherever you are you're doing well and staying safe i'll see you in the next video peace all right i lied video's not over we came to check out one more thing came to check out the chinese finger trap bridge that's what it looks like to me
