IS ICELAND WORTH THE HYPE? THE GOLDEN CIRCLE 2022
hello everyone unfortunately this is going to be the last video from our series here in iceland for those of you that have been watching our videos here you'll know that we've been traveling around the ring road which is pretty much around the entire island and we've been here about 10 days and in the last video we ended it at a place up north called akureri and now we're actually all the way back down uh south in the southern region in a place called flori so we spent two days traveling from there to here but we didn't really do much filming but we did a bit of exploring saw just mainly some little waterfalls we went to one spot that was really cool though i'll probably show it now found a beautiful waterfall and finally found a real natural hot spring so we decided to visit a waterfall and near the waterfall there's actually some natural hot springs and chris is brave enough to go inside i'm not going there but he is actually swimming and we don't have towels or anything but he's a brave guy how is it nice warm yeah well this part is because this is where like the warm water is coming from yeah let me show the bubbles over there yeah the bubbles are coming from here and going to the big pool yeah so that over there is literally boiling hot water you can't even put your hand in it for like a second this part is boiling hot water but if you come like here it's like mixing uh-huh didn't even bring my swimming shots no i'm not naked by the way no no in my underwear yeah it's probably like minus four or minus three here that's why i'm cold and i'm not going in so i did mention in a previous video that in iceland you can find these spots where you get natural ones this is for free as well you don't have to pay obviously in like blue lagoon paid like 90 dollars in me button paid like 45 but this one is for free but there's only like one specific spot here where the boiling water is coming down but it's fine to stay in even in the super cold weather the problem is i didn't bring a towel or anything so yeah it's going to be fun getting out here i'm not getting out you go carol i'll just stay here until summer hmm so in this video we're going to be exploring a place called the golden circle which is actually the most famous circuit here in iceland and that's because it's quite close to the capital reykjavik so yeah usually in like half a day or a day you can do this circuit so our first stop is gonna be the geyser or giza depending which country you're from so apparently it's the second biggest one in the world the biggest one is in the usa steamboat 120 meters this one is going to be around 80 meters still super high so already here you can see all the geothermal activity going on the boiling little pools mud pools loads all the way around kind of like the area that we went to the other day but that one didn't have the the geyser the geyser no it's funny because there's a sign saying that you should not try to put your hands to check the temperature because it's gonna burn your hands yeah i think you can tell that you shouldn't put your hands in these places check it out drones are forbidden so regarding drones pretty much at all the attractions you can't film at all even that place like the diamond beach it said you can't film so in two of the previous videos we arrived at the car park of the place and i already got the drone out from the car and flew it around and then when we started walking around we saw the signs saying you uh you couldn't fly the drone there but by that time i'd already flown it so that was on one of the first waterfalls as well that i got a drone off but that's why i haven't really filmed a lot of stuff with the drone on this trip because yeah you can't do it so this is where the main geyser is and apparently it like uh erupts every five to ten minutes so i guess i'm just gonna have to film it non-stop to capture it waste all my battery that's what everybody else is doing whoa well that only took 20 seconds yeah but it hadn't erupted since we were here so no but it's a very strong uh noise did you capture it yeah i captured it i was filming perfectly so it is pretty frequent we've seen about four so far the one was small and then it was like three big ones and it's pretty much like every four to ten minutes they say so far it seems to have been like every four or five minutes so you don't have to wait that long what's that say over there nature does not care for your money when you throw it into the boiling hot water you're polluting and littering the area if you want to help someone by giving them money please do don't throw it here don't throw it here this pool looks beautiful it's almost like i don't know like snowy crystal icy edges on it like a hole in there as well interesting so we've come to our next stop of the day which is a waterfall called gulpos and we're in the parking lot and check out this vehicle here that's like one of the craziest vehicles that i've ever seen so you can do tours in these things and they obviously take you to spots where it's basically impossible for cars to go we didn't see any that big on in any other areas of the island did we i think it's the biggest tire i've ever seen in my life probably it's like bigger than me yeah go towards it wow it is it's the same size as you wow so this is the first viewing deck that's crazy yeah i think it's the biggest one yeah i think that is the biggest out of all of them it's actually a few right like loads loads of different faults loads of different viewpoints around here as well i think we can also head a bit further down we'll check them all out all right time to do some ice skating whoa kyle doing some ice skating nope from this viewpoint you can get a better view of the lower falls so i think in the summer you can usually walk along the path there below and that would obviously be way better because you're like right next to the waterfall but yeah right now in the winter it's off limits hey no oh like an icebreak yeah but yeah since we have the the jacket it doesn't hurt yeah so we've just come to the souvenir shop at the side of the waterfall i'm just getting a bracelet like i always get in the country's 1690. what do you get in there a keychain yeah around here they always have the clothes made out of the icelandic wolf super thick i love the designs as well i think that's like over a hundred dollars over here they have the socks as well really thick socks should have got a pair of those at the start of the trip 1990. we've now come to a spot called silfra also on the golden circle and we're going to be doing a snorkeling tour here so once again we're gonna do the tour with troll expeditions in a previous video we did the crystal blue ice cave tour with them and that was one of the best experiences and one of the best things that we've seen on this island so on our last day we've decided to do another tour with them which is the snorkeling here at silfra and it's cool because here we get the chance to swim between two tectonic plates so iceland has a big rift going through the middle of it because one side is the north american tectonic plate and the other side is the eurasian tectonic plate and there's a part here where you can yeah swim swim through it so pretty sure it might be the only chance we'll ever have to to do that and that's also why you get all this crazy volcanic activity here on the island because it is on top of these two tectonic plates and the price of the tour is 17 400 per person so we're just in the parking lot now and yeah we're gonna head there to meet them so we're half dressed up right now beneath we had to bring our own thermals and then they gave us this other thermal like overall so now we're putting the other wetsuit yes you should get your nose and your mouth out maybe all right so you can actually breathe like this never looked better carol i look like a fangling okay we've got all our gear now time to head into the ice cold water that's hard life here the penguin yeah cool yeah so as soon as you guys come in and you put your hands in you can feel the water coming into your cloth right yeah it feels a bit cold but like i said you are gonna warm this up so don't worry about this the same is gonna happen to your hood up top here it might feel a bit like a brain freeze so also a bit cold but it's going to go away very quickly all right so what you also feel is your legs being quite tight right it's the water pressure it's compressing your suit and it's moving all the air in your suit up here see sukhi looks like she has huge muscles muscles right big muscles um it's the same for all of us see how much air there is in here um but as soon as we start floating the air is gonna be mostly on your back and it's gonna be a bit more comfortable than it is right now oh this is so cool always remember america is to your right and europe is to your left so up there the cathedral you can see the two tectonic walls drop down to 25 that's very pretty all right into the bright blue once again so uh so at the end they go some nice warm hot chocolate and a chocolate bar yeah to warm up especially since it's raining now is that the tour that we did the other day no i think that's hiking right yeah they also have that glacier hiking they have like ice climbing snorkeling ice caving if we had more time we'd probably do this kayaking around the iceberg that'd be cool so we drew about 10 minutes from where we were in the parking lot parking lot was actually just there and right now we're on top of the north american tectonic plate so how cool is this like this huge edge here is the tectonic plate so this place has this really awesome walkway here look at that yeah first time right next to a tectonic plate with a huge crack down the middle as well so these two tectonic plates are actually drifting apart they're not coming together around two centimeters every year and from what i read that creates like a lot of tension in the earth and around every 10 years they have earthquakes and that's when that tension is released all right so we're warming up for the last time here in iceland going to our final hot spring and this is the oldest man-made hot spring in iceland so this one is called a secret lagoon and it was built in 1891. people have been chilling in hot springs since 1891. yeah that's a good idea cold place yeah check out that picture so this is very different to the other ones that we've shown before this one looks a bit more like natural i guess kind of looks like a farm area around it and we came here yesterday didn't we yeah we decided to come back because we really liked this yeah i guess you just love hot springs now yeah how much was this overall like i think it was like 9 000 but that's because i got a towel and i also got this other beer bali icelandic and you got chardonnay yeah wine yeah wine a lot colder today so it's way more like misty yeah yesterday was kind of sunny yeah it was like this yes it was kind of warm i like this bear though let's go to our spot that we found yesterday back there we found a good spot so there's this old building here me and carol think maybe it's like the changing rooms from the past like the late 1800s or early 1900s and this spot's good because uh yeah there's a slight shallow area so you can sit down yeah this has been one of my favorite parts about iceland going in the hot springs and having a nice cold beer house of the wine good it's a mini one yeah it's just one glass where is it from from the place that we're going next after iceland top secret place then that's the spoiler though it's a place that has wine yeah and it's close to here later on after the hot springs we ended up eating at a restaurant that we ate at yesterday and it was so good that we wanted to eat there again and we ordered the exact same food again so it's an ethiopian restaurant we had never eaten ethiopian food before very rarely see ethiopian restaurants anywhere but yeah the food is absolutely delicious it was called uh mine so if you're going to those hot springs definitely recommend eating there because yeah it's just so tasty kind of like uh spicy reminded us a bit of like indian food didn't it yeah but less spicy yeah less spicy but you kind of like eat with your hands as well yeah yeah it was interesting and very delicious yeah very tasty and this is the end of our trip now we're gonna head to the airport it's about a two-hour drive from here because we're leaving like early in the morning like two or three in the morning so yeah we're gonna make our way there and yeah it's just been absolutely incredible trip so this was like carol's uh dream trip the the trip that you wanted to do the most right yeah so i had very high expectations and i was kind of afraid of not being so good but it was even better than what i was expecting i loved it and i want to come back yeah we were both saying that uh it would have been good if we had two weeks instead of 10 days because some things we did actually skip it would be better to even have longer than two weeks to be honest there's just so many things to do here it's it's crazy that's one of the main things that surprised us about this place because sometimes you go to travel destinations and you might have a few attractions right a few main attractions but as you're driving around iceland there's just so many attractions it's it's just insane and they're all like mind-blowing as well they're like all extraordinary it's not like normal things that you see i think it's also because we've come in the winter as well so everything looks like this like snowy paradise and then you get even more of the contrast right between the snow and like the volcanic stuff the the opposites so yeah it's just some crazy mix that we've never seen anywhere else and yeah i can see why people go crazy about this place we'll definitely come back and we'd like to come in the summer because apparently it's a completely different place like unrecognizable if you come in the summer but we would also want to come in there in the winter again obviously it is very expensive you can't really do iceland on a budget i don't think everything is just expensive a lot of the attractions are free though but just all the other things that you have to pay for uh are quite a lot compared to many countries that we go but yeah it's definitely worth all the money that we've spent for sure so if you like this video just drop a like on the video to support us subscribe to let's see more videos like this one follow us on instagram and we'll see you around you
