all right so Chang has driven me to the next Island over called Gyodong  and so he said there's a market over here and uh should be some good food   and some good music so yeah we're going  to go on a little food tour hopefully I'm hungry nice little town feels very country look at this place hanging up the bottles I guess this is the entrance to the market area got some restaurants with lines I'm sure there's some good food around here uhhuh the sun is out people are baking people got them umbrellas little shrimpies that's good rice cake what is it called in Korean? tteok like Japanese mochi right? like tteok but here in Korea it's tteok North Korean style? really okay so Chang saying there's a lot of North Koreans that live in this area they defected a long time ago maybe that grandfather came from North Korea okay ooh try this later these look interesting yeah we will try okay okay yeah found some bingsu we found the bingsu like a rice cracker yeah rice cracker thank you oh yeah very light crunchy that's good more bingsu ooh okay okay this one this looks good they closed I have not seen... oh they're closed today? what the heck oh my God always always my luck they're closed huh dang it that looks interesting something I've never seen before never tried before wow okay there's an egg in there what are those sunflower seeds yeah sunflower seeds peanuts there the egg okay I'm getting the same thing? no no different different one okay so just eat the egg like this? all right uh how do you say? I mean it's okay it's an egg it's an egg this is what I'm more interested in like the it's very like herbal a lot of spices you can smell it smells like a holiday drink like it's very strong it's very strong the taste is very strong yeah it's good though feels like a holiday drink like spices and herbs and you know got the the sunflower seeds and the maybe walnuts and peanuts this looks interesting looks like a beef broth soup almost with the uh the smallest spoon ever the spoon is not big enough to get enough flavor in there what is this one called? Jujube tea this is tea? kind of tea it's hard to describe it's kind of sweet it's good I like it I like it I like it do you know what the what kind of herb it is? you said Jujube? I don't know know what is jujube I don't know it's kind of cranberry it's good though it's good oh like it's a kind of  berry? okay that's why it's kind of sweet I guess it doesn't look like it would be sweet though so it's also served with a rice cracker now that we just finished they open their doors what's going on you can smell it same one same one same same but different oh so you can get the ice version too okay you're right I think the strangest thing about this ocean right here or sea is that there's no boats no boats nothing out there just a bunch of buoys empty sea empty sea take care thank you for all your help sorry about it it's all right it's all right you you tried your best you tried your best thank you so much one day we will meet again that's right one day we'll meet again so thank thank you thank you for yeah thank you for all your help and I'll see you see you soon all right brother thank you bye all right so this is what we're going to do so after we left the uh Gyoding Island he was like all we're going to go eat some lunch so he pulled up a place he showed me pictures, I was like oh that looks amazing let's go do it and so uh we go to 7-Eleven to pick up my bike and he calls them on the phone and they're fully booked and so he's like all right well let's go try another place and so we just went to that restaurant and uh they're already closed for lunch and so he's got some stuff to do too and so he wasn't even going to be able to  eat lunch with me casue he's got to take care of some family things he's got to go pick up his son and uh do some of that kind of stuff and so he was just going to drop me off and so  he went out of his way to make sure I was uh taken care of and so I think he felt kind of uh defeated at the end there cause he was like man he was trying to find a good place for me to eat and it just didn't work out and so I appreciate his effort and uh this is just down the road this place called Aloha I'm getting kind of hungry kind of my only option but I'm sure they have good food here maybe not Korean but we'll see a nice nice yard nice house hm let's give it a try what a place look at you look at you aren't you tough aren't you a tough one it definitely went all out with the Hawaii theme didn't they? I went with the chicken katsu curry set and it looks pretty damn good M mhm I can always do curry always do curry Indian curry Japanese Curry Nepalese Curry it's all good all right on the road again so I ended up staying there for quite some time I ate the curry and then I took a nap I just passed out in the chair and then I woke up I ate a pizza and then I edited the first video and so I did some work and now I'm headed to meet Chang again and so we're going to go have dinner and so I think he feels kind of bad for what happened at lunch today which you shouldn't but you know it's not his fault but all the places were closed and so he wants to make it up and uh take me to dinner so I will definitely let him we're going to go have some barbecued eel looking forward to that but it feels nice out right now it's nice and cool in the evening got the rice fields a lot of rice fields here on this island a lot of rice reminds me of kind of reminds me of Niigata in Japan with all the rice fields beautiful place and uh that is where I woke up this morning that's where I slept and so here is the Ganghwa Natural History Museum so I'm basically back where I started and uh feels like we went really really far today you know we did we rode my bike quite a bit you know down to the observatory and back and then uh Chang he drove me around but ended up right back where I started huh I must have missed this one last night I'm on the same road I was on when I went out to the campsite but I guess in the dark I didn't see it but we have ourselves another war memorial it looks like it's all in Korean let me bust out the translator real quick all right so we got a couple different sign  posts we got this one over here which talks about South Korea's role during the Vietnam War and how they sent a lot of troops to aid the south during that war and then this one over here talks about the 6.25 surprise attack that started the Korean War when Kim Il Sung attacked and he attacked here on this island so I didn't know that and so this is where they uh they first brought the troops over from North Korea and surprise attacked here on Ganghwa Island and so back here I did a little translation and it looks like these are just the veterans of all the names I don't think it's all the soldiers that died during the attack you know I could be wrong but it just said the veterans from the military service from that day and so it could be I don't know if they are all the names from the people that died I mean but correct me if I'm wrong and then back here we just have a little mural depicting what maybe what it was like during the uh Korean War I mean you read about it and you learn about it it's such a depressing event in human history it is so sad so unnecessary um you know at the end of the day the war just uh kind of permanently separated the two countries you know the north obviously wanted to uh reinstate and reunify the South and the South wanted reunification with the north you know and so the goal for both of them  for both countries was reunification but when the Soviet Union got involved eventually uh the Soviet Union they're the ones who propped up Kim Il Sung he was selected by them to uh to run North  Korea and I don't think they knew what kind of monster they were creating and so yeah um his legacy lives on way past Stalin that's for sure yeah and so the whole idea for both countries was to reunify the country and what ended up happening was just millions and millions of people died and it's such a tragedy it's so sad learning about the Korean War I mean just the unnecessary tragedy that took place and the ones who suffered the most were the people here in Korea you know of course uh 40 how is it how many 40,000 or so US casualties died um I mean from all different countries there was loss of life from the UN forces from all the different countries that supported the South and all the lives that were lost in the north too A lot of them were just casualties, not people who had nothing to do with the war and a lot of them didn't have a choice they were kind of just stuck on either side of the border and um that's where you kind of had to Pledge Your Allegiance so to speak and it's crazy reading how when the north  did advance I mean they went all the way down to Busan I talked about that earlier in an in one of the previous videos and when they were retreating back I was reading how they were drafting and taking young men from South Korea and against their will like kidnapping  them basically and bringing them back to North Korea to enlist them in the Army and so just like that sons and fathers and you know men were just stripped from their from their home separated from their families never to be seen again it's so crazy learning about it it's such a tragedy okay let's get on the road yep and sure enough I rode right by that Monument because there is the uh the nice Nice To CU and the mom it's funny I forgot to mention last night but when I went into that uh convenience store into that Nice to CU it had like a nice home smell to it it didn't smell like a convenience store it just it smelled like got home it was really comforting in a way I don't know how else to explain it but yeah it was it was weird I walked in I was like kind of smells like a house or like a home you know it just it was just different I'm a fan of that one I like that place uh-oh we got a bus broken down looks like maybe I don't know maybe he's maybe the engine's overheating or something he's trying to cool it down all righty we found ourselves in the city here in Ganghwa I like it though it's pretty modest it ain't like  blown up with huge apartment complexes or nothing looks like a nice modes fun old town all right check it out young people towns in Korea still have young people all right so I'm using the Naver map Naver map Naver map for the first time I can't figure it out it's kind of frustrating I can't figure out how to hit start like I told it where I want to go preview, no I don't want to preview it no that's not what I want you know it kind of tells you everything where do you hit 'start' like I've just been following the path the whole way but my phone keeps turning off and it's annoying so how how do you hit start I'll ask Chang later but sharing with you my frustrations right now Chang is making me work for it though making me go uphill getting all sweaty for dinner that's a pretty cool mosaic man watch us get there and they're like oh sorry we're uh we're full or we're sold out or last order is over uh-uh please no all right I got a nice downhill though all right see it keeps turning off on me so frustrating dry me off please dry me off especially my back cause it is soaked now I like this get me off the main road and take me down some country roads this is what I like to see oh but my map turned off already [ __ ] gotta figure that out it is nice out here though speed bump uhhuh I mean everybody said come in September or a or September or October don't come in August well I wouldn't be able to see all the rice in  this condition you know they'd probably already be harvesting it and cutting it and I'll be all right I think I'll be all right look at that Sunset all right these dogs better be chained up speed bump unlike Thailand that was some scary [ __ ] so many dogs all right that's going to be no fun if there uh there nothing but dogs on this road jeez what is going on up here where you from? the US but I cycled from Busan oh which state? Texas Texas yes sir My younger brother is living uh Dallas no way yeah I went to school in Dallas and my cousin lives there I've been to Dallas many times oh I like Dallas Dallas is a good place what does your brother do there? uh Texas professor oh he's a professor? oh cool nice to meet you nice to meet you nice to meet you yeah have a good time, thank you so much okay nice and so he was just saying they farmed the eels just right over there and so guess some clean and good oh is this together yeah yeah okay okay so the restaurant is over here and this is the market some oh that's how it works okay so you buy the meat first okay yeah some uh slithery slimy looking guys okay how's it work? so you buy it from here first yeah and then cook it gotcha that is warm wow okay cool nice that is hot that is hot you just put it right on the grill huh like what is this saying? uh how can how can you uh... like how to grill it yeah yeah okay the meat is done and this is how we're going to end the day with some good bingsu what is this? what is it? this is the traditional one this is the mango yeah mango let's dig in oh oh oh oh the condensed milk that's a good one yeah that's a good one red bean fried fishy uhhuh that's good nice and crunchy nice and sweet I love red bean paste okay guys thanks for watching that's going to do it for today's video peace that's a lot that is a lot wow you know you see weird stuff like this littered all over Japan haven't really come across too many places like this here in Korea yet this is I think the first one that's pretty scary, North Korea wooden box mine and
