Elephants SHUT DOWN Market
Good afternoon guys, and welcome back to another video here in Sri Lanka specifically we're back in Kandy which might be a surprise because the last video you saw we were up at the Sigiriya rock but actually yesterday, we took a van down. We had some Wi-Fi troubles. To be honest with you guys, I was a little stressed because I almost missed my daily upload which I never have since September 8th and so yeah, now we actually just checked into this place called the Grand Kandyan but more importantly, we got the Brit right there Harry. We’ve got king Ali aka go with Ali and we've got a special trick, that's coming here too. Whoa and he's gotta work on that again. Yeah so this is where we checked in yesterday the Grand Kandyan, got some nice staff there. Hello my friends. And yeah now, we're waiting for our guy. He's gonna be pulling up any second.
We’re going to be taking about a one hour and maybe a 20 minute ride over to the elephant sanctuary, don't know too much about it except it's a top thing to do if you're staying in the Kandy area, the greater Kandy area. So we're gonna get our guy here as soon as he gets here, and we'll update you then. Let's go. Oh no energy from the Brit but the other one we got him let's go. Alright, I thought we were getting picked up guys but it seems like Lasantha is not able to figure out how to get up to the Kandy and basically the Kandy in right here. It sits at the top of a mountain and there is a bit of security so my guess is maybe he got stopped and it's easier for us to just cruise on down to him. So we're heading out. Hopefully, we get some good weather guys. As you can see, we're
starting to see the storm clouds coming in hot but that's- yeah, there's a couple drops coming down. Look at the British lad, he's melting. I’ve brought the British weather with me. I think we've dodged most of the traffic in Kandy, would you say you dodged the traffic? Yeah perfect. Thank you my friend. So guys have you ever touched an elephant before? I have not inappropriately.
Alright, well I would hope not. No, I went to I did the same thing in Thailand and it was honestly one of the best experiences I did in Thailand so I’m very excited for it. Oh that's amazing. What about you Ali? I’ve only really seen them in the zoo to be honest with you, so I think this would be a real treat to see them in the sanctuary and their kinda real habitat, they'll be awesome. Yeah for sure. For sure. I’m excited for it. I’ve- I’ve never I don't think I’ve ever touched an elephant, like pet one or anything I’ve never gotten that close to him except same as Ali have maybe seen some at the zoo saw a couple walking in Colombo someone walking down the road on our way up to the Sigiriya rock which you guys might have seen in the last video but other than that, I’ve never actually been that close to him. And I hear if you go to elephant sanctuaries this is what people have told me, they take care of them, they you know like they treat them well and I believe that usually they're rescues. You know they weren't able to survive for whatever
reason in the wild and so yeah, we figured we're gonna go check it out. Obviously, this is all my assumptions because I think when I heard about them maybe it was similar to Harry when I went to Thailand but I never actually saw any while I was in Thailand. So once we get there, we'll get a little history about the place for you guys see some elephants I think we're gonna arrive there at early enough before they go down to kind of bathe in the pond. I guess there's time slots throughout the day where they bring them to like bathe and that's like the best time to go there because then you can kinda like play with the elephants in the water or whatever so hopefully, it'll work out for today guys and we will see you once we get there. Oh and you already know it guys, no surprise there the Brit passed tf out. I’m sorry. Oh my God, we wear him out. Guys, he
finished boot camp weeks ago, and he's still- he's basically still recovering from it. I had to work out this morning and it's just, I’ve gone all the way up and now I’m coming down again. We're gonna have to get a little caffeine to get them going. Let’s go. Hello my friend. Down boy. Alright, guys we're about one hour into the journey now and we have roughly 29 minutes according to the GPS. It's actually a pretty beautiful drive up
though because as we're cruising through these mountains here, we're slowly progressing up the mountain, and you can see some of the peaks in the distance right over here so maybe one of these days, we're gonna have to do a little hiking up here. I’ve actually heard Sri Lanka has some really nice hikes both here just outside of Kandy as well as further down south in Ella. So I guess we did one mini hike in the Sigiriya video but there's a lot more to do. I’m not sure what we're expecting to see once we
get up to the elephant orphanage how big it is or anything but given that it's so far away from the city and it's getting into a rural area, I’d assume there's quite a bit of land. Looks like we gotta take turns here but some of these tuk-tuks don't know how to take turns. It was our turn my friend and you went. You gotta be a road warrior here guys. This one's the king though, the biggest vehicle aka the bus is always the basically the priority or oh yeah, you hear him, he's honking away. He's basically like I’m coming through whether you like it or not and the tuk-tuks they basically just kinda fit through all the tight spaces here. Alright guys, we are arriving into the city
of Pinnawala. And we're cruising just about three minutes away till we're there. When we were first cruising into the city, I didn't have the camera out but there are some markets here so if you're looking to do a little gift shopping, you got that option and just a few minutes away. whoa. There we go and it looks like this is the grand entrance to Pinnawalla. As you can see guys, it's not a good sign here. There was no one at the desk for us to walk in here nowhere to buy tickets nobody's stopping us nobody's around, a lot of nobodies. Hello my friend. Good and you?

So it looks like 4 p.m. heard leaving to the river returning to the river. Oh so we're about to miss them. We missed them, they're gone? Guys the sheet that's set at 4 p.m. is the best time to get here. It's actually the elephants now return at 4 p.m. so what that means is we've got like six minutes, you can see- you can see run with Ali is actually taking off full speed ahead and now we're now, we're sprinting here. Let's go. We’re gonna see those elephants bro, we gotta go into third gear. Third gear bro, full speed ahead. We’re gonna get six minutes with them.

The police move all the people off here and so we didn't get to end up seeing them bathe but at least we'll get to see them walking through the markets here. I heard some of them are dangerous. One of them's name's Mr.
Jaggard. King One step and then we're in the shop. So that's the hat guys, basically the police clear the streets whenever the elephants are walking through very unique for this city. I’ve never been to a market where the police have to clear the street because we have elephants coming through but as you can see. Oh we gotta keep them safe, no injuries today my friend. Alright, as you guys can see here, the whole street has been cleared because elephants are now walking down the road. I repeat elephants are walking down the road.
Wow, there's a lot of them. We have some wow these are huge, look at how nice they look. Hello little one. Hello there, kinda just cruising back such a massive animal. I mean look at this footprints on those things. Oh this one's stopping by for a little water.

Alright, so we can we can stay hidden should we put on one of these hats? Oh they won't know I’m here right. Oh, oh. Guys as you can see, I got a hat on. They’re not gonna know where I am.

know where maybe we'll be back after. We gotta go see the elephants my friend. So you couldn't see them, right. I know we literally witnessed that- witness a fight. Guys we made it at the perfect time where we straight sprinted over and we're able to at least see him walking through a market like what in any country in the world have you ever seen the whole market temporarily shuts down for a pack of elephants you know. That is a one-of-a-kind experience out here in Sri Lanka. So let's cross this street safely. Here we go, go with Ali safely crossed with Ali. I wonder if our bro will let us in here. Alright, I guess we can go back and look at the elephants now inside. By the way it all happened so quickly 3 000 rupees to get in guys. That is about 15 US dollars for entry so not too bad and hopefully, we'll be able to at least like maybe get close enough to them to show you guys once we're inside. Alright, we have made it back. That was about 10 minutes since we were here but a nice little sneak peek and now we are going to head in here. Alright, hello my

Alright, I don't know why everyone's ignoring me. There’s a great talk though.
Alright, so it seems like this elephant over here is just chowing down, having some food under that shed after a nice full day session of bathing. We've got a dog hanging out up there on top of the the mound of dirt. There's not too much instruction as to what we do. Yeah, yeah. I’m not entirely sure I asked like three people and they just ignored me. I was like what's going on? I was like this is the most awkward thing ever. Is it maybe he wasn't a guide
so he was insulted or something, I don't know but let's check this place out. So we just got up to this little platform over here. And it seems like it stretches pretty far across because we had some elephants we just walked past over there, and there's a bunch of seems like areas where they're either being fed where they're hanging out so I guess you kind of walk through. Doesn't seem like
there's that much signage though, so we're kinda just navigating our own way through this place and the only signage I am saying here is don't go beyond this area. So let's put it this way after seeing those elephants fight you don't wanna end up in between one of those altercations. So here we go, we are cruising around so it seems like we've got one daring little soul running through there after it says don't go beyond this area. Hello machan [Bro] And there's some elephants out there hanging out relaxing after the baths. Hello machan [bro]. Alright, alright, guys we took a cruise a little bit further over to this way and it seems like this area is where you can kinda see the elephants eating after they ate. Of course, I bet it's nowhere near as nice as watching them
bathe down in the areas but it seems like they're relaxing hanging out. Oh yeah, here they all are just hanging out. It seems like they can't really go too far though. The way their feet are chained because he's trying to get over there take a little bit of his buddy's lettuce. Oh yeah, see he's almost got it, almost got a little bit further I wish I could help him. That looks tasty. Wow, look at the size of those poops coming out like the size of a softball, huge animals. I will say only being able to see them like right now, it kinda just feels like we're at a zoo. Definitely, I don't
know and they're all kinda chained up by one foot in the front one foot in the back so they can't go too far. To be honest, not exactly what I expected. I thought it was gonna be like maybe they roamed around freely but who knows maybe it's so they don't fight since they were fighting. I don't really know too much about it but it doesn't seem like this guy's too happy about his chains right there. Seems like a nice little one. Yeah, I’m quite surprised they are chained up. I
heard that they are treated very well here. From their reviews, they are treated very well. Obviously, I’m assuming this for their own safety and hours but yeah I guess this one doesn't seem too happy about it. Yeah he doesn't. Yeah, I’m

So they all seem pretty happy right now. They're
going through all the different types of leaves. Some of them are using it to itch themselves. Some of them are just breaking into pieces and chowing down. Oh he's doing a little splice water with that one before chowing on it and then over there, got him chilling and enjoying some delicious leaves right there. Yum, yum, yum. Got a good one. juice we saw over there guys but there was quite a line so let's see what we can find over here. Fresh juice massive sign, that's always a good sign and let's see here. We've got orange juice, lime juice, pineapple juice, mixed fruit juice, melon juice and papaya juice.

Guys literally that was like a zing to now I am fully refreshed and wide awake now. Harry's gonna need this badly because he was- he was kinda fading out a bit now that I’ve had that in me, it's like a rush of vitamins in me, very delicious, thank you so much. We’re calling him pine- pineapple septar and he's done in 15 seconds, So good. Wow, hondai hondai [Good]. Hondai [Good]. Mucho hondai [Good]. Yeah, yeah exactly. He's still in the Colombian mindset. So that's fresh juices right over here guys, delicious and so it comes out to about maybe two dollars per juice just under that depending on the exchange rate you're using. So a very good deal to
all of a sudden feel fully refreshed with some delicious pineapple juice right here near the elephant sanctuary. Oh we have rabbits out here just hanging out right behind the juice shop guys, they're just chilling. You got Mr. Jaggard petting one. I wonder if they're friendly.
They’re quite, they're not afraid of humans though. Let's see if I can touch him. Oh yeah, he's a nice little one nice little rabbit. Oh did he kill a mouse right there.

It's my favorite part about traveling, my favorite experience and so always finishes the day off in a great way when you meet nice locals like them. The boys have been paying for everything recently so I thought it's about time the Brit started paying for something. Let's go. Apparently, they don't wanna be paid.
