Eating My Way Through Taipei (with Kraig Adams)
[Music] thank you [Music] this past month I got to spend about two and a half weeks total in Taiwan I was mainly here to film some hiking videos which are coming out later in the year but outside of that I was really Keen to see Taipei so on my first day out of quarantine I got to meet up with someone that people have been requesting our collab with for literally years 9 30 everything is closed welcome to Asia fine sorry can you say that again the Craig Adams minimal special we've got like five different brands we've got insta360 Joby moment and iPhone very light and quick wow you wanna go stand there so I can set Focus sure jealous of how like free and Nimble you look with just an iPhone the camera is so big and bulky [Music] that's amazing wow at what point is it just a tree though you know I'm getting really into Bonsai Tick Tock recently so this is all very exciting [Music] that is so big oh it comes with pudding as well oh my God for shaved ice oh that's good [Music] these damn YouTubers [Music] and you need a good video they want a vertical video and then you want to tough being a YouTuber it's so different from any kind of shaved ice it's like snow hey it's like powder snow but like like ribbons of it it's so nice yeah that smell isn't it there's no other way oh it's very kind thank you you're welcome I think it's called jojoba jojoba jojoba I've tried this in Singapore many times it tastes like apple flavored air it's the most apple flavored it's the most Airy fruit you'll ever eat what it's Airy hey it's a lot crispier than I thought it would be yeah it's crispy that's not bad yeah styrofoam I'll pair yeah [Music] thank you [Music] it's all right now these dumplings don't have like the soup the soupy broth in it but the mushroom is really like it's really fragrant it's really nice um can I get five more of the first dumplings he's doing it [Music] I'm now in uh it's called Ding Hua Street my pronunciation is probably all off it's kind of like a little shopping area food area there's restaurants and shops selling little snacks and fabric and all kinds of things here it's really cool it's really interesting it seems like a little more old school a little more traditional and there's many smells many many smells a smorgasbord of smells oh [Music] oh good morning no oh my goodness this is crazy blue curacao Cal first with coconut jelly milk foam bamboo charcoal oolong tea with rose I've never seen so much selection from one bubble tea shop oh I'm excited actually this is my third bubble tea since being here because I already ordered two to the quarantine Hotel oh God it's good [Music] oh yeah it's real it's real watermelon kiwi is like more of a granule like shaped ice kind of taste but the watermelon is like very watermelony [Music] so the first night market I ever got to check out was called ningxia night market and there was so many smells just like coming at you from all directions oh wow I think I'm smelling the stinky tofu Maybe sensory overload it's really cool we'll translate and I found one that was called kimchi barbecue roll because I'm assuming it has no meat in it it doesn't look like it's got any meat in it it might be safe [Music] really good oh it's like a little bit spicy a little bit sour because the kimchi the sauce on top is amazing again there's definitely meat in this my bad oh no don't tell the other vegetarians oh boy [Music] day two in Taipei Craig and I decided to venture out of the main city to a place called ho Tong cat Village which was famous for there's already like four cats right here they're just lying on the ground [Music] it was beautiful foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] thank you all right we ordered one pot of tea with two cups and then they just brought out two pots of tea so we have a lot of tea also the most beautiful seat in the whole place I love you as much nicely yeah hmm yeah a bit of an Oaky after birth I'm not gonna like kind of just tastes like hot water it's very light very light and there's a bit of an Oaky after that [Music] [Music] behind the scenes everyone do extra okay okay [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] I've been told that sticky tofu is the Taiwanese special you know when in Rome try anything once all of that yeah okay okay no it's not for me it's not for me it's definitely not as bad as you'd think but the aftertaste tastes like the smell smell it more that you opened it up now I opened my mouth I can taste it on my breath oh like you cut it oh cut it open yeah yeah I have to I have to finish my mouth oh my gosh it's not for me I'm sorry it's not for me I tried it I gave it a go give it a red hot go but it's not for me foreign [Applause] [Music] today I was actually gonna go and do one of the hikes that I'm here to make a video for but um I'm really tired only two days of sightseeing in a row and that is too much for this Millennial I think I'm just getting too old to do like back-to-back sightseeing like walking you know 30 K's in a day kind of thing so I'm just kind of taking it easy today chilling out listening to podcasts walking on the city taking photos I'm gonna stress I'll do the hike tomorrow yeah [Music] so I've just arrived at kind of like an upscale vegetarian Taiwanese restaurant called Yang Shin the menu is absolutely huge like I wish that I was hungrier so that I could order more things because I want to try everything on the menu looks amazing it's all of the Taiwanese and Chinese foods that I've been wanting to try but haven't been able to because it's got meat in it or something so the first thing that I've got is xiaolong Dao I think I'm pronouncing that incorrectly but yeah it looks really good oh it's like we've got a lot of sesame oil it's very fatty quite a subtle flavor but then the soy sauce and the ginger is really good so much holy wow and then next on the menu of things I've always wanted to dry but never been able to it's usually supposed to be duck I don't know if I'm doing this right I've only ever seen it in videos I'll do my best so you get this like crepe thing you put some sauce in it I'm so sorry if I'm doing this wrong we've got some I think this is mushroom but usually this is dark and I don't know what this is but it's going in and then you wrap it up like a little burrito absolutely destroying this one but here we go [Music] that's good so many textures you can tell they definitely cooked the mushroom with like a bit of extra fat to kind of mimic the fattiness of duck it's really good [Music] thank you [Music] [Music] I was just crossing the road right now and I like looked to my left I was like oh it's the it's the big Taipei what I want the building that I walked like a whole like two hours to find I didn't realize it was like right there next to me very big very impressive cool looking towel [Music] another day another bubble tea oh wow I didn't realize this one isn't tea at all it's just like a fruit juice so good so I've actually had this Like Elephant Mountain is the name of it I've had it on my list for a while and I've been meaning to to go and do it but I didn't plan to come here today I just actually kind of stumbled upon it so 18 minute walk to the top should be all right I'm gonna get there before the sun completely sets [Music] thank you [Music] [Music] so after this day I actually rented a car and did a big old road trip all the way down to like almost the very bottom of Taiwan I actually ended up doing so much on that road trip finished my time in Taipei I rented a car and then drove pretty much to the bottom of Taiwan originally I intended to make like a whole video about road tripping around Taiwan and I had all these ideas and everything but then the first day kind of fell through it's like my plans didn't work out and I was just getting so tired and I was still very very much dealing with like the the stress of what I discussed in my previous video that you probably have already seen and it's for that reason that I ended up scrapping the idea of just doing like a whole road trip around a road trip video around Taiwan but on my drive down there I I passed through some of the most beautiful landscapes I'd seen in so long like they had these rice fields that just kept on going for days and and cliffsides and looking into the most beautiful crystal clear blue water it was really really such a diverse beautiful landscape one that I honestly wasn't expecting from Taiwan to be honest but when I got back to Taipei I managed to see the scooter waterfall which I put up on my Instagram you may have already seen it I've wanted to go here for so long and I actually it was actually my third time back at this spot uh it's the first two times like the first time it was a Sunday and the next time it was too late in the afternoon so there weren't very many people here and I think I got it but I think I was here just a fraction too late maybe maybe [Music] and then for the last couple of days I decided to rent a fancy hotel just so that I would have a comfortable place to sit and get as much work done as I possibly could I got to meet up with Jen who has the YouTube channel layers of Jen which was lovely I filmed a video for her channel so you can go check that out if you're interested
