Hypervisor Operating system | Data canter Virtualization | System Administration | Vmware Admin
whatever you know VM web product you talk about everything is a topping on that pza okay so data center virtualization is the pza base you know what you're going to learn over here and then as you you know progress further in your careers you will you know be learning more things and you know different vmw products and those are all like you know toppings on on on top of that okay all right now let me show you that what we are going to basically cover over here okay so basically when you go to Google and when you basically type over here vcp dcv ICM okay this is data center virtualization okay this is what we are basically referring to over here and ICM basically stands for install configure manage now when you will go to VMware portal now this is called broadcom portal you would go over here and then you would see that you know the first thing that they recommend you is to gain the experience and then you can attend one of the trainings over here so the training that we are focusing over here is this one vsphere install configure manage version 8 this is what we are basically targeting over here okay and if you look at the course content of this training I mean you would see it on different sites over here maybe not on this one uh DC V8 install configure manage okay and then you would see a lot of different websites you know talking about or giving you you know um you know what you will be learning so this is basically from the VMware portal so this is what you're going to learn over here now after the broadc acquisition basically broadcom has made a lot of changes all the links that used to work in the past they don't work now okay so that is why I'm basically pointing to a different website to show it to you that this is what the official curriculum is and this is you know what we are basically going to go ahead and learn about this okay so in a nutshell we will be talking about what an ESX V Center how do you you know create the roles you know uh storage networking how do you create the virtual machine clusters how do you do a v motion storage v motion how do you upgrade it so everything and anything you know we are going to talk about the uh data center virtualization platform okay now in VMware um you know there is a generic question that comes up you know because of the changes in the cloud you know people generally ask that should I be learning VMware okay that's a very common question that I get and let me Begin by answering that question okay it's not because that I basically do VMware that's the reason I'm saying you you know I'm telling you that you should be learning VMware VMware is you know uh think about it um is the apple of hypervisors so when you talk about a hypervisor in your on promises environment the best what you can get is VMware when you talk about phones now this can be debatable topic but you know Apple has always been a you know leader in you know when it comes to Innovations okay so think about VMware as the apple of hypervisors okay now there are a lot of studies you know that have that are happening which prove that cloud is expensive okay there is a myth that cloud is not that expensive when you are starting small on the cloud then you might find that you know cloud is very good so for example if you need only five Windows machines or if you need only five Linux servers you would say that you know who should buy an HP server and install and configure you know all those things on that just go to the cloud and you know that's the best for you and you are right when you have a small environment a cloud is the best option for you however when you grow large you know like if I talk about SBI State Bank of India that's a VMware customer now you cannot expect you know State Bank of India that you know to move everything to AWS cloud or to Azure cloud and basically say you know that is how we are going to do I mean that's not possible Right more and more companies are basically coming back to the onr because with time you know the large organizations are realizing that running things on the on premises environment is much more cost effective you have a lot of control as compared to basically running it on the cloud okay and VMware is basically broadcom is basically leading those efforts and making sure that you know people do move to the back to the on-prem okay so on-prem is here to stay on-prem is not going to go away and when you talk about on-prem you need virtual machines because you will not be running physical machines no so you need virtual machines and for virtual machines VMware is there and that is here to stay okay now we spoke about that you know what we're going to cover you know we spoke about that you know yes vmw is important now the question is how are you going to practice you know what I'm going to teach you because what you learn in it it is very important that you practice as well so to practice the environment you need a lab okay now every technology has a different requirement on how many or how much resources you you need to have if you want to practice VMware in your lab the first thing you need is a 64 GB Ram you need a good processor a good i7 or I9 processor I would say and then you need an SSD at least 500 GB if you have these three things then yes you can do a practice of VMware at your home lab if you don't have these three things no problem we will Pro provide you a lab okay so we have a lab in our Institute we will provide you with an nesk ID okay or it can be a team viewer ID it can be some you know tool via which you just connect to the machine you will get all those resources and then you can basically start practicing vmar how to access the lab how to configure the lab this is something that that I will teach you in this course okay so you will know how to configure your lab you will have all the isos you will get everything don't worry about it and then in this lab you can basically practice so if you have Hardware at your side wherein you can do the practice great if you don't no problem we will provide you one okay okay now before we talk about you know or before we start with the training let me also give you a a a quick tour about VMware okay so when you go to vmware.com the site you would see the very first thing over here it is VMware by broadcom okay why by broadcom because VMware was acquired by broadcom broadcom is a huge company they have a you know Capital they have their worth around $350 and something something and they bought VMware in $70 cash they paid $70 billion cash U not $70 $70 billion cash and they basically bought VMware right so now VMware is under the preview of broadcom that is why you see everything VMware by broadcom now okay now when you talk about VMware products you know you would see that VMware is basically can help you with any solution right so for example you could be a Federal customer Financial Healthcare you know retail you could be a bank you could be a government agency anything that you think about VMware can help you any solution you talk about you you talk about Telco you talk about containers you talk about Edge you talk about SD van you talk about desktop virtualization application virtualization you name it the solution that you want and BMW will have an answer for you okay they can help you with AI ml artificial intellig uh I mean ml workloads uh anything you know that you basically think of you know whatever solution that you want to run gpus or whatever it is they have an answer for you if you want to run a Windows 98 machine or if you want to do AI you know think about the comparison a Windows 98 machine or if you want to run an AI workload VM on VMware you can do both the things okay so that is the kind of fli F ability VMware gives you okay Windows 98 might not be supported by Microsoft but if you have the iso and if you want to install it and if you want to work on it VMware will not stop you VMware will say absolutely you can do this and on that same platform if you want to run an artificial or you know a machine learning application you know with a Nvidia high-end graphics on it that is something that you can do as well so that is the kind of range that VMware offers you if you talk about their products okay you see the option on all products so they have close to about 78 products okay and they are into anything and everything you talk about sdn you talk about load balancers you talk about endpoint security you talk about you know setting up AIML Solutions you talk about managing it you talk about Edge migrating the virtual machines software defined networking you know live Dr recovery containers you know whatever you think of VMware has an answer for you okay they would not say no to you that you know they would not say this is something that you cannot achieve on our platform you can absolutely achieve anything and everything on their platform okay so VMware has basically grown leaps and bounces in 2002 22 years back when the company started off they only had basically two products to work with that was the core esxi their hypervisor and then you know to manage it a v Center and that's that's about it however with time everyone has to change so did VMware and they basically now are over here with 80 products okay now VMware has a term that they talk about and that term is basically called okay uh there is a question on the chat that they don't allow us to download the isos yeah that is true I mean broadcom would say that you know you need to have a contract don't worry about it if you create a new account I think they let you download it for you know few days or weeks I don't know and then you know you would have to pay for it in case if you don't have the isos don't worry about it you tell me the iso that you need and we will be able to provide you okay all the isos which are needed for the practicals over here we will provide you all the isos come with a 60-day trial by default VMware gives you a 60-day trial on all the isos so that is something that you're going to get don't worry about it now there is a term that VMware basically talks about and that is called s DDC okay what is stdc it is called a software defined data center this is what they refer to okay now the word over here is software defined okay you have a data center but you are managing it controlling it and doing everything via software this is what the intention of VMware is now when you talk about an environment you are basically looking at these four components CPU memory Network and hard drive okay though then you basically look at different tools you know for you know cuetes or you know van solution monitoring solution you know endpoint security load balances true those are all the different tools available but broadly you are looking at four different things you know CPU memory Network hard drive and then basically all the other tools are basically are there to optimize you know on how you can run your infrastructure so VMware says that you know we have gone ahead and we have and we have virtualized all four components so what they basically say is for CPU and memory we have a hypervisor that can help you for Network we have a software defined networking solution and for storage we have got a software defined storage solution okay and this all these components make up stdc software defined data center okay now VMware has a lot of products no training can teach you all the products at once learning VMware products always think about it it's a journey okay you start off with one product you gain experience and then you basically move to the other product and then you see that you know how that product can help you with it okay what are the benefits of that product and this is how you basically expand your footprint in VMware U I would say ecosystem and then you basically get to know more about the products and then you basically bundle up all those products and create a solution for yourself okay so this is how the journey is so for example I'll give you an you know I'll give you an example that how it is so you start off with a hardware okay and then you basically start running a lot of virtual machines over here okay this is one Hardware that you have think about it you would have thousands of boxes like these okay you could have a thousands of boxes like these and on you know every box you are running a lot of virtual machines now who is going to monitor all these virtual machines you need you know you need a monitoring tool if you have 500,000 machines I mean would you be able to check that you know where the CPU is high or where the memory is high no you would not be able to do so for that you need a monitoring tool you know someone who can do this job automatically incomes Arya okay Arya can basically do the monitoring for you you have so many log files you know you need to put all the log files in one place Arya can do that for you you want a monitoring solution you know who can tell you where the CPU memories are Arya can do that for you you want to know that you know how the vir machines are communicating what is the workflow of the applications you know that this machine goes where I mean the application installed on this machine is talking to which other machine which Port it is working on what it is doing in the background what kind of traffic it is sending how much traffic is it sending all these answers can give you ARA okay now you say that I've got so many virtual machines I want to create a network I want to have you know firewalls I want to have virtual firewalls virtual networks I want to control all these things in terms of networking incomes and assets VM web product that can help you with it in terms of networking okay then you say that you know I've got multiple sites I want to have a load balancer so that you know I can basically effectively manage my application okay incomes a load balancer that can basically help you with it okay you say that I want to bundle all these Solutions together you know there are so many products how do I manage then maintain them it is getting too much for me okay give me one solution that can do everything for me in comes the VCF okay VCF can do everything for you so the point is whatever your ask is VMware has an answer for you I can go on and on about it but you know the point is that you know VMware has an answer for you and they can help you in a lot of ways okay however what we are learning over here is and whatever but I told you these are all the toppings so what you are basically focusing for now is the pza base which is data center virtualization okay all right now before we start talking about that why VMware let me give you a quick background that why I can teach you VMware okay so like I mentioned I started off working in 2010 I worked as system admin okay for close to about 7 years so I have an understanding that what a life of a VMware admin is I did that job for 7 years okay then I became a support engineer okay and I started supporting VMware customers so it was basically um a third party and uh I understand that you know how we support the VMware customers so a customer would call in like you know if you have a VMware subscription and you call a VMware and you say hello VMware help me with this problem so the other guy on the you know on the other side of the phone I I did that job you know for four years I was support engineer for four years so I've seen that you know how things happen so when you call a VMware what is that thought process what are they going to do or how are they going to answer you who is handling the call you know what the escalation Matrix is and blah blah blah so I've done that part as well okay and now basically I do solutioning I do designing for VMware this is what my current job is and I've been doing this for last four years now okay so I've been a system admin I've been a support engineer and now basically designing so I have seen VMware from all the aspects you know I have seen VMware all from 360° angle that I understand that you know if you're coming from a system admin what your thought processes when you call up a support engineer what the thought process is and when you have to design the environment then again what's your thought processes okay so I've been doing you know VMware for a very long time now and I only teach VMware okay if you ask me to teach you windows or Linux or you know cloud or Google or Azure or something no I cannot I only teach VMware because VMware is my bread and butter okay this is what I do all right so now let's jump into talking about why virtualization let's answer the question why do I need a virtualization I mean if you talk about 20 years back okay let's say if we were in the year 2004 then at that point of time you know you had physical service and on one physical server you would install one operating system and then you would have one application on it and things used to work fine you know the data centers and the organizations they all used to function on a physical infrastructure so the question is why do we need virtualization how is it helping us let me answer that question now okay so the first problem that you will have in terms of running a physical infrastructure is about kex which is capital expenditure now what do you mean by kex capex means that for example if you want an operating system like if you walk up to me in the organization you know let's say we are in 2004 you walk up to me um you know in the uh organization and then you say that you know I want 20 Windows machines I have a project which is coming up and I need uh 20 physical machines okay so I need to buy 20 physical servers because to install an operating system of course I need a hardware W where am I going to you know get the hardware someone has to pay for it no who's going to pay for it you're not going to pay it from your monthly salary I'm not going to pay it from my salary it is the it budget I mean it is the company's it budget you know who has to basically fund it and then we're going to get the hardware so end of the day someone has to pay for that hardware and that is the capital expenditure you have to put in a lot of money you know before you can actually start getting the you know value out of it so that is the capital expenditure now let's say that you bought the Hardwares what next the next thing is that you have to maintain that kind of an infrastructure as well okay so there is a you know there's a generic saying in every culture that is you know if you buy a Ferrari that's one thing maintaining a Ferrari is another thing okay you give a lot of money you buy a you buy a Ferrari that's great but the kind of petrol maintenance you know all those things that you will have to put in to make sure that your Ferrari is always up to date and you know it's always brand new that's an additional cost that you have to pay okay so Opex is basically you know talking about you know it is a cost to maintain your infrastructure that is when you buy so many Hardwares you have to pay the data center guy because where are you going to keep all those servers you need a data center you know where all those will servers will be ragged and stacked so so the data center guy is going to basically charge you okay then you talk about the operating system the applications you know all those things and the people who are managing the environment you know so many Hardware you would have so many contracts you know that you have to go for the renewal you know all those things add up so that is what the operational expenditure is you know that you will have to basically go for the other problem that you will have with the physical infrastructure is about utilization okay what do you mean by utilization problem so for example you said that I want a physical machine and I want to install Windows operating system on it that's fine you got the approval we got the HP server and then we ragged and stacked in the data center and then I installed Windows and I basically hand it over to you and I said that you know here you go here here is your Windows server and you say okay my application is going to use it that's fine now you have only installed one application on the server okay which is absolutely right I mean you know one operating system and one application however on that Hardware that you bought you had put in a lot of money okay you had a very good CPU you had a you know huge amount of ram but if you look at it the utilization is very low okay you're only utilizing like 5% 10% 20% of your memory or about your CPU okay so the kind of money that you pay you did not pay only to use 20% of the CPU you did not pay that much of money only to use 30% or 40% of your RAM you basically paid that amount of money that you actually wanted to utilize your Hardware okay so that is what the uh option is over here that you know when it comes to utilization in physical environment you will not be able to utilize the resources completely uh that is another challenge now if your physical machine is not able to utilize all the hardware there is no possibility that you can break up that Hardware or you can basically take out a ram car and put it in a different machine or you can logically break the CPU and put it in a different machine whatever resources you have in a physical environment they stay on that physical environment it is not possible for you to basically share a resources of a physical machine with a different machine right um I'll come to all your questions you know uh what you're saying that you know cloud is r out different companies and you know uh we can do this and we can do that you know we'll talk all about this okay give me some time we'll come to and you know then we'll basically discuss about these things as well so this is the other problem that we have over here which is basically in terms of the utilization you know that we have the next problem that you will have if you are running a complete physical environment will be about life cycle manager now what do you mean mean by life cycle manager so a life cycle manager basically means that if you buy a server okay I'll give you an example let's say that you bought an HP server in 2017 okay fast forward that we are almost in 2025 okay and Microsoft has rolled out a new operating system called 2025 okay now you want to install 2025 operating system or let say Linux has rolled out Linux 10 Red Hat 10 let's say that you if you want to install Red Hat 10 on this machine you know HP and then you call up HP and then you say Hey you know you know what I need the drivers and the firmwares okay HP will say sorry we cannot provide you derss and firm whees for at hat 10 that's not supported okay you would say why because HP will say that your machine is end of life your machine is almost you know close to about 8 years old and uh we cannot provide you you know firmwares and the drivers you basically need to get a new one but what they're saying is that you know throw away the old hardware and get a new hardware and then install Red Hat 10 on it this is what HP is telling you because every Hardware has a shelf life you cannot expect the vendor to keep supporting you with that Hardware that you bought 8 years ago or seven years ago you know for your entire you know the entire life lifespan that's not possible okay so Hardware has a shelf life now your company says okay we want to throw away this hardware and we'll get a new one so it's not like you know when you give this old Hardware you're going to get some money back no that's not going to happen okay when you give the old Hardware you have to give money from your own pocket because you have to make sure that you dispose this Hardware in a proper manner you just cannot keep this Hardware you know near a dust bin and you know hope someone will take it and you know you basically get rid of it no that's not possible in it audit you have to make sure that you dispose the hardware in a proper manner and then you have to basically prove it in the it audit so disposing it with a proper disposal vendor who is ISO certified who basically gave you an email who basically stated that yes I did dispose the Hardwares in a proper manner that basically gives you a plus point in the ID audit right else you will be marked down in the it audit so that is something that is very important okay now if you have thousands of physical boxes remember you're not buying thousand physical boxes on day one right you will be buying those boxes you know in a gradual manner today you have five then after 6 months you might again buy you know 20 30 so that is how a company grows okay now if you have th000 physical boxes at least you know you would have 5% or 4% of the machines who are getting you know end of life who are basically going above 5 years you know you know four or five% machines you would have you know every year okay basically replacing all those machines putting a new server racking stacking the cable installing the operating system application doing the configuration I mean you would love it for the first time but trust me if you have to keep doing this activity you will start you know uh ignoring it this will become monotonous for you okay so in a physical environment if you're running completely these are the challenges that you will run into wherein you know life cycle manager that is you know maintaining a physical Hardware replacing it you know this is another headache you know that you have the other challenge that you will have with a physical environment is about the provisioning time okay so for example you walk up to me and you say that you know I want physic I want 50 Windows servers okay and I want them now how will I give you 50 Windows machines when I have all physical infrastructure I would say that I only have three or four you know spare Hardware available with me I can give you those four Hardwares if you want but rest 45 46 machines we have to place an order HP has to ship me all those physical boxes I have to talk to my data center I have to rack and stack them do the networking electricity you know do everything start paying the data center install the operating system get the connectivity done and then I only I can give you the machines it's not like you know you walk up to me and you say I want 50 machines and I'll say okay here you go that's not possible in a physical environment so provisioning takes time to get 50 machines to rack and stack and all the process that I explained can take you know close to about two weeks it can take three weeks or maybe a month or more than that who knows about it right but this is the time that you will have to wait so provisioning takes a lot of time okay the other problem that you will have is with downtime so let's take an example you have a server and it's Thursday and the hardware goes down you have two power supplies let's say both of them fail you call up HP and you tell HP that you know HP here is my serial number of the hardware all the power supplies are down okay and um I need a replacement HP will say that you know you know what your contract says next business day it's almost 5:00 the business day is over tomorrow being a long weekend you know we are not working on Fridays Saturday Sunday is weekend I'll send you the engineer on Monday so your machine is now down for 3 Days your application is now down for 3 days so that's another problem that you have with you know physical environment and then scalability when I say scalability I mean that like I mentioned if you want um 50 um servers right you have to talk to your data center guy that do they have have permission uh I mean do they have space in the data center to basically rack and stack everything okay so if they say yes then only you can basically put it if they say no then you know you will have to look for an alternative data center wherein you can rack and stack you know 50 ma 50 physical boxes so all those things you know you will have to do okay so now the point is that these are the challenges that you have with a physical environment how can virtualization help you you do not have to buy too many Hardware you know you can buy one hardware and then you can run 20 30 you know virtual machines on it you have less physical machines to take care of the utilization is not a problem because you are running a lot of virtual machines which is basically consuming CPU and memory that you could not do earlier on a physical environment life cycle manager you have fewer Hardware you have fewer machines which are going you know out of U you know shelf life and then you you know you have to replace them again replacing the physical Hardware has no downtime on the virtual machines your virtual machines your infrastructure will continue to work you want 50 Windows machines virtual machines I can give it to you in less than 30 minutes okay so provisioning time is very quick in terms of virtualization if your physical Hardware goes down wait for 5 minutes you know have a coffee in 5 minutes everything all your virtual machines will come online okay scalability not a problem because you are not adding a lot of physical boxes you might need to add two three four physical boxes and then on those four or five physical machines you can run close to about 100 plus you know virtual machines on them so that's the benefit that you get okay so this is why you know companies do not run a physical infrastructure they run a virtual infrastructure so this is the way they can get benefit from okay I'll take a pause and I would like to ask if folks have any questions anything that they would like to talk about please go for it you can unmute yourself yeah and you can ask the questions okay I see some questions over here you know on chat that why should I go with VMware when I can go with hyperv for free with Microsoft sure you can absolutely you can absolutely go for it nobody's stopping you okay but why do people you know why do you think that you know people pay for Apple phone you know of course everyone can get a you know simple phone from Samsung in 10,000 rupees you know they can start using it why do everyone basically goes for an apple you know why do they want to buy an Apple phone which cost you know at least one lakh rupees in INR you know in Indian rupees why do you have to pay you know so much because the kind of features that you get okay not everything that you get for free is something that you would like to go for Okay so you can definitely go with hyperv I'm not saying I'm not demean I'm not you know demeaning hyperv in any way that you know hyperv is bad or you know you should not go for it you I'm I'm absolutely not saying that but all that I'm trying to say is that if you compare the features if you compare you know there's a saying if you compare apples to apples you know then you will understand that vmw is a way ahead okay every company has a monopoly so if you talk about an operating system let's say that you gift a laptop to your mother you know for example that that you give a laptop to your mother for her you know daily needs okay do you think that would you be installing Fedora over here command line and then you will ask your mother uh hey Mommy that you can use the command line Fedora and then you know basically uh you know use the operating system and if you do not have anything you know just use the Yum command and install the package and you know get it over here I mean that's not possible no so you would basically give a Windows 10 or a Windows 11 to your you know uh Mother's laptop you know you would install that operating system you would tell her the basic things that you know here is the icon click on it and this is the way it will come up and you know with time you know she will pick it up and then you know she will start working on it right so when it comes to the client operating systems Microsoft has a monopoly nobody can beat Microsoft over there you know Linux of Adora cannot come up and say that you know we are going to replace all the you know end user laptops with our operating system that's not possible right so every company has a monopoly you know in which way they lead if you talk about VMware and if you talk about on-prem hypervisors okay if you have an your own data center which hypervisor are you likely to run chances are very high that it'll be vmar okay because of the features the capabilities the robustness nness you know that it provides the kind of you know the functionality it provides it'll be hands down VMware you can of course go with hyperv as well you can go with Zen you can go with so many others are there there's something there there's a hypervisor I'm not sure if you have guys heard about it prox MOX you get it for free okay there is a Community Edition from um new tanic that you also get it for fee you know as a hyper wion you can run all these in your environment nobody's stopping you okay um but end of the day would you be running your production applications your Enterprise applications on it that's the question right you can arguably say that you know cubanes is best okay and I can run cubes on it why should I be paying for open shift what is open shift end of the day open shift is also cubes no so I mean why do I have to pay for open gen I mean I I'll just use cubes and I'll be happy you know you know free you know which is available in the market right so tomorrow if you run into issues are you going to ask the community that you know hey Community I have a severity one my environment is down can you help me with it or would you prefer that you know I can pick up a phone call up a support engineer and ask for assistance right so don't look at the things from your individual perspective my humble request to all of you would be you know take a 30,000 ft view okay and then basically look at things look at from the organization's point of view you know what is important for them or how things have to work out think from an SBI point of view you know State Bank of India that basically does you know transactions in coros and you know in billions and millions they do the transactions think from their point of view they cannot be running on you know community help making sure that everything works for them right so if you guys have any other questions uh can feel free to unmute yourself okay I would love to make it interactive you know feel free to post questions or you know unmute yourself and ask the questions okay all right so moving on so we spoke about yeah someone has a question yes yeah uh yeah go for it guys yeah this is hey yeah are you covering that hybrid Concepts also in yes yes I will be covering the hybrid but I would not be able to show you a lab okay but I can explain you that you know what hybrid is how VMware can help you in hybrid you know all those things I can talk about no concern I have been working on VMware hybrid environment since the day it was born so VMware did hybrid for the very first time on vmc on AWS okay I'm not sure if you guys have heard about this but they this this they did this you know uh for the very first time in 2017 I have been associated with this product right from day one not even you know before it gone G8 before it gone public I worked on this product for six months so VM hybrid journey I can talk for you know days and days I can talk about it right so yeah I can talk all about BMW hybrid Journey no no concerns over that how many days would be yeah go for it no no after you're done sorry okay no problem thank you I just wanted to answer this question that lxmi had over here so I wanted to say that you know we will have the training on Saturday and we will have a training on Sunday 3 hours on Saturday three hours on Sunday and we would have seven weekends okay so total about you know 14 to uh 16 classes you know we would have okay so I hope LMI that answers your question yeah go for it anise I think you had a question uh yeah it's Anish here so uh the only issue I have I can attend Saturdays but I won't be able to attend the Sundays um will I be still able to watch the videos for that day and still pick it up from there absolutely all the classes are recorded okay and once we finish the class you know you will have the recording that you can basically have it with you you can go through the recording if there's anything which is not clear to you you can let me know on WhatsApp you know and I can answer your queries if not you know we can have a session wherein I can answer your queries so no challenges over there okay okay thank you I have one more question so after this training what type of roles can I apply for you can apply for a role VMware admin okay okay if you see on LinkedIn you would have a lot of opportunities wherein they're looking for someone who can manage the VMware admin like your windows admin um or you could have a Linux admin you would have a network administrator a firewall administrator who can basically you know configure manage and keep the lights on you know for the firewall similarly you know you have a VMware admin who can basically you know work on the VMware technology you know uh maintain the infrastructure upgrade it you know all those things you they can do so that is what the opportunity that you will be able to apply for as a VM oh okay thank you no problem okay anik says that you know can I have your contact details sure absolutely so I would request you please reach out to Amit the guy who gave you this uh Zoom URL his phone number if you don't have it I'm writing it over here uh 9546 62806 please reach out to Amit and U he would be able to help you with all the queries apart from VMware okay so if you have anything related to VMware sure you let me know and you know we can talk about it apart from VMware if you have a query that you know when can I get the lab I want the lab to be available at 9:00 p.m. in the night in the morning I want this ISO Amit can basically help you with all those questions over there okay when we are starting off at the batch what will it cost to join the batch you know all those things you know Amit will basically have an answer for you he's the guy I'm not the right person to answer these questions okay so whosoever gave you this Zoom URL you know just reach out to that guy and you know they would be able to help you okay there are other questions on the chat let me take them along other than VMware skills like Windows ser and active directory to be required or VMware admin as an administrator so I would say basically the more you know in today's environment the better for you okay um you cannot be a silo you know your in this DNA age so if you know Windows if you know if you know Linux if you know VMware if you know firewall if you know databases the more you know the better for you this is what I would say but yes there are VMware admins you know role available as well you can check on LinkedIn if not I can basically tell you in the training that how to basically you know look for these opportunities on LinkedIn and you know we can basically help you over there as well what will be the average salary for BMW admin if you have more than 5 years of experience any sorry that's a debatable question it depends on where you are u in which part of the country north south because in Bangalore you get paid more in gooda you know in North you get paid more so it depends on you know where you are basically you know um joining um if you work for you know uh an oem they would pay you more if you work for HCL or know service based organizations they they'll pay you less so it's a debatable question I would not like to comment on it um but you know you would get a handsome salary that's for sure if you are okay can I know which organization that you're working for yes I am a freelancer a consultant okay um are we able to pass VM professional certificate after the training no anise I would not recommend you that okay uh why because see do not focus on clearing the certifications okay why because if you go for any interview you will be asked to explain the concept you will be asked to tell you that what will you do in such a scenario Okay so if you do not answer that question that certification that you have basically would be of no use okay because when you do the certification it is basically assumed that you have a good experience and you know about the technology okay just don't go for the certification for now I would say get the experience and with time you know you will you will automatically do the certification so don't worry about it focus on learning the technology once you learn the technology clearing the certification will be you know like a cakewalk don't worry about it if I have two years of experience in desktop engineering can I apply for this role after after completing this course um sure absolutely I started off as a desktop administ I started off as a desktop engineer uh in my career it was like 20 years back I was a desktop engineer as well so yeah I mean definitely you have to grow and desktop engineer it's uh you know stepping ladder and that's a first step on the ladder yeah that's agreed and you know then you learn BMW you would learn so many things in life and sure why not absolutely you can do this you will have a good knowledge you know you have done desktop engineering so you would be able to relate to things you will understand that you know how things work and you know how it will be so this will be good for you this is what I would say yeah Shas you have a question buddy sorry go for it yeah thank you actually are you covering both the L and windows based servers or I need that VMware is platform independent when I explain VMware functionality it is independent of Windows or Linux okay so when I say that I will be running a virtual machine so in this virtual machine you install Windows or Linux it doesn't matter because I am talking about a virtual machine you could run any operating system that you feel like you get the point Shas yes yes yes right so I am talking about the VMware platform not about the operating systems you know you run Linux you run Windows whatever you feel like you run Noel or any other operating system under the sun doesn't matter yeah but in VMware we need to whenever we need to create any windows or Linux Bas systems we need to set up some Network setups also there right for I'll tell you everything so in VMware I will talk about how networking Works in VMware how storage Works how do you upgrade how do you create a virtual machine so all those topics that I was explaining earlier so yeah I will basically talk about all these things okay so I am teaching you VMware I'm not here to teach you windows or Linux you get the point yes yes got so I would help you with all those how does a virtual machine communicates what is the packet flow how do you get the storage how do you add the additional hard drive you know all those things I will be covering all of those no challenges can you show me that a course again the course content yes sure I will basically put it on the chat okay so here it is you can have a look at it I mean unfortunately I do not have a direct link for the uh uh broadcom that I can share with you but you know here is a third party link but this is good enough ultimately I I just want to show you the course content okay so here is the course content you can have a look at it okay um okay will it my Linux yeah yeah just give me a minute let me answer a few question few queries on the chat and then I'll basically come to you okay just give me a minute buddy just give me a minute thank you so will it help in my Linux career absolutely you know you can run Linux operating systems on VMware this will definitely help you I'm working as VMware admin should I continue this or switch to Cloud devops role for career progression any suggestions every uh technology you know pays you it's not like you know only only devops is something that will pay you or Cloud you know will pay you with time you will need to know about Cloud VMware if not everything in devops but an overview of devops will be good so please understand that as you grow and as your salary package goes you need to know you know a lot of the different things you just cannot rely on one thing okay when you start doing the architecture when you start doing the solutioning so all those things are there so yeah I mean you can continue with any role bu it doesn't matter end of the day you know you will become if you stay in the technical field you will basically become a solution architect or a design architect and you know then you will have to basically learn a lot of different Technologies okay so learn anything and everything that is what I would say whatever you can get your hands on if I want to become a server admin um which skills uh most be uh I should know So when you say a server admin buddy you have to understand that being a system administrator can only get you certain amount of money in life okay you cannot expect someone paying you one CR rupees you know just to be a system admin that's not going to happen every role has a limited budget you know that you can maximum get so for example you know in India I'm not sure if folks are there abroad but in India you have a concept of Dom domestic help you know you have folks who come in your house and they help you with cleaning of utensils and you know helping with your daily household needs now every domestic help has an certain budget know you cannot expect a a domestic help to be work to be getting you know two or three lakhs I mean of course if you're working for an Amani that's a different story but you know every role has a certain budget you know that you can get in life so my point is if you are a some admin you will be stuck in a specific it budget and you know you would not be able to cross that threshold to cross that threshold you will have to change right so for now yes it's a good thing you know you can start off with a system admin absolutely but with time you will have to switch so to answer your question buddy yes you can go for it you can learn Linux Windows networking VMware you know all those things whatever you can get your hands on like I mentioned it's all good okay um yes you can get practice Labs 24 into 7 no problem okay let us know uh and we will basically switch on the lab so I mean if if no one is using the lab you know end of the day we have to also pay electricity bills so we power down the machines if nobody's using it but you if you know it if you need it sure why not we'll switch on the lab and you can access it okay is this course you know we are able to learn High availability Disaster Recovery Services higher availability yes Dr and concept you know how Dr Works in concept we we will be talking about it because there was a different VMware product but that basically helps you with the Dr but in theory I can explain you high availability yes we will be doing everything okay um please confirm skills is important or degree uh see I have always been a you know a below average student so I should not be the one who should be commenting on degree you know I could barely complete my college you know this graduation I could so I mean don't worry about you know uh give me a minute buddy give me a minute so do not worry about degree you know there are few give me a minute buddy just give me a b okay so there are companies U you know that will focus on degrees a lot like for example enosis enforces will say that you know how much did you get in 10th how much did you get in 12th though they will make you work on VMware that you did not study in 12th you you do not study in 12th but you know they have this logic I don't know for some reason that how much did you get in 10th I mean if I did not understand physics or chemistry in 10th I mean I mean that's okay but yeah see so yeah this is a different topic don't worry about you know about it okay all right um I am an itl having aure admin yeah so this is good I mean whatever you can get your hands on so in VMware or in any organization itl is very important you know any change what is the roll back plan you know all those things you have to know so be it any technology that you work call so itl is a good framework to know and if you're certified if you have all those things that's perfectly well it will uh go for you uh my name is web yeah so that's my name can you please give me now that I'm working as a Linux admin past three years yeah yeah that's pretty fine ruffy so if you're working as a Linux admin uh this would help you a lot okay this would help you a lot because end of the day esxi is based on Linux right so it will be helpful for you you will be able to understand the command line quickly though we don't have to do things from the command line but yes everything has a command line so for RI for you it will be an ad added an added Advantage I would say okay what is the course fee uh for this course uh please reach out to Amit like I mentioned any non-technical you know VMware conversation I'm not the right person to answer that question please reach out to Amit and Amit can help you yeah hey buddy thank you uh for being so patient yeah go for it for your question okay thanks thanks for that I just have two question I think one of it was asked earlier which is the availability part of it so the second part of the question is uh for instance you want to go for VW and you know you have a um V Center on the on the V Center you you have different VM and you put onative on some of the VM is it is it is it free flow like that or you have to go with their product that has to do with kuber Native or you can decided to install kuber native on this VM and run whatever you want to run right so basically what would basically happen over here is you will have a physical box let's say that you have an HP server right now what you technically do is earlier on this HP server you would install a Windows operating system or a Linux operating system but now you would go ahead and install an esxi so esxi gets installed on the HP server directly okay and then what you will do is you will create virtual machines over here this is what you will basically do okay now in this virtual machine if you want to install kubernetes if you want to install Windows Linux Fedora any operating system that you feel like sure you can absolutely do it no concerns over here okay but you me you mentioned earlier that they have a particular product that supports kuber native correct so that product is called tanu okay so that is a different product altoe with tanu on an physical machine you can run a virtual machine and you can run a container as well you can run a pod as well so tanzu is that product which can do that for you I don't teach tanu okay so on this course we will not be covering tanu okay does that answer your question yeah thank you that answer okay the other part of it is that okay if you intend to for the availability part of it if you intend to connect to another another site maybe another virtual data center that is not within the same country uh are we going to be seeing the the feasibility here I can explain you in concept on how this will work I can uh I can you know explain you how this will be um so that's that's pretty okay I mean that's very simple setup to do so how this will be how do you set up a Dr I can explain all those functionalities to you no consense okay and you will understand on how it works anyone else has any questions thank you you know for asking all these questions uh it's great you know that you ask so many questions and you know you get your doubts clarified this is end of the day what the trading is all about it's not about me you know keep blabbering about things it's about me you know helping you you helping you know all of us helping one another to grow that is what it is all about so sha says what is the difference between container and virtual machines so a virtual machine is basically you know a virtualized operating system so you you basically take a logical object and then you install Windows on it so for example you have a physical server okay and you install Windows over here here I can create a logical object called a vir virtual machine and then here I can install Windows okay so it basically it's the same way that you're installing the windows but you know you're installing it in different location I'll show that to you in the training and container is basically you know you have one operating system Linux and then here you are running multiple different applications on it they basically use the same binary of the operating system so that you know they can run multiple U applications on it so that is what container is okay container is basically more focused on the application side of things and operating system is and virtual machines are basically focused on the complete operating system and then you can install application also on top of it okay yes you can migrate everything uh to VMware without any downtime or with with very minimal downtime you can absolutely do it okay um what are the minimum skills to learn VMware the minimum skills that you need to learn VMware is I would say a basic basic knowledge of the operating system a basic knowledge what an IP address or of the networking a basic knowledge of the routing of the component you know what a switch or a router is and I think that should be more than enough a basic knowledge of the environment on how it is um so that should be more than enough for me okay any other questions anyone has thank you for asking all those questions that actually helps me a lot containers run on top of a VM it's up to your wish if you want to you can do that if you want to run natively on the hypervisor you can even do that all the options are available right so whatever you feel like you can absolutely do that now let's get back to the trading okay and let's understand that you know um so we spoke about the challenges of a physical environment what is the solution the solution over here is called hypervisor okay what is a hypervisor hypervisor can be an operating system or it can be an application it can be either of the things okay it can be an operating system it can be an application and this will basically give you the flexibility that on one physical machine you can now run multiple virtual machines okay so any operating system or any application that can help you in run multiple virtual machines on one Hardware that is what is referred to as hypervisor okay sorry for my horrible writing but this is is hypervisor you get it okay so this is what a hypervisor is basically so any operating system or an application that can do this job for you you would call it as hypervisor now hypervisors are basically of two types there is something called as a type one hypervisor and there is something called as a type two hypervisor now let me explain you what a type one hypervisor is okay let's take an example um Black Friday deals are out okay and very soon you know Christmas is coming new year is coming and you know all these vendors will start giving you um uh you know these discounts you know you can get a d laptop of $100 off or you know something something on off so let's take an example that you bought a d laptop hey anit hey thank you so let's say that you bought a d laptop okay and you got it a at a good discount however Del did not give you an operating system there was no OS on this laptop but you said fine no problem I have the laptop I have the good CPU and a memory U no problem I will install the operating system on my own now let's take an example you have Windows 10 okay you have a license key or let's say that you don't have a license key because you can run Windows 10 without a license key also I mean whenever the license expires it will keep giving you that you know your license is expired but you know you can keep running it it's not like you know you're doing something illegal you know I mean that's okay you can run Windows 10 if you do not have a valid license key so you say okay I don't have a Windows license key I don't have to do anything fancy on my laptop it's just for the browsing I just need it for my basic stuff and I'll be okay with it okay now what you do is you take Windows 10 ISO and you basically burn it on a USB you make your USB bootable okay and then what you do is you connect this USB to your laptop and you install Windows 10 your machine plain and simple you keep hitting enter a couple of times and that's about it Windows 10 is installed now to install the Windows 10 did you have to configure a bootloader did you have to get a third party tool did you have to download something you know something fancy just to install Windows 10 no all that I had to do was make my USB bootable by installing Windows 10 on it I plug it in and I installed Windows 10 on the hard drive on the laptop that's about it why am I able to do this because Windows 10 is a complete operating system to install Windows 10 you don't need anything fancy see because this is a full complete operating system it has all the binaries and libraries and whatever you want to want to call it everything is there in Windows
