Recently, we had a review of the mega cool assembly of RTX 4090 and Ryzen 9 7950X for symbolic 5500 evergreens. Now, together with ASUS, we will offer a slightly cheaper and much more compact version of this assembly, which is very important today. Now let's take a look at the GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop in the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 laptop . As always, you are at GECID.com. And this means that it's time to make tea and take goodies, because there will be no stops! Traditionally, let's first consider what this "manyun" has "under the hood". As mentioned above, here we will find graphics in the form of a god-like GeForce RTX 4090, but a mobile sample.

In general, we have already licked this doll more than once, so we do not want to prolong our time with you. We will note only the important, so to speak, "properties". For example, CUDA cores are only 9,728, which is more than 40 percent less than in the desktop version. Other "main components" have also been proportionally reduced, namely: now there are 304 texture blocks and, accordingly, 304 cores of artificial intelligence, 112 raster "bubbles" and quite a few 76 cores of ray tracing acceleration.

The operating frequencies of the chip in our version are as follows: basic 1640 MHz with the possibility of a boost up to 2040 MHz, and this is all at a TDP of 150 W. However, there is such an interesting feature as the performance mode, which increases the maximum frequency to 2090 MHz at the cost of an additional 25 W of power consumption. Also, please note that the memory here is more energy-efficient GDDR6 and its quantity is also less - only 16 GB. Also, the data bus has become narrower - 256 bits.

Accordingly, we have an information transfer speed of 576 GB/s. The processor here is the new-fashionable Ryzen 9 7945HX, which has as many as 16 cores at a base frequency of 2.5 GHz with the possibility of a boost up to 5.2 GHz.

They work in 32 streams and "eat" only 55 W. It also features integrated Radeon 610M graphics for maximum power efficiency when working away from an outlet. There are also two RAM blocks of 16 GB of the DDR5 standard, which operate at a frequency of 4800 MHz. Not bad, although it could have been faster.

Permanent memory is represented by one Samsung PM9A1 SSD with a volume of 2 TB, with fairly high reading and writing speeds. So that the OS loads instantly and you don't have to wait long for games to start. If you look at the appearance of the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 laptop, everything in it screams that it is GAMING. What catches the eye the most is the translucent strip of built-in RGB lighting on the front of the case and a little on the sides.

It is completely connected with the backlight of the keyboard. Also, the 17.3” QHD display will fully transmit all the juiciness of the picture at a speed of 240 Hz. If in some projects it is not possible to get such a high FPS, then you can ask for help from NVIDIA G-Sync technology to get rid of gaps and increase smoothness. The body itself feels solid, it is made mainly of plastic, which around the keyboard and touchpad has a pleasant-to-the-touch coating, reminiscent of soft-touch. However, there is also metal on the outside of the lid.

The materials are quite branded and easily leave fingerprints on them, which are also clearly visible. You will have to wipe often! The cooling system consists of two fans, four radiators, several heat pipes and a fairly large evaporation chamber. Liquid metal is used as a thermal interface . The fans spin up to 4,600 and 4,900 rpm for the CPU and GPU, respectively, and generate up to 47.7 dBA of noise, which is pretty loud.

This is if we talk about the "Turbo" mode. In the "Productive" mode, working with a laptop is much more comfortable for the ears - up to 3300 and 3700 rpm at up to 39.2 dBA. When idle or performing light tasks, the noise from cooling is almost inaudible - the fans spin around 2200 and 2700 rpm at 27.4 dBA. On the back of the laptop are: 2 USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C, a 2.5-gigabit connector for network connection, and a power connector.

On the left are 2 more USB Gen1 Type-A and a combo audio jack for headphones and microphone. The laptop weighs approximately 3 kg, not including the considerable power supply unit. Modestly, it seems. How much does such a pleasure cost? If you look at the E-Katalog, then depending on the configuration, i.e., how much SSD, how much RAM, which pre- installed OS, it is from UAH 130,000 to over 220,000. By the way, not so long ago new options were added to this price aggregator : sorting by some parameter, for example, weight, battery capacity or number of USB ports; as well as a switch for displaying proposals between tabular and normal, so that everyone views the page in a form convenient for him.

So you can follow the link in the description and choose the optimal ASUS laptop. Before the game tests, let's look at the temperature of the components. In idle time, the temperature of the processor is kept at the level of 55-65°C, while the video card is at 40-50°C. Under load, everything is much

more interesting. The processor, like the desktop versions of Ryzen 7000, immediately hits the temperature limit under load, after which it adjusts its clock frequency and power consumption. Therefore, 95-97°С in "Turbo" and 93°С in "Productivity" mode is normal for everyday or gaming load. However, with a long-term or stressful load, you can see that the cooler does not cope with cooling the processor, and after a while the "virtual" limit becomes real - the system begins to gradually reduce both frequency and power consumption.

In the "Productivity" mode, it is even lower than the declared values for the processor. That's all, now let's not delay and go quickly to watch the game benchmarks. We did almost all the tests in "Turbo" mode and at the resolution corresponding to the laptop display, i.e. 1440p, but there will be additional ones. The pioneer of the selection of toys will be Apex Legends. They did not think for a long time and set all the graphics sliders all the way to the right. And what you can be sure of is the stable full use of all display capabilities, as the average FPS is around 243 k/s.

However, from time to time you can notice very slight twitches. In general, it is very comfortable to play. Next, we will have another masterpiece from "Larians", namely Baldur's Gate 3. We will not celebrate here either, ultra settings should be enough. Of course, we will not see such a sky-high number of FPS as in the previous game, but considering the genre of the project, it plays great. Slight jerks occur here and there, but even 0.1% Low stays at 60 k/s.

And playing this game even with full Ukrainian text localization is a pleasure! We definitely recommend that you appreciate this masterpiece if you haven't played it yet. But in 4K resolution, it will be a little tight, because for unknown reasons the FPS drops very much. But if you fix the vertical synchronization at 60 FPS, then you can play. Or you will have to experiment with the graphics settings - it's up to you. In Battlefield 2042, we didn't bother either - Ultra settings and numo in battle. However, no matter how we turn the graphics sliders, we will have a not very rosy picture: the average frame rate is of course satisfactory - 114 fps, but if you look at the drawdown indicators, you will hardly be satisfied with the result of 30 fps in the 0.1% Low column.

Hmmm, of course you can play, but it can't be called a comfortable gameplay. But already in Varzon we have a completely opposite picture. The graphics are extremely high-quality. And with this configuration of the system, it is very comfortable to play: the video sequence has a pleasant smoothness, although the frame time graph indicates the opposite, it seems that the nuances of monitoring.

No obvious undercuts were observed during the two rinks . Magic, no other way. We look at the neon future through the lens of the mobile RTX 4090 at ultra settings. Without any auxiliary technologies, we have an average of 77 k/s. Despite 34 FPS in the 0.1% Low graph, it is very pleasant to play, twitching

are almost not felt. Now we add all the features in the form of "quality" DLSS, enabled frame generator and Ray Tracing in the most difficult OverDrive mode. With such manipulations, we will get better everything: picture, speed, and better response in control. In general, the video series pleases, and artifacts from the frame generator are almost not noticeable, if you do not look closely. Dead Space was recorded with full ultra settings and rays, but not solar. And the picture is very strange and not pleasant, the average flow of frames exceeds a hundred, but the indicators of drawdowns balance on the mark "what do you miss in the game?".

And the hundred is not so stable, in more difficult locations there are drops below 60 k/s and, in addition, crashes with a DirectX error, the reason for which we did not find. We are waiting for the driver update. In the pursuit of Lilith in Diablo IV, we recommend using the maximum image quality.

We have an excellent frame refresh rate, which in some places almost reaches the threshold of vertical synchronization. Playing under such conditions is very pleasant. However, if you want to visit more action-packed places, you will have to put up with small stutters and lags, otherwise it wouldn't be a game from Blizzard. We launched The Light That Dies and Will Not Die 2 with the highest quality graphics settings and the highest quality ray tracing.

But it's hard to call the action high-quality, although you can play, of course, and the FPS seems to be high, and the picture is juicy. But why torture yourself so much when you can only attract "quality" DLSS and get an increase of up to 40 fps on average, and after it, the indicators of rare events are increased by 31 and 28 FPS. Under such conditions, it is much more pleasant to play, and the picture does not lose much in quality, if at all. We plunged into the wonderful world of Fortnite with "Epic" graphics settings.

If we take into account that the "Nanite" technology is still turned off, it is still difficult to call the video series flawlessly smooth. And the picture looks in places as if the shadows have forgotten to activate. It hurts my eyes. You can turn up the juiciness of the picture at the cost of dropping the FPS almost twice. Of course, it's hard not to notice how the graphics have improved, but whether it's worth sacrificing valuable frames per second in such a game is up to you.

In Forza Horizon 5, with the graphics settings set to extremely high, the first ride experienced some minor stutters. However, soon the situation improved, and the subsequent gameplay was impressive with its comfort. Crazy races and exciting adventures on the road left the impression of great pleasure, even some minor remarks at the start could not shake the general mood. If you want to have fun in the resolution of 2160p, then... you are welcome. Of course, the drop in FPS is significant, but playing is just as comfortable and almost without any jerks.

In God of War, where the graphics settings are focused on the maximum quality, i.e. ultra, the game impresses with its detail. The average frame rate floats around the values of 108-110 fps, but already 0.1% Low was very pleased with the indicator of 60 fps. Of course, in some places you can notice small and short-term staters, but in general, you can play comfortably. When the resolution is increased to Ultra HD, the feeling of fluidity is almost the same, although the frame counter will no longer allow you to show off, but it will be enough to play if you want.

Although it is possible to play in the magical world of Hogwarts Legacy at maximum graphics settings , it is difficult to achieve a pleasant gameplay. Frequent problems with the smoothness of the video sequence create inconvenience, magical adventures are not pleasant enough with drops up to 19 fps. After turning on the frame generator and adding ray tracing, the situation remains similar. Artifacts from the frame generator are almost invisible, but there is a certain delay in control, due to the fact that the base frame rate is half as low.

It is better to leave DLSS off as it can cause to a periodic and quite frequent decrease in the load on the video card, which causes the frame rate to drop to 30-35 fps or even lower. Let's go through NFS Unbound very briefly. You ask why? Because even with ultra settings, there were no problems: both graphically and technically. The game flies in the same way as the cars on the racing track.

In a word, we are satisfied with the result. When playing Remnant 2 on ultra graphics settings with detailed shadows enabled , the video sequence can be a little problematic. Sometimes there may be jerks and short-term undercuts. However, regardless of this, the game offers a pretty good gaming experience.

If you turn off the option of detailed shadows, you can get an increase in performance of about 10-12 frames per second. Thus, whether to activate or not to use this option is up to the player - to whom FPS, to whom graphics. In Resident Evil 4, according to the classics, we already cranked the graphic settings to the maximum along with the magic ray of maximum juiciness. And with such settings, the first minute or a half after loading the game is accompanied by unpleasant stuttering. Characteristic jerks are also observed in certain places, which may be associated with the activation of gaming triggers or scripts. However, in general, you can play with pleasure over time.

But you won't be able to play comfortably in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Even without turning on the beam, the video sequence cannot be called smooth, the picture twitches here and there. Indoors is easier, of course, but this is not a game about caves, but about open, beautiful locations. Next, we decided to use the RT core of the video card for its intended purpose and switch the FSR to balance mode. But the picture is strange, it seems good, but the monitoring reports that the load on the video card has decreased, so FSR has not really made any increase in FPS.

If we turn it off, we will have 50 k/s on average, so think. Let's end with the immortal classic of our tests, namely The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. At maximum graphics settings , occasional slight jerks and light stutters may occur . For impressive graphics and a great atmosphere - a small fee. Small technical nuances do not significantly affect the overall impression of the gameplay. Therefore, in general, the gameplay is more than comfortable.

If you add DLSS to the quality and the maximum level of ray tracing, the game will offer a new level of visual enjoyment. This allows you to create a more voluminous and detailed world at the cost of twitches, which occur more often. Despite this, the overall impression of the game process practically does not deteriorate. Why are we in "Turbo" mode? Because on average, it provides an additional 8-10% of productivity. The result is better, although this is not a huge difference, given the need to put up with higher temperatures and, most importantly, noticeably more noise from the cooling system.

On the other hand, in the "Productivity" mode, playing is more pleasant for the ears, but not for the eyes, because the video sequence does not become so smooth, there are more frequent and intense jerks in games , and even obvious slowdowns or freezes. As for a mobile system, in our opinion, everything is more than excellent. The mobile GeForce RTX 4090 provides the opportunity to play all modern games at maximum settings almost without problems , whether at home, with friends, or even at work. Great, agree! Of course, not all games go exactly like that.

Optimization, or on the contrary, its absence, makes itself felt, and perhaps the drivers of the "new iron" also need to be improved. However, it won't hurt to go through all the gamedev news, look at ray tracing and other innovations. A powerful processor, a sufficient volume of DDR5, and a fast SSD will help you cope with difficult projects , and your eyes will be happy with a high-quality and fast display.

Just such a laptop, as we tested, will cost in a small amount - 170 thousand UAH. You can look at a more down-to-earth version with a less biting price tag, sacrificing either RAM or internal memory. Of course, many will say that for such money I will build a PC, but, friends, you should not forget the cost of mobility. If you are constantly in the 1st place, this is, of course, not just any overpayment, but for someone today's guest will be an ideal option.

That's all we have. Thanks for watching, like and comment on our tests. Double respect for recommending our videos to friends! Before meeting. Everything will be Ukraine!
