The US Foreign Service School of Language Studies rates Italian as 600 hours for a native English speaker and Turkish as 1100 hours for a native English speaker. Neither of you are native English speakers, but it gives you a general idea of the difficulty. Believe me Sadie, if you can learn English with our bizarre spelling, and unusual grammar, you can learn Italian. It is a logical language with beautiful soft vowels and few harsh consonants. Plus, you have the world's best teacher, an intimate partner, now a wife.
